RB Delton Williams - Dantonio mentioned multiple times that he will get his first crack at RB. Said they were recruiting him as a S/LB early but in January they thought of him more as a RB.
RB RJ Shelton - Also singled out by Dantonio as being a possibility for early playing time to replace Bell.
RB Gerald Holmes - Dantonio mentioned a few times that he's not afraid to play true freshmen at RB. Holmes could be a possible replacement for Bell as well.
K Michael Geiger - Depends on how Muma and some of the other kickers do. I was talking to Mike Sadler's sister and she mentioned that he used to kick FGs in high school and he could be a decent option there too.
LB Jon Reschke - Probably will get snaps at MIKE to prepare for Bullough leaving.
QB Damion Terry - Dantonio said he's "physically ready to play" but will depend on how the other 3 QBs on the roster are (and they have an advantage) and how quickly Terry can pick up the playbook and get accustomed to college speed.
We could possibly see CB Justin Williams or WR Jay Harris getting a look at PR/KR....but I think we have other options there like Sims and Kings that we could use without burning a redshirt.
The Sadler question is pretty interesting if you ask me. I remember when he was being recruited there was talk that he could punt and kick for MSU down the line (specifically after Conroy graduated). Obviously, he's spent the majority of his time perfecting his craft punting the football, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him get some reps kicking in spring practice.
And if the good Lord’s willin’,
I’m a keep on chillin’,
refillin’ and flyin’ high
Honestly, if Geiger is already solid, I'd rather have him taking kicks instead of having someone learn the position.
Dude has a hell of a leg punting. I'm sure he would be fine as a spot kicker but we do have Muma for another year and then Evan Fischer is a decent walk-on I think.
Although Geiger was ranked the #1 kicker by Chris Sailer, so he must be pretty good.
Hondo Carpenter @HondoCarpenter
Told by someone inside @MSU_Football that @DantonioMark was in love with @DamionTerry They said, "Never seen coach so fired up for 1 guy"
I wonder if any of the the WRs/DBs from the 2013 class will get early time. I find it hard to believe that any safety could break into the rotation with the sick list we have there already. CB could be interesting though. Dennard no doubt has a spot locked up, but Waynes only has one game of experience. He looked good but I don't think his spot is saved yet. Heard a lot of good things about Ezra Robinson too. Colquhoun and Edmondson haven't been drawing much attention, so could Darian Hicks get some time? Dantonio is really excited about him.
Kilgore probably needs time to heal his foot. Jay Harris could potentially get some reps but I think with all the WRs coming back + Madaris it'll be hard for him to get on the field.
This is off topic, but a few beat writers tweeted today that Coach D said Madaris was right there with Burbridge as far as getting big playing time as a true F, but an injury to the ankle snuffed that out. Madaris didn't get much press last year because of it, but that's encouraging I think.
Madaris was probably the most polished receiver in last year's class. Moeller's coaching staff is really good and that's why their alums can make an impact fairly early (Jones, Rush, etc.).
I can definitely see why Madaris' injury could have hampered his development and ability to get PT. He's not as "quick" as Burbridge but he's a big target who has pretty good straight line speed. I hope he gets some PT in 2013.
Lets hope Arnett get its together this season. I think if he has a good spring its time to move Lippett to DB
Which WR did coach D say was going to be devin Thomas in 2012?
Lets give the WR's a chance to make a name for themselves at their own pace.

Reschke won't see the field. We've got Harris and Davis to back him up, LB is one of our two luxury positions.
Reschke is probably the only other true MIKE on the field. He's Max Bullough's heir apparent, he will see some time the way Max did in 2010 behind Greg Jones.
I believe Davis is a SAM and Harris is a STAR.

Running backs, possibly geiger, and no one else. Muma is no slouch, but kickers are wild cards. I just dont think terry loses a year of eligibity for a small package installed for him. Either maxwell figures it out or o'conner runs away with it (such a guess). Which will make it really confusing the next year, as Terry is such a force. It feels like nickles and cousins all over again going into that season.
I see no one except for maybe a RB ( still have Hill, Tompkins, and Langford there). Especially a bruiser like Holmes. Geiger could come in and win out in a kicking battle seeing as Muma couldn't knock out Conroy, not sure that he won't come in right away. Probably no one else though. They'd have to really dominate in fall camp and that just hasn't happened in the last 5 years or so.
I think Geiger and Holmes are the most likely. Holmes is the closest physically to Leveon and we'll need a bigger back. If we're lucky we can redshirt the rest.
If nothing else, it's encouraging to see so many RB prospects discussed. I think a lot of us are eager to see Nick Tompkins, but worst case scenario something happens or he doesn't pan out, there appear to be so many more options. It's great to see and great to see right now considering we Bell has left.
The true Fr. who have a chance to contribute in 2013 :
MIKE LB Jon Reschke - The staff wants to get him on the field in certain situations to be ready to replace Max Bullough in 2014.
RB Gerald Holmes - Will get an opportunity to be the power back in 2013.
RB Delton Williams - Will begin his MSU career @ RB. He is a bigger version of Larry Caper because he has a real feel for the passing game as a receiver out of the backfield. If he doesn't learn the offense quickly, there is a possibility he could be moved to defense. If that happens, he will be red-shirted.
You don't think Geiger has a shot?
I thought Riley was the backup mike with Hammock moving to FB.
Hammock may stay at FB, but the younger Bulloughs are both OLB prospects. Riley's a SAM.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
Ah yes, good old Nickles.
Reschke is basically the only one that is almost guaranteed to play next year.
Delton Williams and Gerald Holmes will likely battle at power RB.
Dantonio said Shelton has a chance, but I'm guessing he doesn't beat out Tompkins for the speed back position.
Other than that, Geiger and Terry will probably be given a shot, but both are tough positions to win as a freshman.
Also, if Shane Jones is good enough, I could see them using him on ST similar to Taiwan Jones' career path.
Hard to see anyone else playing, with the possible exception of Bodanis, if he is eligible.
laconophilia is everywhere...
All of the RBs (including Williams) will have the best chance at contributing.
If Reschke is the backup MIKE then I can't imagine why he wouldn't ever see the field. Max saw time while he and Greg Jones were here together. Sometimes the starters just need a breather. It happens.
With the little experience at TE, Chmura may see some PT.
I'm tempted to say Bodanis, but there is such a logjam at DL. I liked what I saw from Kittredge, and hopefully Reynolds stays on this side of the ball so he doesn't keep bouncing around. There's still Knox, Fennell, and maybe Thomas?
Coaches who can outline plays on a black board are a dime a dozen. The ones who win get inside their player and motivate.
Is Shane Jones projected as a STAR or SAM?
Sorry guys, but I just don't see us burning Terry's redshirt. There are three QBs ahead of him on the depth chart. And I don't think using him for "special packages" is worth a year of eligibility. We're all excited about his talent, but he's likely not gonna play next year.
SAM but he could play STAR too.
I would say Reschke and Geiger are the ones that are almost guaranteed to play. The fact that people seem so convinced that Muma can win the job is puzzling to me. Muma has had chances to beat out Conroy and never really came close to doing it. Kevin Muma is a kickoff guy and that is it. He has been a big disappointment up to now (yes I would call a kicker on scholarship that only kicks off a disappointment) but all of a sudden he is going to start nailing FG's when pressure is on him?
