Anyone can come up with a conspiracy theory after the fact and mold it to fit what happened, but sometimes I like to try and call them going forward.
Last year we saw Delaney work his magic. UM didn't have to play at Wisconsin and MSU was playing on the "road" at the Breslin against the other contenders. The refs tried to get UM a win at the Breslin, and it isn't often that you see a team gets its ass kicked in every phase of the game and somehow have a free throw advantage, unless you watched Wisconsin at the Breslin last night too. As we all know, MSU was a much better team than UM last year, and all the refs were able to do was turn a horrific ass beating into a 10-point game that was never in doubt.
Fast forward to the OSU game at the Breslin last year. We are once again kicking another contender's ass in every phase of the game, but Delaney in his desperation gave OSU an unthinkable 18-4 free throw advantage in the first half. As I said before, it isn't very often that you see a team completely dominate another team and yet somehow, inexplicably, the team that is getting trucked "earns" many more free throw attempts.
Then disaster struck, Dawson goes down, Ohio State finally wakes up and says "Unleash the Kraken" to Buford. The refs turned what should have been a 20-point blowout before halftime into a game that kept OSU in striking distance and the Dawson injury was just what they needed to complete the deal and OSU pulls an ill-gotten win out at the last second shooting a contested jump-shot over Appling instead of Dawson. /end run-on sentence
UM wins their first title since the Ed Martin days, OSU and UM get to be promoted as Big Ten Champions, and MSU still gets a 1-seed in the NCAAs. Delaney wins.
In football season, Delaney orchestrates a Nebraska win-streak using blatant ref cheating to get them into their promised Big Ten Championship Game. We also saw Delaney cheat to get OSU into a BCS game, costing MSU a Rose Bowl, but at least that one kinda blew up in his face as paying the piper later cost him a shot at the BCS title game.
Now we have this year's basketball season. On one hand I would say that Delaney, in his love for "return to glory" stories, would want Indiana to win this outright, and on the other hand he might prefer his babies to get a share. It his hard to say, Indiana has violated the spirit of basketball in many games, and on several occasions the refs have been complicit in this endeavor. However, I think that in the end he would prefer a nice 4-way tie, a "return to glory" for UM and a title for OSU.
I hope Indiana plays well against UM, like we did against UM and OSU at the Breslin last year, or against Nebraska in football this season, forcing Delaney's hand and yet again exposing his cheating ways.
BTW, have you watched Delaney? Last year, I watched him in person, gleefully handing Wisconsin the Big Ten Title trophy after the Big Ten Championship game, saying "Wow! What a game!" He followed that up by somberly handing over the Big Ten Tournament Title to MSU in basketball.
I fully expect Indiana to get manhandled by the refs. 4 on 5 basketball, but that is what you get when one team, composed of only one player, Trey Burke, and 3 zebras join forces to beat Indiana. Hey, at least we will get a share of the title out of it!
What is this I don't even...
I think you might be looking into this a bit too much.
Ha! That is a picture of my cousin Jimmy. Dude's setup is weak. He thinks that stuff he has is better than mine, but every body knows it isn't. He doesn't even fold the tinfoil the right way.
I think you just spent 1000 words doing nothing but bitch.
Had the same conversation with the guys from my office at lunch. Indiana is going to get flopped into oblivion because a 4 way tie pushes the narrative of the best conference being so competative and makes the BTT more interesting.
I think you're onto something here
Not sure. Maybe he is suggesting Delaney is willing to enter Izzo's dreams to ensure MSU doesn't win the Big Ten Tournament.
But that is just my own speculation.
B1G refs are just incompetent. I refuse to believe there is any sort of conspiracy. If any of you honestly believe that, why watch?
Go hug your kid/wife/significant other/dog
You stay outta my personal life!
Although I believe there is no fix in place, I fear you may be right about the fix being in! Big Ten will be more likely to land two #1 seeds if there are 4 champions. All four champs would be in the hunt for a #1 seed by reaching championship game of BTT.
Let's hope the unthinkable doesn't happen Sunday night at the Brez. I wouldn't think Delany would want that, though.
I don't think there's a fix, but I agree with your premise that Delaney is an assbag.

All I know is that in Delaney's senior year at UNC, they lost their last three games. It looks like they lost to UVA in the ACC Tournament followed by a loss to the mighty Mannhattan Jaspers in the first round of the NIT. He was a lousy player on a lousy team. How he conned his way into the Big Ten job is something I would like to know. It was the 69-70 season, you can Google it.

That's Crazy Jim.
But +1 for the write up.
Sometimes I experience moments of clarity. This probably isn't one of those moments, but as long as Indiana comes to play, I expect to see Delaney's hand forced, much like during Draymond's final game in the Breslin last season.
