That west division is a joke. Whatever!

You can't be scared to play the best. We can whine about it or go out and recruit kids that can make MSU compete every year.
Me too. Jim Delany is the B1G commissioner's version of a Don Canham. Until he and his ilk are completely gone from power in the conference, we are going to continue to take it up the ass as a member of this conference.
"I love March!" - Tom Izzo
Nebraska and UW will have a chance to play in Pasadena for years to come now. What a joke these divisions are.
This is bullshit. You can say this will help recruiting, but have you honestly looked at how we recruit? We don't pressure recruits, we let them make their own decisions. We can say we play a tough schedule, but given the opportunity to play for Nebraska/Wisky in the B1G CC every year or have a "tough" schedule & play for us and never make a conference championship game, which would you choose? Honestly, get with it. We got screwed here. I'm a 22 year old die hard Spartan but If we couldn't make it in the past 20+ years, why do you think it will be any different now? One or two years with this alignment will kill everything Dantonio has worked for over his time hear.
That's ridiculous. There are about 10 ways to organize the top 6 team to balance things out and instead they put the top 3 in the same division. Penn State won't be far behind once they're recovered from the scandal.
We were going to play Michigan every year no matter what. So it really came down to would we rather be in a division with OSU/PSU or Nebraska/Wisconsin. While Neb/Wisky might be a tad bit easier, I think the benefits of being able to recruit east, marquee matchups with OSU and PSU every year make it a much better deal for us.
Sack up nancies. We're going to be fine. We never were a dominant program (minus the 60s) and its unlikely we ever will be. But we'll be competitive in this division.
Boys, I may not know much, but I know chicken shit from chicken salad. -- Lyndon Johnson
Yes, MSU does have to play Michigan every year, but that would be 1 of the 3 crossover games. The chance of having Wisconsin or Nebraska as a crossover would be higher than getting Ohio State or Penn State.
Not a huge deal, but still enough to be taken into account.
Fair point, but we also have an advantage in that the other 3 teams in the division are the worst programs in the conference.
Also, I don't necessarily think its a guarantee PSU returns to the level of program they were pre-Sandusky. It'll take years for them to recover from scholarship sanctions, they'll have been out of the national spotlight for years, further hurting them in recruiting.
Will MSU ever be at OSU's level? No, but they never have. Can MSU, Michigan, and maybe PSU one day provide competition to OSU and qualify for the Championship game a few times a decade? No question. Crossover scheduling will be the key a lot of years.
Any chance these are for basketball too or are we gonna get rutgers and psu once a year.
Edit: the west is the shittier basketball division too. What the hell is this?

Why do you think Delaney conjured this load of crap up? He doesn't care about the Big Ten, he cares about UM and OSU. He saw that the current setup benefited the whole conference at the expense of those two programs, and axed it as soon as he could. That man needs to go if this conference will ever be anything more than OSU's lapdog.
2014 possible schedule: 9 B1G games
09/13 - at Oregon
09/20 - Wyoming
09/27 - Eastern Michigan

Haters gonna hate!
Delaney cares about TV ratings and numbers that result in $$$ generated. That's why PSU and Nebraska got the invites to join the B1G in the first place. Whether we like it or not, fact is MSU football is on par with Wisconsin when it comes to generating TV audiences nationally and within the conference's BTN footprint.

Need another national championship in hoop. Now we are no longer the most recent champion in the conference or division.
Why do people not know the history of MSU...during the 1950's there was MSU and there was everyone else...Woody managed to avoid playing MSU for most of the first 8 years MSU was in the Big Ten. UofM seldom beat MSU post WW2 until Bo & Woody ganged up on MSU off the field.
Lurking on tRCMB since 1996
+ 1 for absolute truth in posting.
I'm aware of MSU's success in the 50s and 60s, but come on, that was over 50 years ago. It in no way applies to this situation. OSU and Michigan have been the dominant programs in the Big Ten the last 50 years. That's a simple fact.
We are so FUCKED in 2014.
Face it...segregation isn't coming back Trap. Duffy was able to take full advantage of the black pipeline sent to him by his friend Bear Bryant in Alabama. When segregation ended and the black athletes could finally play at schools down south, the pipeline to MSU ended...along with it's B1G dominance. Bo & Don Canham at UM beginning in 1969, along with Woody at O$U, changed the landscape of B1G football, and the conference as a complete entity has never been the same since. Jim Delany would like to keep this going this way forever too. God help MSU in this conference if the next commissioner is a Delany slappy.
What is the tiebreak scenario?
Plus, do you all think that Oklahoma State or Texas Tech were the ones whining about the old Big 12 South being so strong? Because that's what we're doing here.
I am probably too literal but when people say that MSU has never been at the level OSU or UofM it just seems to me they are not aware of the history of MSU and they should be as MSU was better than both for an extended period of time. To see this being used as an excuse to accept OSU & UofM continued favored status in the Big Ten by MSU supported just makes my stomach churn.
They also should know that it wasn't the end of segregation, which by the mid 60's had been over for awhile, which caused MSU to fall behind those programs. It was an active campaign by Bo & Woody to nail MSU to the cross which succeeded in major NCAA penalties to MSU for what would have been even then minor violations.
For some reason MSU scares OSU & UofM even today.
PSU is going to be losing to Villanova before their probation is done. No one will think they are a better program than State soon.
We didn't seem to have a problem when Saban was here and we beat Florida in 99 and the facilities were garbage compared to today. Bring in the stud recruiters and we will win.
