Pick your top 5 MSU Spartan Basketball Players at each position (PG, SG, SF, PF, C). You can rank them any way you want (IE: via their MSU contribution, most talented, NBA potential, etc), just be clear and consistent from position to position.
I included a list of former players. I don't know if my candidate list is deep enough for some to choose five so feel free to add any missing players. And if I listed names at incorrect positions, feel free to move them.

Can I trade you nix for ballinger on the eligible list?
Payne rising rapidly. He plays rest of the season like he has the last two months and his senior season and he is forsure on top 5 list.
Lorbek. Is Lorbek the right answer?

Magic, Respert, Smith, Hutson and Draymond. May not be the best five gut for a starting 5 it's the best.
Shutout to Travis Walton
Took into effect college career (lenght), team success, and leadership.
I also gave an "imcomplete" to every current player, so they were not included from the start. I personally think it is unfair to do that before their career is finished.
Cleaves at the 1, Respert at the 2, Smith at the 3, Magic at the 4 and Davis (possibly Randolph) at the 5.
2. Steve Smith
3. Draymond Green
4. Greg Kelser
5. Zach Randolph
Why only Jud and Izzo?
No Johnny Green?
Rogue Leader= Obese coward who didn't attend MSU and has no college degree
PGs: Magic, Mateen, Kalin, Skiles, Snow
SGs: Respert, Harris, Smith, Brown, Summers
SFs: Mo Pete, JRich (NBA SG, but more of a SG/SF combo in college), Ager, Dawson, Anderson
PFs: Green, Kelser, Morgan, Payne, Suton
Cs: Randolph, Hutson, Davis, Nix, Smith
He was probably the best shutdown defender we've had for a guard. He was a #2 guard, right? He played when Neitzel and then Lucas were here or is my memory failing me?
Kalin ahead of Skiles?
Any list without Jim Sarkine is just asinine.
Dominating Press Conferences Since 2007
Jud and Izzo have national championships, raised the program to new levels and I just felt that most on RCMB never saw players from prior eras when they were old enough to evaluate the talent.
Michigan State University is the university of Michigan
I have a pretty easy time with the top 3 at each position...
1: Earvin Johnson, Mateen Cleaves, Scott Skiles
2: Steve Smith, Shawn Respert, Sam Vincent
3: Jason Richardson, Morris Peterson, Alan Anderson
4: Draymond Green, Greg Kelser, Raymar Morgan
5: Zach Randolph, Andre Hutson, Jay Vincent
...but then it gets tough. I feel I tend to underestimate players like Lucas, Neitzel, Bell, Brown, Ager, Granger, Suton, Lorbek, A.Smith and Nix.
PS: Harris' potential to move on this list is off the charts with every year he stays. I'd love to see him in the back court next year with Appling and Payne as seniors.
PG Magic, Mateen, S. Smith, Skiles, Snow
SG Respert, Bell, Brown, Lucas, Harris
SF Kelser, Mo Pete, JRich, Ager, Dawson
PF Green, Granger, Hutson, Payne, Morgan
C A. Smith, Suton, Randolph, Willis, Davis
All scrub team: Cherry, Ishbia, Ianni, #44, Byrd
This sounds super gay (NTTAWWT), but I have a sentimental attachment to Kalin, as he was the best player I saw during my years in the Izzone. He was lightning fast and a cold-blooded assassin in crunch time... no single MSU athlete gave me as many joys as Kalin Lucas during my years at MSU.
Paul Davis? At the 5? C'mon dude.
You must be Paul Davis.
These kinds of threads happen about twice a year, and while you can argue for a lot of players there always seems to be one that is just ludicrous in popularity.
Dawson? As in Brandon? On 2 people's lists so far, including ahead of Alan Anderson? Jesus Christ, people. You pick someone who isn't in the top 5 on his own team over the best player on a Final Four team.
Anyway, i guess i'll play along:
PG: Magic, Cleaves, Skiles, Neitzel, Snow (i'm not into POY cred for point guards. I'm into leaders.)
SG: Smith, Bell, Respert, Brown, Lucas (never really played like a pg),
Wing: MoPete, Anderson, JRich, Ager, Morgan
PF: Draymond, Kelser, Hutson, Vincent, Feick
Center: Willis, Smith, Davis, Suton, Ballinger
Appling has a shot at getting as high as 4th on the PG list. Harris if he stays who knows how high. Payne could be probably as high as 3rd on the PF list. Nix could probably make a case for being very high up the list if he is a bigtime factor in making another Final Four.
Feel bad for leaving off Daryl Johnson, Dwayne Stephens, Mark Montgomery, Chris Hill, Steigenga, Naymick, Q Brooks, Pig Miller, and TWalt, but for various reasons had to do it.

I built my 5 around who could best compliment Magic and who in their own right were one of MSU's best.
We have a winner
