whoever wins the mac championship game is going to have a great shot at a BCS spot..... especially if it is Kent State... but the biggest obsticle may will be boise state...
in last weeks BCS standings Boise were 22, Kent state were 23.... but the 8 teams in front of them in the standings all lost....
so all they need to do is get to number 16.... and be top mid major.....
Top mid-major ahead of a major conference champ and in top 16. The first part is assured now thanks to the Big East's implosion.
Great respect here for NIU football - but I just have them bookmarked to follow the building of a bball program from ashes. Will take awhile, but they be on the rise.
CBS' BCS projection has Kent State at 18 and NIU at 20 this week. It would be easier for Kent State to move, but NIU could also get a boost by knocking them off in the MAC championship game. It's funny that the MAC championship is on Friday night. I can't imagine that they ever thought that that there would be a potential BCS berth on the line.
College football polls and rankings at CBSSports.com include the AP Top 25 College Football Poll, Coaches Poll, BCS Rankings and CBSSports.com's own college football poll.
Boise State is 15th, NIU is 18th, and Kent State is 19th in the new Coaches Poll.
If my math is right, Kansas State and Stanford wins would pretty much lock in either Boise or one of the MAC teams into the BCS top 16.
Kent State is 17th in the BCS standings, Boise State is 20th, and NIU is 21st. #16 UCLA was beaten handily at home by Stanford yesterday and will play them again this weekend for the Pac-12 championship. Texas could theoretically jump with a win, but they're playing Kansas State. Basically, if Stanford takes care of business against UCLA, Kent State or (possibly) NIU would probably be headed to a BCS game.

Sad year for college football.
I'm not sure if Northern Illinois gets in if they win the MAC. In this case, Boise State will have to lose, and then of course UCLA and Texas.
Wow... Big East football is disgusting
It will tougher for them, sure, but they would have a quality win over Kent State. That would probably give them a boost.

Right, but I'm basically just asking if they would actually jump five spots in this scenario? I'm not so sure the Coaches and Harris voters would allow that to happen.
Oh well, we'll find out.
Pot meet kettle...
Thank God Ohio State beat Michigan. There's a possibility we would have dealt with that shit going to a BCS game again.
I would totally go to support the Huskies!!

I'd love to see a Florida vs Kent State Sugar Bowl. I would bet on Kent State.
I wouldn't. Kent state can score and Florida can go for long stretches without putting up points, but florida just beat florida state and has one loss on the season in a much better league. Florida never overwhelmed me with their talent or ability, but you have to think that the number three team in the country would be able to handle a pretty good team in Kent State
Down BIG> Up Big East
"losing Caleb Benenoch is a blow that Dantonio will never recover from. Izzo has lost it as well. Hoke and Beilein own the state."
Let's say that NIU and Boise are in the top 16, but Boise is ranked higher than NIU. Can they select NIU over Boise to gain the Chicago market for the game?
They have to take the higher ranked team I believe.
Sounds like another year of shitty BCS games.

My point was that it's tough to sit in judgment of other conferences when our CCG is 7-5 wisky vs 10-2 Nebraska.

Not when it's the big east.
Whatever, the big east won't have an auto tie in after next season, as it should be
FYI, there's a 6-6 team in the ACC title game. The Big 10 isn't the only weak league.
