Those assholes bought up the building that houses Krazy Jim's Bimpy Burger!
Like most people know. UofM is by far the largest landholder in Ann Arbor and have been buying up all the properties for years. They forced out a lot of businesses by jacking up the rents so high that they were forced to move. Now they've purchased the house/building where BB is and are going to tear it down and put up something worthless like another university office. Boooooooooo.

Always found that place overrated
Move that shit to Beast Lansing.
Girls are fat too.
Man, I've been to this place once. I loved it. It really had a lot of character to it. It had some pretty cool R Crumb like drawings all over the place.
Too bad because it was pretty cool.

The problem with Ann Arbor are the UM students.
Bob's not worried
Don't post poop!
Move it to a place with decent parking.
This is at least in the top five worst things that UM has ever done.

In the long run, its going to be a good thing for all fans of Blimpy. The parking sucks (as mentioned), the seating/space sucks (as also mentioned) and the service lagged because of space. They'll get a great new set up, and I wouldn't be at all surprise to see fountain soda added, which would of course mean free refills. Maybe even beer since AA isn't a big liquor license Nazi like EL.
The only thing worth liking in Ann Arbor. Just another reason that U of M sucks
The Fleetwood diner?
Also if you've never been to the blue tractor, you did it wrong.

Fleetwood is in Lansing too.
It'll probably go the way of EL's Small Planet and move away from downtown since there's not a tremendous amount of real estate available.
They've had fountain soda for years though. It's just difficult to get to because there's always a line of people on top of it waiting to make their burger orders.

I'm not sure where they move. They are currently in a high density, urban area with a ton of residential foot traffiic. The dorms are nearby and university workers have access to. Despite the horrendous parking situation they are in a perfect spot for what they do.
There is almost 1-2 openings on State St each year but the rent is pretty high. There is a significant amount of former restaurant space just past State on Packard, which is kind of a ghost town as like 3 places closed at the same time last year.
i miss Blimpy Burger.
Interesting, you can tell I haven't lived in Michigan for a while. You're right that there aren't good options because Blimpy perfectly straddled the line between campus and downtown (thus, Division Street), so they get a lot of that business. However, since its such a destination, I think the could move to South U and still do equally well. South U has a ton of locations that are just dormant. The old Bagel Fragel building hasn't had a business there for 15 years, and the spots just off South U. on East U., Church, and Forest are always opening up and then going under. Has anything lasting ever made it in the old Warehouse Records store above Good Time Charlies? I know BTB owns the building (and Charlies) now, but is there anything up there? That would be a great location for BB, and would even open up late night options if they were interested.
BTB Cantina is above GTC now. I've never been there for a bar night, but will grab a burrito there occasionally. I'm not going to be surprised when Michigan buys out Dominick's and turns it into an office too Nothing survives more than a year on the NW corner of South U and Forest. It's been a Video Store, a convenience store, a Leo's Coney Island, "King of Queens", a N.Y.Pizza Depot, a sushi place, now it's coming up on it's next tenant. There has never been enough foot traffic to sustain that area for whatever reason. Maybe the new apartment tower will help but I doubt it. I still can't believe that a McDonald's got forced out and a Bubble Island has been in its spot for 6-7 years now.
If they keep this up they will eventually have a real campus.
Yep, I saw the right to work news too. You're right.
