I agree with the "just win" crowd. BUT....MSU has won consistently for 16 years. You guys know the numbers. (1 NC, 2 NC games, 6 FFs....).
I don't know how much more Izzo's teams can win before ESPN and other media outlets start giving MSU the props this program should be getting. If you don't think winning AND media attention would help with recruiting top notch players, you are fooling yourselves.
Hey, I always love being the underdogs throughout the season. MSU always plays with a chip on its' shoulder. But when Izzo tries to recruit the Parkers and Alexanders, some positive pub would help attract guys like that, I think.

Again I think it has to do with wins-losses-and rankings.
MSU was/is carrying around 1 and 2 losses more than Indiana and UM.
The funny thing is indianas RPI is pathetic and UM still hasn't really beaten anyone of value away from home.
I guess we will see what happens. My only point is that ESPN isn't against MSU and it isn't a conspiracy.
P.S. MSU should be ranked higher than UM at the end of this week providing that heu beat nebraska and if they aren't it will be a shame.
Same thing with Indiana. If they beat Indiana and at the end next week still only 4 losses they should be ranked higher than Indiana.
You response is weak.
I don't think that they are "against" us, but they certainly aren't doing us as many favors as they are doing Duke, Indiana, Michigan, and Kentucky (still??). Unfortunately, the pre-season ranking systems colored a lot of perceptions. People thought that MSU losing to Miami was a "bad" loss at the time and we were punished in the press for it. Now they are #3 in the country. Do we get extra rankings credit for it not actually being bad? Of course not. You get a win in the early season over an overrated team (like NC State) and get the bump for it but never get the rankings drop when they actually are pretty mediocre. It's a flawed system but fortunately at least you've got the tournament to iron some things out
Exactly. The actual games have a way of evening everything out.
MSU was a number one seed last year. Why? Because they earned it.
If MSU players want to make it to the NBA they have to earn it too.
They have all played at an NBA level at times this year and they all have holes in their games and inconsistent as well.
Dawson needs to work on his jumper. Nix said that Oladepo doesn't do anything better? He can shoot threes and is a better slasher. Dawson is a better rebounder but he can improve.
As far as Payne and Zeller I think Zeller gets more minutes and is a better post scorer.
MSU may not have a lottery pick but the sum is greater than its parts.
Nix is really the only guy who's time is running out. I love him but he will have to bring it over the next month and transform his body even more if he wants to make it to the NBA. You can't hype your way into the NBA.
Look at Alan anderson. Look at the first round picks who flame out and never make it to a roster. He is going to have to earn it like everyone else.
I for one think that Oledipo is under-rated. Once he added that jumper ...
He should be a lottery pick. I think he has the potential to be an NBA stud. At worst, he will make it because he Ds up.
Anyway, it is not like that NBA draft analysts are basing their projections on ESPN highlights. I don't like the over-played "no respect" card to begin with, but that just doesn't make any sense.
The one thing that I've actually been getting a little bit tired of is hearing how Michigan has more talent/depth. Anyone really believe that after watching Michigan's bench be totally useless?
No, they don't believe that. Izzo showed his bench. He had to drill all the way down to walk-ons to get a group who didn't score on the SCumers.
The other thing that ticks me off is saying that SCum is young and that's why they got that beatdown from MSU. State has only one senior on this team.

The will to succeed is important, but what's more important is the will to prepare.
Michigan and Indiana are both overrated I agree with you there.
Michigan has beaten no one away from home and their schedule was much weaker than MSU.
I didn't think Michigan would/could beat OSU, Indiana, or MSU (on the road) and they couldn't beat Wisconsin on the road either.
I figured MSU would take care of them. MSU is too strong inside for UM and I am not even sure if they can beat MSU at
Jon horford is useless. Morgan is still banged up and McGary is not exactly refined.
As soon as it was clear that UMs 6-5 smurfs 3s and 4s couldn't drive around Payne and Dawson or get open threes the game was over.

Michigan has zero depth. They have Burke, Hardaway, GR3, Stauskas, and McGary. Who is behind them? An injured Jordan Morgan, a clueless Horford, and the monstrous scoring options of LeVert, Albrecht, and Bielfeldt (average 2.4, 1.2, and 1.1 ppg in B1G play, respectively).
They have a lot of backups but no depth. They have 4-5 guys that are like our Byrd (9th-10th player).

