Now that conference lay is upon us... How does everyone here think the power rankings should look in Men's Basketball?
My opinion (based on SOS, and road games played).
1. Indiana(12-1)(Need better defense on the wing/perimeter)
2. MSU (11-2)(Beat Kansas, Miami is 7-1)
3. scUM (12-0)(Weak opponents and no inside game)
4. Minnesota (12-1)(Can they keep it up?)
5. Illinois (12-1)(live by the 3, die by it)
6. OSU (9-2)(no depth)
7. Iowa (11-2)(They have talent)
8. Wisconsin (8-4)(Gritty defense, solid flopping)
9. Northwestern (8-4)(They always get it done, could move up to tier 2)
10. Penn State (6-4)(Faced a devastating injury)
11. Nebraska (8-3)(Cupcake schedule)
12. Purdue (5-6)(Lost to EMU)
Looks about right. OSU could prpob be tier 1....though i agree with your assesment
Kansas State, NC State, and Pitt are all good teams. Michigan has some quality wins.
As much as it hurts to say this, scUM has looked like the best team in the conference so far. Their lack of inside game is made up for by the fact that Burke is the best pick-and-roll PG in the country, so their stiffs like Morgan and McGary end up with wide open dunks.
5. (tie) OSU
5. (tie) Illinois
Tier 4 - "Holy shit, you're bad at this"
11. Penn State
You're a homer / hater if you don't have Michigan at #1. They haven't played any great teams but have looked dominant in every game. I'm not saying MSU won't be better at some point in the season, but right now UM looks fucking legit.
I don't see how you can objectively put us at #2 ahead of UM
Two of those were in Madison Square Gardens. They won the NIT. You may be able to predict the future (surely this will make you wealthy) but right now Michigan is undefeated with a strength of schedule similar to MSU's.
MSU's only road win is against Bowling Green
Trying to borrow your tier system...
Purdue is flat-out awful this season. Nebraska and Penn State will be exposed repeatedly during conference play.
From tier 3, Wisconsin SHOULD make the tournament but that's far from guaranteed at this point. Iowa has a realistic shot as well. Northwestern will be talked up all season and miss out on a bid once again. Nobody will be surprised by this.
Of the teams in tier 2, I think we have the best chance to compete for a conference title. The other three teams have some real talent, but they definitely are lacking in some key areas. This MSU team has a ton of potential, they just haven't gotten there yet. OSU has a lot of talent but Matta only plays six guys. Illinois is playing well for a new coach but can be beaten by a team that makes them shoot poorly from outside. Minnesota has to prove that they can get through a full conference season without imploding.
Indiana is clearly the class of the conference, and Michigan isn't too bad either. RIGHT NOW both teams are better than we are, but I think our ceiling is definitely higher than Michigan's, not sure about Indiana.
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
Skipping the tier system, not projecting, putting hatred aside:
1. scUM (12-0)
2. Indiana (12-1)
3. OSU (9-2)
4. Minnesota (12-1)
5. Illinois (12-1)
6. MSU (11-2)
7. Iowa (11-2)
8. Wisconsin (8-4)
It's get hard from here...big dropoff since Crawford for NU and wassisface on PSU got hurt. I'll say
9. Purdue (5-6)
10. Northwestern (6-4)
11. Penn St. (6-4)
12. Nebraska (8-3)
Agree with SCum talk. I think B1G will expose them but right now they look best in conference.
Wisky (not really but Bo Ryan is evil and they do kinda suck balls this year so far)
Also, the above list will be completely jumbled halfway thru B1G season.
4. Michigan State
6. Ohio State
12. Penn State
"RCMB: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainry." - some dude from MgoBlog
I'll go with:
3-12. The rest
So is the OP an idiot, or just a UM troll reverse trolling? I cant tell.
MSU hasent looked great but by the end of the year I see this way.
They lost to Duke, we lost to Miami. Transitive property does not work.
3. Ohio State
6. Michigan State
7-12 The rest don't matter
Truth is the Big Ten is really deep this year and I think that my 1-6 teams are as good as each other. As we say in the B1G, nothing a gimme game in the conference except for Penn State
Purdue at or near the cellar on everyone's list. Hard to imagine how hard they have fallen. And it couldn't have happened to a shittier fan base for all the shit and accusations they hurled at Izzo when he landed Dawson. Karma is a bitch.
Just looked at the downvotes on my post and wondered if i was being really stupid or something, so i checked Sagarin ratings out of curiosity. They're almost exactly in line with what i posted, each team. Is this the right time to use: haters gotta hate? I'm not really up on the b.s...
Illinois is going to fold like a tent in B1G play. Minnesota might too we'll see.
2. Suck my dick
Michigan State is better than Illinois and OSU. Minnesota, IU, and SCum are all good. This MSU team will finish no lower than 4th in conference. Keep in mind that Minnesota, IU, and SCum have not played a schedule anywhere near MSU to this point and they do not have Izzo. My prediction is MSU either finishes as conference champion or in second place.
No reasonable person would say that UM isn't one of the two best teams in the B1G
I think you have 4 teams with a shot at the B1G title so I would lump those in the top tier.
(in this order as of now)
Tier 1 Indiana, UM, MSU, OSU
Tier 2 Minn, Illinois, Wisconsin
Tier 3 NW, Iowa
Tier 4 Nebraska, PSU, Purdue
After MSU's win last night, I'm liking what I see. But I think Indiana is going to be very tough. I'd have to look at schedules, but Indiana is unbeatable at home, not sure what their road games look like.
