Hah its funny because if he would have been mugged as badly as craft, he definitely would have gotten the call
The more I think about it from watching Michigan play..I believe we can actually blow them out. When they go up against a tough defense, they struggle. Ohio State presented that tough defense in both of their match ups. I also think we have the interior strength to get literally 40-50 points in the paint if we can get the ball inside to Payne, Nix, and even a slashing Dawson. Harris and Trice are big threats on the perimeter..so an inside outside game would work really well for us against Michigan. I think we are a match up nightmare for Michigan.
But do we need pom poms ?
Forgot to mention throw in Valentine on Burke is a huge mismatch and an advantage for us. He has the size to stop Burke. We just need Appling to stay out of foul trouble. We have two games left before Michigan..so let's get the W's.
You're nuts if you think Valentine can guard Burke.
Uh Burke is probably the best guard in the country and is averaging something like 18ppg and 7apg. Throwing Valentine at him is not a mismatch and advantage for us. Burke would kill him. Why wouldn't Izzo throw Appling (our best defensive guard) on Burke? Craft has shown that Burke can be bothered and slowed down with tight defense and Appling can provide that better than Valentine IMO
It had been a wonderful evening and what I needed now, to give it the perfect ending, was a little of the Ludwig Van.
He has the size, but does he have the quickness is the real question. I feel much more confident if its Appling on Burke.
Good post. People are too busy talking about how great Craft is Burke still had 16 points and 8 assists last night. Burke would take it to Valentine a couple times early and wouldn't guard him again.
MSU beat OSU by 3. U of M beat OSU by 2 last night and Lost to OSU by three in Ohio...so...allof the stuff you mentioned doesnt amount to a hill of beans. We both have good teams. I dont think it will be a blow out either way.

Valentine can only be on Burke late in the shot clock on a switch when he has to launch a falling away 3 over a tall defender.
All of you saying we are going to blow Michigan out are crazy, as are the ones saying they won't stay hot from the arc. They are 41.2% for the year from 3. As a team better than our individually best shooter. Hardaway, Stauskus, and GR3 are a combined 123-273 (45.1%). Why? Because 1) Michigan is dynamite in transition and many of their 3's come in transition. 2) In the halfcourt Burke creates open looks by penetrating the lane and Beilein runs good ball screens up top.
Our keys are 1) no turnovers that turn into easy threes and 2) in halfcourt defense, our wing defenders have to stay home on their men. If Appling gets beat and Burke gets a shot in the paint, so what. We can't let the other guys beat us. Dawson and Payne especially tend to overhelp and get out of position. Assuming Harris starts on Hardaway, Dawson and Payne will have Stauskus and GR3. They have to stay home on those guys.
Denfinitely have to stay out of foul trouble against these guys. Applings foul trouble killed us against Indi, IMO.
When is the last time a MSU/UM game was this big in basketball? Maybe the early 90s? Maybe Skiles/Joubert?
They were big games last year. I think people may be going a bit overboard, and it will build to near insanity by the time the games actually are played.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
They were B1G co-champs last year.
This point cannot be overstated.
I think these teams are better though
Let's take care of Minnesota and terrible Purdue first. Can't afford to drop these games.
They had to shoot almost 60% from 3 last night to beat OSU. They won't stay that hot. Call me crazy.
They won't stay that hot, but OSU also had probably its best all around game of the season. That is the first time the offense didn't look totally dependant upon Thomas.
OSU also showed UM's weakness. The paint. Nix and Payne need a lot of touches. One because they can dominate UM's big men but also because we need to shoot a high percentage to limit UM's transition.
