Just bought a Bosch to replace our 18 year old Kitchen Aid that wasn't cleaning well. Bosch is very quiet and capacity is similar to the Kitchen Aid we had. Cleans extremely well-- our glassware is now shiny clean (we had no idea that the Kitchen Aid was that bad). Although it does not have an air dry, I've found that using the "sanitize" function gets the dishes dry. No complaints-- bought from Best Buy with a 10% off sale, free installation and haulaway.
Look in the manual for the setting to increase the water temp, always use sanitize setting and use a rinse aid. I do that and my dishes are always dry.
Purchased a Kitchen Aid dishwasher from ABC about 2 years ago as our old GE Profile also croaked after about 10 yrs of service. Went with them mainly on reputation and being US based. The unit washes dishes well, but as time goes by is becoming more noisy, especially during the "grind cycle" (this unit has sort of a food disposer). Wife hates the increase in noise in the kitchen, so may go with Consumer Report recommendations for quiet dishwahers next time.

I amvery disappointed in my latest collection of kitchen aid products. My previous KA products lasted for years trouble free. The new ones simply do not.
If you have hardwater, get the cheaper one.
KitchenAid (minus the mixer) is garbage

We've had both. Don't settle for anything less than a stainless steel interior; Bosch and KA are one of the few that do that. Anything else will pit and crack requiring you to buy another DW sooner. Both are super quiet...hardly can tell they are on even when you start them and you're standing right next to the thing. KA had problems a few years back with steam leaking sideways out of the washer and into your cabinets.. really bad problem which is why we got the Bosch 10 years ago. When that finally gave up the ghost we got a top of the line Kitchen Aid and its been super. Basically go with whatever gives you the best deal but don't settle for a lower model in either and don't settle for a different brand than one of those two. All other dishwashers pale in comparison to a Bosch or a Kitchen Aid.
(FYI...I thought Bosch was a Swedish brand not German..but I could be wrong... doesn't matter.. they are super)
Stainless interiors are a waste. They are all show. They are also louder. The thing is only going to last 5 years so why waste money on a stainless interior?
I have had a KA dishwasher for over 10 years and can't really complain about it, however, we bought a convection oven at the same time and every time you hit the self clean cycle it blows a thermal fuse. First time was under warranty and they put some tape around the top compartment and said that was the factory fix.
Now I have a $2000 oven that I doesn't self clean like a $500 one would. I am in the residential construction business and KA is not high on my list because of this.

but it would give you lots of time to practice your whistling skills as you wipe them down and put them all away.
I originally thought this was a spring training thread!
top of the line kitchen aid installed and working well. it is very quiet at 40db. The top bosch was $400 more and only rated at 39db. Feels better to support 'murica...
Thanks a bunch -- I'll give it a try!
This is just plain bad advice. The top two brands--the ones being discussed the most in this thread--offer stainless interiors and are consistently the quietest on the mainstream market. I've only just started researching dishwashers and this info was easy and obvious to find.
Plus, most (not all) dishwashers last 10+ years.
Maybe you bought a Playskool model?

Do yourself a favor, get the Bosch. I got rid of a Kitchen Aid last year and replaced it with a Bosch. Big difference!