I got home from the game and turned on the re-run of Sportscenter. There were two or three NBA games, the UF-UK game, discussion on Nerlens Noel, and a commercial all before they mentioned our game, which seemed like a 40 second highlight.
Yet we've been hearing for months how deep they were. If your backup PG is practically a walk-on, you aren't deep.
I can't wait until march 2nd because I think MSU can get them again.
Also Indiana has a great chance to beat them at AA as well.
Is the RCMB gong to have one of those threads about taking over Crisler again?
Nix is spot on.
Nix, Appling, Harris and Dawson will all be drafted in nba and will each make six figures minimum in a professional league if they go pro this year. It's up to them to do the math to see whether staying in college will allow themselves to improve to the point of offsetting playing for. $0.00.

Nix is 100% right. And it is his place to say this. He is a captain and a leader of our team. He is the only Senior on the team and the only one on the team who is guaranteed to not be on the team next year. The last game everything was clicking and we kicked the shit out of an overrated scum team on our floor in front of our crowd (who had its best game maybe ever?) in terms of intimidation to the opposition. The white-out actually flipping worked! And............ nobody got to see it. espn shunned Michigan State. Protecting the team they had hyped for over 4 months. Nix got slighted by this because he is running out of game film to show potential scouts. This was gold game film. If they had shown our highlights in any form of depth whatsoever, like they would have if scUM had won, then the nation (who were watching the state of the union address) would have played witness to a 14 point Nix effort. His hook shot to put us up 4-0 was a thing of beauty anyone who appreciates the game of basketball would have enjoyed (I know I was grinning ear to ear when that baby splashed). espn is pitiful. Nix is right. Michigan State is being slighted. But, my friends, this is good. Because a slighted Michigan State, is a very, very, very dangerous squad...... Keep it up, Nix! Way to stick up for your teammates, Big Trixy! Go Green! (we gonna win this shit this year, I feel it)
Of course Nix is right. Nothing will change. F*ck Michigan... let's go embarrass them on their court and worry about our own aspirations. We can't keep looking for table scraps from the "Disneyland of Sports" network.
We've got the best coach and the classier, cleaner program. Let them fight over tabloids while we look forward to titles and championships.
Have absolutely no issues with what he said.... And if this is the "chip on the shoulder" that is part of fuelling this team at this point in time, then cool.... Go out and prove something.... They played like they had a message to get out to the world last Tuesday.... Beat nebraska or last tuesday means nothing, Then go out and do the same next Tuesday!
MSU really needs to beat Indiana on Tuesday night, our kids have played by the rules.
First up is Nebraska and they better be ready to play.
He's gotten everyone's attention. Now Nix and his teammates need to keep digging deeper each game for improvements and WIN!
This team has played against the BEST college players and have often beat them. I hope the fans duplicate the passion we saw Tuesday for every team that comes into the Breslin Center for the rest of the season.
I believe these Nix and the other guys have turned a corner and will be bringing it for the rest of the season!

I'm typically a "keep your mouth shut" kinda guy - but I think what Nix said here is appropriate.
But as others have mentioned, if you're gonna say things like this, you have to back it up. So far MSU has done that, but there are a lot of games left this season.
Love Nix. Love the team.
However, my major pet peeve was his comment about needing basketball to get out of the hood....wtf?
You are going to a premier college and getting a degree...if NBA doesn't play out be like 99% of everyone else and start a career somewhere else.
There are plenty of people that don't play in the NBA or have the NBA skills that don't "live in the hood" Nix.
Kentucky as a recruiting magnet has been far more harmful to Kansas, UNC, Texas and UCLA than it has been to us.
I'm in the camp that is pissed we don't get more hype but love the fact Izzo uses it to put chips on peoples shoulders. Izzo is the best at that

YOUR have been banned from reading and posting on the Michigan Wolverine board.
I agree with the big guy about everything but the Dawson/Home Depot comparison. Victor can shoot the ball away from the rim and hits free throws with more consistency, but Dawson is a better offensive rebounder. I think for the most part our guys are overlooked purely based on stats, and the NBA doesn't care too much about defense.
I'm actually good with MSU players flying under the NBA radar for selfish reasons. It just means they'll stick around longer. But in Nix's case I definitely think he is a bit underrated and would make a good role player on most NBA rosters.
