I don't know. Not every great BBALL player from high school plays on an IM team. Keep in mind that the walk ons practice with the team everyday.
I had no idea that walk-ons need a 4.0 or else they are done. Team GPA should only count for scholly players. 3.5 minimum would be more fair for walk- ons.
hoke- to alter or manipulate so as to give a deceptively or superficially improved quality or value.
You don't play, do you? As has been mentioned, lots of former small school players in IM ball, plus late bloomers plus guys who turned or quit other schools. The walk-on would get destroyed at the 1-3 spots, but could dominate at the 4 and 5, especially the 5. When I was was ASU, that was 6'8 and 6'10. At MSU, walk-ons never played with us, knew they had target on their back, stayed with team.
Take our five walk-ons vs. the best 5 student basketball players on campus(exclude football players), and I would choose the student players over the walk-ons 2 times out of 3. Another hypothetical...best of 3 games...throw Byrd with 4 walk-ons...could they win 2 out of 3 up to 12 full court. Gauna would be a ringer though at 6-10.

IM All-Stars fairly easily. I think a lot of you underestimate just how bad most of the walk-ons are. This is a current one; he averaged 4 and 2 in HS.

If you exclude the Football Players I think that it would be a much better game, not sure about 2 out of 3 but I agree that they would win at least half of the time.
If you are 6-7, how do you only get 4 ppg in HS?
Huh, lots of teams have 6-7 gumps who never get off the bench.
The 1.8 rebounds p/g at that height in HS makes even less sense.
Sounds like they would be unbeatable.
Walk-ons by at least 40 points.
At a school the size of MSU? Fuck no. Give me IM all stars all day long. There were some crazy talented kids even in my high school who didn't play high school ball. People need to realize that the structure and commitment of organized school sports isn't for everyone.
Most walk ons especially at a school like MSU are "preferred walk ons". They are much better than an IM all star team.
Wrong. Most walk ons stay walk ons in a basketball program like MSU's, very few are preffered walk ons who are offered a scholarship later on in their careers
I know the basketball team managers won the IM circuit last year, so I'd expect them to win on a regular basis. That's not the walk ons... That's the managers!
I just have to say, this thread represents everything that is good about the RCMB.
It nearly brought a tear to my eye.
If the IM all stars get two months of coaching by Tom Izzo, they win going away. Too much athleticism.
One of the new walk ons used to play at IM Circle before he became a walk on. I played with him once and he was next level compared to everyone else on the floor. Wasn't even close.
There are also a lot of kids in the IMs who could be playing at some small school but came to state instead because they could afford to attend college without a scholarship and would rather attend a school with good academics, good parties and good looking woman over a school with lesser academics, bad parties, and ugly woman.
MSU too big of a school to go against the IM all stars. In my time I've played with ballers on the IM courts that should have been over at Breslin.
IM all stars, not even close.
#1 The walk ons are all kids with very high grades and team players. They need to pass the ball in practice and thats about it.
#2 I have seen a MSU walk on team just play a random group of good players at the gym and get demolished. You wouldn't even be able to tell they were "MSU basketball players". There are always a few good players but there are some VERY good IM basketball players out there. Many just don't want to play college. I have seen IM players play a team with Korie, Kalin, Nix, and Summers a few years ago. Obviously the MSU team won but it wasn't as much of a blowout as you would think.
Michigan State University is the university of Michigan
IM all stars all day.
I played against Ualbany and Siena walk ons this past summer Our team won hands down but mostly because there are tons of talented inner city kids who just dont give two shits to be coached and have zero commitment. And1 ballers with little.fundamentals but tons of flash.
Would also go with the IM guys, but watching the way most of the walk on's dunk with authority in warm ups makes it clear these guys are very good too.
I recall back in the day playing against a N Wonders hall team whose starters were T. Bell, J. Hunt, T. Hannon, T. Graves & M. Cobb. Yes, all football players , but excellent ballers too.
Forget the walk-ons, in the pre - Magic era, that group would have given the starters a decent game.
