Dude. You're killing me.
You said Evans was "guaranteed #2 overall pick", and would have come back if Cal hadn't left because he wanted to go #1.
So, he DOES enter the draft, and doesn't go #2 (not much of a guarantee, eh?)...but goes 4th.
And, he would have been the #1 pick the next year? Ahead of John Wall?
That 2009-10 Memphis team would have been loaded with Evans and Wall in the backcourt and Cousins and a few others upfront.
With Cal leaving and taking Wall and Cousins, Evans had really no choice but to turn pro. Cal told Evans he was leaving and convinced him to turn pro. If he stayed at Memphis without Cal, without Wall and without Cousins, his stock most likely would have tanked. BTW, in 09, I think the difference between #1 and #4 was 3-4 million guaranteed over the contract.

So, he WAS guaranteed 2...but was actually drafted 4...but would have been 1 ahead of Wall the next year if Cal had stayed at Memphis.
If you're going to try and sound smart and in the know jyd, at least get the guys name right. It's noel, not novels.

So you think the Grizzlies was smart because they selected Thabeet in front of him? That pick stumped everyone. To a degree, so did James Harden to OKC.
And who knows if Wall would have been putting up the same numbers at Memphis if he was playing next to Evans. I don't think he would.
Bottom line is that some players want that #1 overall tag. Noels may be one of those players. If he stays, UK will have chemistry issues.
There have been some dumb topics in RCMB history but this one ranks at the top. What did UK show you this year that would lead you to believe they'll be the best team in the SEC let alone country?
You said Evans was "guaranteed #2 overall pick". You said that. Not me. You.
Look up the word guarantee in the dictionary if you don't know what it means.
Depends...is Calipari going to turn in the same shitty coaching performance that he did this year? Do his 'uncoachable' players pull their heads out of their asses and remember how to play basketball? Does Noel come back at full strength?
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
He was....until the lottery and Memphis screwed up and pick Thabeet. That pick was all around dumb, and everyone knew it. The media in Memphis hammered the Grizz for selecting him over Evans.
They are going to be preseason #1, that's a given.
Memphis already had Mike Conley
Rogue Leader= Obese coward who didn't attend MSU and has no college degree
I know, and Gay I believe. However, the Grizz selected a project that wasn't even projected to go top 10 over him, Harden, Steph Curry and a few others.
If the Grizz didn't have the 2nd pick, Evans would have been selected.

If no one leaves they are going to have 15 guys on scholarship. I don't work for the NCAA, but i'm pretty sure that's not legal. The housecleaning is going to start with Harrow. He was the main cancer according to most. Wiltjer is also likely gone - a classic SEC grey shirt scenario w/ a 5 star that didn't pan out. the other guys all say they are returning so i don't know what they will do to make room for SEVEN new players. with the incoming recruits, their roster for 2014 would look like (11 5 stars, 2 4 stars, 1 3 star, and 1 nobody):
Aaron Harrison Fr. 5 star
Andrew Harrison Fr. 5 star
Dakari Johnson Fr. 5 star
Marcus Lee Fr. 5 star
Julius Randle Fr. 5 star
James Young Fr. 5 star
Derek Wills Fr. 3 star
Nerlens Noel Soph 5 star
Cauley-Stein Soph 4 star
Archie Goodwin 5 star
Alex Poythress 5 star
Ryan Harrow Jr. 5 star
Kyle Wiltjer Jr. 5 star
Jon Hood Sr. 4 star
Jarrod Polson Sr. 2 star
Sam Malone Jr.
Todd Lanter Jr. CC transfer
Todd Lanter CC transfer
It would be stupid of Calipari to try and shove Wiltjer out the door. Put him on a team where he can play 10-15 minutes off the bench, and you're going to get somebody who can provide deadly outside shooting and space the floor for penetrating guards. That would likely be his role next season with all the incoming players at UK.
On the flipside, if he's in a starting role playing 25-30 minutes, it's a sign that your team probably sucks.
Now that I look at this list, here's my guess:
Noel goes pro
Polson becomes a walk-on -OR- either Cauley-Stein or Poythress transfer.
IF all of that happens, they now have room for the incoming class. What I will never understand in a million years is how Cal gets a guy like Randle to commit to be the SIXTH 5 star in the same class. No matter what happens, they will have 8 or 9 five star guys on that team next year. Most of them freshmen and sophomores. That is utterly insane.
Why don't they just make UK part of the D-league? It's all it is anyway.
And if that roster stays pat, I guarantee some egos will get hurt, or some of the late signing period players will sign elsewhere.
i agree...but he needs to get rid of 3 guys somehow. and how many five stars are going to want to be the tenth man?
I've gotta admit, I'm shocked to learn that Wiltjer was a five-star.
I only care about Michigan State. Next question.
You are just fucking awful in how you bring up hypothetical situations to discuss. Here you have a discussion about a non-MSU team. On this non-MSU team, you have tried to talk about players who may or may not leave, players who may or may not even make it on campus, and how said players may or may not have chemistry problems with each other. What the fuck use is this?
does anyone know the story with Harrow? I didn't realize he transferred from NC State. what happened there? Clearly the kid has issues - WOTS is that he quit the team at some point early in the year and Cal talked him back, but made concessions to him and the team hates him....which is where all the "i let the inmates run the asylum" talk coming from Cal comes from. He was in the 2010 class with Leslie, so must have left after his freshman year, which made him a RS Soph this year. He's out of redshirts so that makes running him off even harder, as he'd have to sit another year and have a senior season somewhere. But if he's the one guy Cal wants gone the most, he gone.
For all the jizzing over their five stars, that team is a mess.
A reflection of their shitbag coach.
If everyone that could come back, came back(Long shot, I know), am I wrong in thinking the Top 3 teams should all be B1G teams?
If everyone that CAN return, DOES return, please tell me how/why Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State wouldn't be the Top 3 teams in the country?
You left out the part about how Noel might be coming back (and not going pro), and how this would be similar to how another player in the past stayed in school (and did not go pro)...except that player did go pro. But he hypothetically might have stayed.
Preseason #1 and GOAT are a lot fucking different. To even be in consideration for the best of all time they needed to be at least good this year. They were fucking awful even before Noel went down this year.
