I hope the guys are ready to go tonight. The refs gave us some pretty considerable help and we still barely scraped by ILL, hopefully just chalk it up to IU hangover.
I think we'll come out hungry. We'll need to with our lack of depth. Dawson admitted he took Illinois lightly and Nix sat because he was skipping class. My hope is the team comes out focused and gets Minnesota down early and never lets up.
First half in the barn was a layup/dunk drill for the Gophers. I think we have that stuff straightened out by now.
I unfortunately wasn't able to watch our game at Minny, but wasn't it really close until the last couple minutes?
Minnesota has struggled recently, so they are a sure bet to be on fire tonight.
It was, for a while I was sure MSU would pull it out, but we went cold at the end. great game up to the 5 minute point.
I think MSU ends up winning by ten, but it won't be nearly as easy as a ten point victory would indicate
Payne struggled in that game. His level of play has really increased lately, so I don't expect that to happen again.
Yeah, the way they won was unlike an Izzo team though. Easy basket after easy basket, should look 100x better tonight.
The health of Harris is a huge factor IMO. I assume Trice will not play.
Alright that's what I thought. I think we will be fine tonight, but it'll most likely be a grind out win like usual. Hopefully not as close as the Illinois game but they can shoot the 3 ball really well at times, which is scary.
Hard to imagine anything but a grind it out type win with this team. Especially if no Trice and limited Harris. This team seems like it can hang tough with anyone but struggles to blow anyone out. That's no doubt hurt the development of guys like Byrd and Costello.
If we would have hit our free throws we would have won that game @Minny. We're a different team now.
You're in college. The window of opportunity to drink and do drugs and take advantage of young girls is getting smaller by the day.
I'm not feeling good about this one. Hope I'm wrong.
We're a much better free throw team (and much better all around team) than we were in that game. My only concern is not having Trice available, but I'm thinking a 5 point win is what we should expect.
MSU takes care of business at home. 30-1 the last 2 years someone posted the other day.
How did the refs bail us out against ILL? MSU attacked the rim and was the more aggressive team, ILL reached in and fouled almost every time that happened. The only questionable no call, was Valentine not getting a flagrant or whatever they are called when he was on the ground and elbowed the guy. I know the FT disparity was there, but maybe I just saw a different game.
MSU gets everyone's best shot, they don't get to take nights off. Beating MSU is a huge win for any team in the conference, especially the teams that are near the bubble.
I agree with what many are saying. Turnover/offensive issues seem to be better, Payne playing better, + Nix being sat & a slow start vs Illinois. I think we come out strong and hold on. Valentine needs to have a good game again with Trice likely out and Harris not 100%.
Can't let minny run, they struggle in half court games. Nix and Payne can't get pushed around by Mbakwe again. Will be a grinder for sure.
I believe that Nix and Appling took almost half our shots last game. I think we will have a more diversified attack this time. If we keep Andre Hollins from going off we should win.
I expect the game to go the way two Top 20 teams from the B1G playing each other would usually go. Tough, scrappy, physical and close.
Rematches are always fun, too.
The only thing I know is that Minny will get an early 7 point run in and one of the announcers will say something about them not being intimidated in the Bres. Happens every. damn. game.
MSU got down by 12 points in the first half, then went on a big run and were down by 1 at the half. Trice hit 3 threes during that run to get State back in it. The second half was close until Minny pulled away in the last 2 minutes.
With 5 minutes left in the first half, MSU was down 37-25 and it looked like they were about to get blown out of the building. Like they did against UCONN, Iowa, and Illinois, they fought back and managed to close the deficit to 1 at halftime. It was close for the entire second half and MSU was down 64-63 with 2:30 left. Unfortunately, MSU did not score any points in the last 4 minutes of the game and let things get out of control at the end.
EDIT: Whoops, I guess I should have read this thread before posting. I guess that SWB had it covered.

Yes we were actually leading for most of the 2nd half but we went on a scoring drought at the end. The game was much closer than the score indicated.
And the 1 loss occurred when we were missing a key player. We'll likely be missing one in Trice and Harris is a question mark. If Harris plays and can prove to be effective early, I'll start to feel better.
It's just back spasms. It's not like those flare up all the time under stress or with awkward falls.
I'm thinking Minny gets it done tonight. Would dearly love to be wrong, but to be honest I think we have to rally just to have a chance to win late...
Minny does seem to be in a funk and look nothing like the team we played earlier this year though. Their game @ NU was some pathetic shit and they are never the same outside of the barn so who really freaking knows?

Marriage is like flying with kids, if the flight had 500 connections, never ended, Ted Striker were your pilot and you ate the fish.
