ESPNAndyKatz: Just filed to ESPN: Sources: Northwestern has fired Bill Carmody.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
If true, too bad. Struck me as a class guy.
What are they expecting at Northwestern??
a tournament appearance, ever, would be my guess.

Came here to post. Just said on ESPN.
To maybe make the tourney once every fifteen years.
It's a low bar in Evanston, and carmody was able to consistently limbo under it.
Probably the least attractive BB coaching position in the B1G
My seats at SS. My driveway in winter.
Maybe Fitz can coach Bball too?

If Pat Fitzgerald can guide NW's football team to the type of success they've had the past few years, then Carmody(Or whoever their new bball coach will be), should be able to make the tournament at least every few years
I'm surprised NW never focused on basketball the way Duke has - same type of school.

Expect Izzo to comment on this......he wont be happy about that. Carmody is a good coach, and a good guy. NW is lucky to have Fitzgerald. Also lucky he is a good coach.
With that being said, NW hoop is an awful job. Every conference home game is basically a road game. You can gimmick it up and win with mirrors easier in football than you can basketball. He has had some really bad luck over the past few years as well. Too bad.
Several prominent hoop writers have tweeted that it is Chris Collins' job to turn down. Collins is a north Chicago suburbs guy.
Hey gHost. OT season is coming. Please tell me you have some good plans?
That very well could have been one of the factors. But you also can make the argument that Fitzgerald is the best coach they've ever had.
“Kansas may wind up number one in these polls, but that would be so unfair to Texas...” -- Len Elmore, 2/13/11
jeez you are stupid. Take a look at the roster for the last decade and see if they tried that.
About time IMO
"If you're worried about Wolverine fans, just move to Pasadena. You'll never have to deal with 'em."
Wow. Not a surprise, but I look long and hard at K disciples. Outside of Brey, for the most part, they have been less than average. Amaker had an ok year or two at Seton Hall, sucked at UM, and had done nicely at Harvard.
Izzo to Northwestern
Then he should get two more years.
They will be Duke in no time.
Tough break for Carmody. Seems like every year was gonna be "the year" for Northwestern, but key injuries set them back. Coble, Crawford, etc.
"RCMB: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainry." - some dude from MgoBlog
They will finish 12th before they make the tournament.
I would think it is a much better job than PSU.
He very well might be, but as far as NW goes, it's still far more difficult to attain the success their football program has had the last 4 or 5 years than it is to just make the NCAA Tournament once
I doubt that's a big deal in this case. Collins' ties to Illinois high school basketball are probably as big a factor as anything else. Brey's also been a significant success at a school somewhat similar to NU.
Whether or not they can get them into NW academically will be the big question for any coach.
Northwestern football had some history prior to Fitz. Granted they were god-awful for about 25 years but Pat Fitzgerald didn't turn water in to wine.
