Rap/Hip Hop used to be the genre that I listened to, just got sick of it. I've been listening to alternative rock a lot lately. But anyway, outside of Jay-Z and Kanye West albums, I'm not sure when the last time I enjoyed a rap album more than Good Kid m.A.A.d. City. Marshall Mathers LP? Stankonia? Idk, but I think it is really good. Not just about "bitches, cars, and money" Glad I stumbled upon it.
We Hope For Better Things; It Shall Rise From the Ashes.
I haven't wiped my ass with good toilet paper since I stopped investing in charmin.

He was money on SNL a few weeks back
When I was an undergrad at State, I knew a guy who's name was Kendrick. Of course, that was his last name. I didn't really know him that well, but he seemed like a good guy.
Edit: I did know someone who went by Kendall. I'm pretty sure that was his first name.

Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read. - Groucho Marx
So they worked in weed and avoiding the cops in too?
Not trying to be a "hater" it's just all I hear from rap and such. I don't mind rap itself, just a lot of the substance.

Good Kid m.a.a.d city was my #2 album last year to A$AP Rocky's Long Live A$AP. Kendrick Lamar guests on a few tracks. If you like Good Kid, you'll love A$AP Rocky
No, I know. Thanks for not just being an ass and making so comment about wiping your ass with something like someone else would haha. But I agree with you, that's why I stopped listening. I just thought something was different about this one.
Oh it's all in good fun, I was hoping it would be taken in the context of humor vs. a judgement on you. I really do hate how rap and other urban music styles continue the glorification of the of gangster lifestyle. It has a negative influence in society in general and encourages bad decisions. Garbage in, garbage out. I do think however there is some good rap out there just harder to find when the genre is dominated by the type I previously mentioned.
Best rapper out by far right now. Saw him in September at ROMT, and plan on seeing him in April. GKMC tells an amazing story
Listen to his song "Sing About Me, I'm dying of thirst" ... Breaks most stereotypes
GKMC is a classic in my book. Amazing story telling, very good production, and of course great lyricism
I enjoy the hell out of both albums but they are zero percent comparable other than being good. completely different subject matter. rocky mostly talks about clothes, women, drugs...hardly a storyteller like kendrick is
GKMC is on Illmatic level. I don't just say that either. Introspective tracks like of The Art Peer Pressure, Party tracks like Swimming Pools and Raw tracks like Backseat Freestyle. Perfect Hip hop album. Check out Anilyst he is pretty awesome too.

And "Swimming Pools" is only a party song if you interpret it that way, which is why Kendrick is a genius
Yeah its half party half sad addiction song. Something Drake could never do
Section .80 >>>>
Ab-soul my fav from Black Hippy though.
This. Both special talents, but they sound nothing alike. East Coast hip hop vs. West.
And I prefer GKMC. Probably in my top 3 albums of 2012. "m.A..A.d. city" honestly frightens me.
If there a specific Ab-soul mixtape or album you would recommend?
I listen to pretty much every genre of music and GKMC is easily the best album I heard last year. Saying it's only about weed and cars is like saying Mad Men is a show about scotch.
I don't get Danny Brown. I can't find any appeal
Welcome to 2 years ago...
I am pretty sure that's what people said about Drake or Lil'Wayne when they first came out... ....best rapper ever man!!!

Location: Mumbai, India
Wayne was good when he first started, Drake is Drake. Kendrick is nothing like either of these two at all. Wayne never had anything that compares to the storytelling of OD, Section 80, and GKMC
He's not black hippy... But he might be soon
lol..worst comparison ever
Welcome home to your studio apartment......
Kendrick Lamar is considered "alternative rock"?
Geez... I remember when this was "alternative rock."
