Screw that. It's National Championship or bust. FF isn't good enough if Payne and Harris return.
"People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." - Mark Dantonio.
"It will be interesting. They'll either have a great season, it will be a disappointment, or somewhere in betwee... Any rate."
We're a top 10 squad right now. Top 12 for sure. We lose nix (big loss) but we have a jump for costello, valentine, dawson (who will be shooting 5K shots each day), Kaminski, and maybe harris. We add Schilling who may be a contributor, and will probably add a wing who can shoot as a 5th year graduate player.
Duke will lose Kelly and Plumlee, and have an incredebly weak front line. Louisville loses Siva and Deng. IU will be gutted. Miami will lose a ton of players. KU is losing Withey and McLemore, Gonzaga (haha), GT loses porter from a marginal team, O$U loses thomas, scUM will be gutted, Marquette is old, blah blah blah. This year of CBB is geared towards older players.
We'll be the best team in the B1G, and the only teams that have the same or more incoming / returning talent than us are Kentucky, Duke, and maaaaaaybe O$U,
Izzo likes tough players. Some pan out, some don't, just like any other player. Let me guess, you probably though Aaron craft was a loser coming out of high school too.
Payne and Harris both are gonna come back this year. App is a tough guy. We are hard on the dude but his play has come a real long way. Another year of development for app, Payne, Harris and Dawson make me drool. Denzel is a player. We are going to be a force next year
Losing Nix hurts, but tonight highlights just how much he struggles against length.
Looking ahead to next year:
- I see Harris coming back healthy and stronger. Plus the confidence and experience of having a year under his belt will help.
- Appling will continue to improve. He got better as the year went on (his numbers actually matchup favorably to KLIF's junior year). If he can build on his late season success behind the arc then he could be great next year.
-Payne, if he returns, needs to work on his back to the basket post moves. It's the last step towards making him a truly dominant player.
-Dawson needs to spend all the time he didn't get to spend in the offseason last year working on ball handling and jump shooting. He doesn't need to be a three point threat, but even a 10-15 foot range would help.
-Costello, like most freshmen needs strength and polish. I like his game, he's just young.
-Trice needs to stay healthy, put on weight, and polish his game. It's talented, but reckless right now. Playing under control is key for him.
- same goes for Valentine. He's got a high ceiling, just needs to harness his energy to avoid mistakes and refine certain aspects of his game. This goes double for his jumper.
Couldn't have said it any better. There are players on this roster who simply aren't scholarship worthy of an elite program like MSU is. We need fucking SHOOTERS...not projects that take 3 years to develop into becoming just an average B1G player.

"I love March!" - Tom Izzo
Best statement that I heard an analyst say during the week was that programs like UCLA don't hang FF banners....just national championship ones. You don't want to become known as the Atlanta Braves of college basketball, but truth be told that is where MSU basketball is at the so-called "elite" level now.
You are looking at things through some very green tinted glasses IMO
And floor leadership too.
Team needs to drastically improve its ball handling skills.
"I think the world is run by C students"
We said the same thing after last season too.
We will be fine next year as long as we don't play duke with Jabari Parker.
I know losing Nix was tough and he was a good Spartan but he was abused defensively time and again on the pick and roll. I hate to say it and I hope he doesn't read this stuff but he was limited defensively and he got his shot blocked a lot.
I'm just saying it's not like we're losing Tim Duncan. We will be fine. Some of the new guys will bring some positives and things that Nix, god bless him, couldn't do such as lateral quickness, a jump shot and the ability to dunk it over people. (Nix if you read this don't hate me).
I know this is going to sound ridiculous to some fans, but the program is at a point where it's National Championship or bust.
Gary Harris was 5 years old when the Flintstones won the title.
You're correct, that's ridiculous.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
I wouldn't mind a graduate student that could knock down a 3 joining the squad...

Especially when he's wide open.
In this era of hoops NO ONE is NC or Bust. Some teams are (2009 UNC, 2005 UNC, Kentucky teams each year), but NO program is that point.
