Duke and the ACC had a basketball tradition long before Coach K got there. Northwestern doesn't seem to appeal to the local kids.
come on folks. As someone already said, Duke ISN'T NW. The Dukies will let anyone in if they can play Bball (AND give their parents a job). NW... not so much. You've got to have half a brain (considerable more actually) to get in there.
Besides, it's a private U with monetary limitations. I'm thinking that basketball is considered a 'nice' diversion for the students during winter semester. I don't really think that 'winning sports' is all that important to the NW administration.
Edit: This because they actually ARE the 'Harvard of the Midwest'. (with Stanford being the 'Harvard of the West' ).

Nίκη για MSU
I have been hearing that Carmody does this great job with limited resources and talent for years and years...but if he's such a great coach couldn't he get his team to the tournament one time? I thought this was true myself about 8 years ago or so. The truth is Carmody has been coaching there so long...how do we know someone else couldn't do better? We have nothing recent to compare him to at that school. People just assume they couldn't do much better with someone else...but how the hell do we know?
Northwestern has been consistently at least decent in football and makes bowls fairly regularly despite those same tough admission standards. You could say they don't care about basketball but...I've been to their football stadium, no one cares about their football program either.
Who let the tard out of his cage?
