16GB I assume? Good deal, $10 bucks cheaper than anyone else and a lot less than the $249 I paid back in August. FYI the 16GB has plenty of space for apps, games, videos, etc. Now for the same money I would definitely get the new 32GB version.

Right 16GB. Like you say, $10 cheaper than anywhere else I'd seen ... even online.
"The bottom line is that the iPad mini's display is simply not just poorer than the Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7, it's a lot poorer than either Android tablet."
Thank you for this link. It was very helpful. Interesting to learn that Apple is putting out a product that is not class-leading. Pay more and get less, it seems, in this case.
Thanks, everyone, for your experiences and opinions.
In hardware only.
In this case I have my iPhone and its apps. As I originally posted, I just seek a lightweight window on the Web. I need no apps.
Thanks again, everyone!
Posting from my brand new iPad mini. Really awesome.
Wish the mobile version of this site didn't have such tiny fonts for the iPad.
Anyone know of a resolution?
All the nooks have expandable memory with micro SD. Why isn't this a more popular feature?
247 is coming out with native apps any year now.
I think the big consideration is are you an Amazon Prime member?
If you are then Kindle is your tablet. You are restricted to getting ANY and ALL content for Kindle from Amazon so if you are Prime it makes total sense.
If you are not a Prime member then check into the Nook Color. We have one and it is very nice. You can actually borrow books from your local library on the Nook. (If you have a Kindle you can "borrow" but you will be redirected to Amazon for the borrowed book.) With the Nook you can load videos onto the SD card and view them on the tablet. Buy a good ripping program like Magic DVD ripper and copy all of your DVDs for perfectly sized (video quality and file size) use on the Nook. Nook apps are cool and useful; available numbers are slowly growing. Barnes and Noble "approve" the app before it is available in the Nook Apps store (not like the "Wild West" of Google Play).
If you want major cool factor with the cool kids then iPad is the way to go. You will be restricted to the "walled garden" of Apple (just like Amazon) until it can be jail broke (spelling?).
I have to admit the Nexes 7 looks interesting to me but I have never touched one let alone used one.
You can stream Amazon Prime video on iPad with no problems. As well as borrow books from you local library.
The nook color is really the old model being phased out. It was updated to the nook tablet which has a better screen and processor. There's also the newest nook HD and HD+ which do movie/TV downloads in full HD.
You are correct; one year old in electronics makes that technology real old! :)
Def give the Nooks a look. The ability to load things on the SD card and view on the Nook is a valuable flexability
Edit: Woops! Just realized I mistakenly called our Nook Tablet the Nook Color! I was maiking the same mistake last year when I bought it! Kept seeing great prices in the sale papers for the Color, would run out to get it only to realize I needed the Tablet!
