And you know him well enough to misspell his name? I can attest that I have never been recruited by him.
I do, however, believe he is and has represented MSU with a high level of class. If that comes off as an average recruiter, it is a poor representation of the environment. Didn't State have some pretty solid talent when he was here?
I also just think it is funny that the OP thinks this is an original idea and passes it off as inside info.
Throwing Sh&! at the wall.
who are you
Shumur High School, Shurmur, Illinois, 60062
Lol Sorry I spent my time talking to the man not reading how he spells his name. I don't understand why you are taking offense to my opinion either because I never said that he was a bad recruiter just that he is an average recruiter compared to other coaches that I had associations with. As far as his football knowledge I think he would be a huge upgrade.
Actually I have no issue with you. It's refreshing that you post with a level of insight here. I just have witnessed this topic surface for at least 6 weeks now with seemingly no real basis.
I have no idea if he would move back to East Lansing. It just appears unlikely as he was passed up for the HC position and is at a point in his career that doesn't seem to fit as an OC at State.
To me the real issue are the people pretending to know more than they do.
Well where did you wind up signing then? And why not MSU?
While we're at the "I know more than you" talk......I happen to know Pat personally myself (having been a former football manager and administrator at MSU during Pat's time on campus) and have seen him interact with coaches, players, recruits etc. on a very sincere genuine basis. Trust me, the guy knows how to recruit.
Maybe it was Pat's sincere personality and not one of a used car salesman that didn't impress you as an 17 year old?

meh, the guy gave his honest opinion and now you guys have to act butthurt and nitpick him about it....give it a rest. Shurmur isn't coming here even IF the OC job was open: which it isn't.
I'm asking Kindsmoker (politely), let's let him answer.
Really wasn't intended to nitpick. And I think you are right.
I was thinking about the number of MSU players who went on to a head coaching position in the NFL. I can only think of Hank Bullough, Shurmur and possibly Frank Kush?
"Spartan women were known for their natural beauty... They were notorious for their razor-sharp wit and outspoken natures."
Then a challenge it was.......and Kindsmoker provided a great personal account on the topic I questioned.
He knows Pat, and I know Pat (very well actually), and when given the opportunity to defend an old friend, I won't apologize.
"You make sure when you come, you got a little blood in your eye, a little blood in your eye, a little fire in your belly. We there yet?"
I'm not really interested in getting into identities, I was just adding my own personal experience to the discussion. The only way I could see him coming back as an OC is if he is named the head coach in waiting. Have a Happy New Year everybody!!
I can't believe people honestly think he would go from a NFL HC to a college OC
Rogue Leader= Obese coward who didn't attend MSU and has no college degree
He didn't exactly set the NFL world on fire with his head coaching gig so why not be a college OC. A job is a job.
If he takes a year off from the NFL, maybe MSU could hire him as a consultant in the off season, to try to fix the offense, assuming Roushar is back.
Its five o'clock somewhere.
I think this would be great for everyone. And seemingly more realistic.
Staudt was pushing for Shurmur for MSU head coach when we fired John L. I thought it was a terrible idea, since he'd never been a head coach. I figured somehow Perles was involved in getting Shurmur's name out there...
This...Coach in waiting. The guy has to rehabilitate his name and reputation somewhere. Why not back in familiar territory? As the OP I admit to "sh*% on the wall" but this is the RCMB where there is layers of it.
I don't know about that..he recruited Muhsin Muhammed, Derick Mason, Tony Banks, Sedrick Irvin and Bill Burke.
Wait, this thread is serious? Lollllllll.
As of this morning there are going to be 7 NFL teams starting coaching staffs from scratch plus several others who will be seeking a new OC. A proven NFL OC like Shurmur will be getting $1M+/yr and MSU isn't going to be paying that kind of money.
Yep. He has a great opportunity to get a NFL OC gig right now, unless he just wants some time off. Don't know if he had a buy out.
I coached those summer camps with Pat. When coach Perles landed me an athletic director job I once told Pat he didn't need to even help me. Pat said, yes he did, you're a Spartan. Just cool as hell guy. Any time he was in the Detroit area if he was near he'd stop in for five minutes even if we had no recruits at all. Just to say how's the family and keep a relationship. Nothing but class Pat was. I imagine he still is. I always noticed how he would let visiting coaches talk about themselves and ask them more questions about family etc. Thing is, I believe he had a sincere interest in them.
