Does anyone use prescription medication to help with concentration? If so, what medication do you use an what are the potential side effects? Have you seen an improvement in your concentration? Did the meds do what you wanted them to do?
Having a lot of trouble lately (last year or so) staying focused on the task at hand and have been giving medication some thought.
TIA for any info.
Adderall...it'll work, kind of zaps your personality, but makes you very focused and attentive.
Adderall is amazing! Use it for studying and your grades will be hella improved!
Do: See a psychiatrist for this kind of information.
Do not: Count on tRCMB for anything other than finding out what to ask a psychiatrist about for this kind of information.
Side effects from adderall: it takes away your appetite, u feel so 'in the zone' that u dont really have much of a personality, and can occasionally make ppl feel a little bit of palpitations, but if u beed to study hard for a week for a big test or midterm paper, it will work wonders.
Don't do it. Drugs for concentration are absurd.
I actually had one of my kids teachers in 2nd grade suggest this for my Son. I was pissed.
He is now in 8th grade, never needed it. Still doesn't.
Everything people have said about Adderall in this thread is absolutely true. I wouldn't prescribe it to a kid, but as an adult, Adderall was amazing for grad school.
Just don't use it to stay up all night finishing work the day before your final day of grad school, start drinking at 11:00 am the next day, and then smoke a ton of weed that night, still on zero sleep, with an engaged girl that you've had a crush on all year. Bad news.

In regards to personality, I have experienced the opposite effect when taking adderall. I will often engage in long conversations with people. I think you become more focused on whatever your doing, whether its writing a paper or chatting with friends
Adderall works wonders but me and pretty much everyone I've talked to have noticed feeling depressed during/after the come down. In the end, I never really find it worth it. Be careful with drugs, they can mess with your personality.
NZT-48 also works wonders, but the side effects can be deadly.
Cool story, bro.
No, seriously --- that is a helluva 24 hours!!
Draymond Green, Magic Johnson, and Oscar Robertson are the only players to have two triple-doubles in the NCAA Tournament.
Give L-Tyrosine (can be purchased at GNC) a shot for a couple weeks @ 1000mgs (normal dose). I have noticed a much better focus and sense of well being since I started taking it. Reports have indicated that its effects are more noticeable on people that are stressed, overworked and suffer from sleep deprivation. I fall into 2 of those.
Good luck but I would turn to prescription drugs as a last resort...think about the world before ADD, ADHD, etc. How did your parents, grandparents, great grandparents etc. manage to prosper. Things are overblown these days and exaggerated by our poor eating habits and lifestyles.
"On 4th and inches I'll take the whiskey drinkers over the milk drinkers any day"
To address your last statement of how did our grandparents do it, etc...... I have thought quite a bit about this, and to sum up my feelings succinctly.... the world is nowhere near the same as it was back then.
Email, 24 hour availability, Computers, Efficiency, Globalization, Do more with less are all factors that have changed significantly.... How many type A personalities existed back then? competition in the workplace is tough with more and more people getting higher education...... Apples and Oranges my friend
I agree that poor eating habits and lifestyle contribute significantly, but for some, those things don't really help enough.
I am seriously tempted to try something. I am 35 and feel burned out and disinterested in work..... If I can pop a pill, that has minimal side effects, and do a better job of supporting my family.... I'm game..... And this comes from someone who won't take advil for a headache.... I hate pills and any form of medication, this should be an indication that things ain't right for me, not that I am looking for an easy way out....
Who knew there was a comedown after taking amphetamines?
Addreall is some dangerous stuff if you like it too much.
my name is phillip.
I down a 5 hour extra strength and that seems to do okay. But I take them way too much.

ECA stack of any brand. Bonus, you'll want to beat everyone up. Really though I'm fairly certain I'm ADHD and taking those keeps me focused and getting shit done. Helped me pass the first part of my CMA exam in June.
my advice, stay away from the pills. i hear they have camps for concentration though...

Concerta is an alternative to Adderall. Similar side effects, some can be positive though like weight loss and works as an antidepressant because it is a stimulant. Concerta is longer lasting (therapeutic effect lasts ~8 hours) and when the medicine is wearing off, it is a slower action. Adderall tends to be a "pull the plug" where Concerta is gradual. My personality sucked before taking it so I haven't noticed a difference there.
DO NOT TAKE IT BEFORE WATCHING MSU FOOTBALL. Your heart will be working triple time.
This could be said about everything seatbelts, safety guard chainsaws, airbags, cell phones, indoor plumbing, modern medicine...
Educated civilizations evolve ya dig?
Learn to meditate. it will improve your focus and creativity and doesn't have negative side effects.
Here is just one study that has show that meditation improves concentration and focus
The seemingly nonsensical Zen practice of could help free the mind of distractions, new brain scans reveal.
Pics of engaged girl?
Adderall is severely over prescribed. It will turn you into a zombie and never let your kids take it.
If you can't concentrate try a few natural ways first.
1. Get more sleep
2. Eat healthier foods
3. Workout 3 times a week
