The article at the link describes some recent research on hits to the head and CTE; also has some images of brains of atheletes that have beed studied (Duersons, Boogards brains are shown)
Researchers found evidence of long-term degeneration in the brains of athletes, including John Mackey and Derek Boogaard, military veterans and others.
Jim Rome ripping it right now.
worth listening to.
If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day.
"what about cassandra perkins family? Did playing that game help HER family cope? I doubt it"
give em hell Jim.
The game and the incident are separate issues. As tragic and sad as this incident was, it was the right call to play the game.
That was just one quote among many things he is saying on the topic. His basic theme is that everyone has been spending the last few days talking about the condition of the other players on the team, and no one seems real concerned about the family of the girl that was murdered.
Dead 21 year old, shot 9 times, and all the national media wants to talk about it the tragedy of a football player killing himself. That is Rome's beef today.
Leading up to the incident...I responded to a post right after the incident claiming "another crazy person got a hand gun."
35,600 posts and counting since 09-09-2002. tRCMB Dead Pool Commissioner.
It should be everyone's beef. I didn't hear SHIT from anyone in the sports/football industry (except those referred to in this thread) talk about anything but Belcher and the "tragedy". The death/suicide of Belcher isn't a tragedy.....that was what should have happened.....only in a MUCH more painful and long suffering manner. Screw him.
Why did Jovan Belcher kill girfriend, self, leave orphan infant ... and why are Kansas City Chiefs still playing on Sunday? FOXSports.coms Jason Whitlock wants to know. Whitlock: After Belcher tragic murder-suicide, why are Chiefs playing?
Oh yeah...that's an excellent point. The way our media mobilizes their opinions and messages on these types of high profile incidents is bogus.
I'm not surprised that Whitlock puts his stupidity on display for everyone to read.
I'm wondering if Whitlock will write a story about every other business in this country that kept their doors open after an employee died in an incident that had nothing to do with the workplace. He won't write about those deaths because he is just as guilty of everything he accuses the NFL of being.
Recap from Fox Sports points out the following
"over along the wall stood the empty locker that once belonged to Jovan Belcher, his jersey still hanging from a hook."
Chiefs linebacker Andy Studebaker. ''I've been telling people, Jovan was like a brother to us. His family was family to us. Our hearts go out to them, man, and the game maybe took our heads off it for a while - it brought us closer as a team today, I think - but it's never going to be easy.''
Not one flipping reference to the fact the "brother" just killed a GIRL, and his baby's mother, by shooting her 9 times. Everything I have read is like this.
Chicago QB Jay Cutler has been sacked 9 times in tonight's game against the Giants. In the first half.
Who more appropriate to express this outrage than some of Chicagoland's most beloved residents?
"Those fans are in for a world of hurt...they've never gone up against a premium message board fan base like ours."-Vim
That's good that Rome is burning on that angle.
On the other hand, whenever anyone tries to send a text message or email to the show about Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman's perspective, they usually get Triple U'ed and blocked. For some reason.
Good for Rome. The girl, the VICTIM, her family and her child all seem to be lost in this.
Agreed. This in some ways reminds me of Penn State where people are celebrating a terrible person. People close to him (players, etc..) are forgetting the horrible things he did and paying tribute.
I agree those were all good decisions.
But what about a sticker for the girl that was killed. She was an employee of the team.
Rome's a day late and a dollar short. Tom Jackson was saying this yesterday. Also, I don't see many people in the media mourning over the player's death. The stories I've seen are about the effects on Crennel and Pioli and others who witnessed the suicide.

Think about how this affects the players. One day he's their teammate, the next he's dead and there's an empty locker. And the circumstances behind his death and his irrational behavior make it even sadder.
This doesn't mean the players are ignoring the death of the girlfriend. Belcher's death is more immediate to them.
Tom Jackson was balls, and hit it right on the money.
Jim Rome's radio show is M-F. Hard for him to make those points on a Sunday.
I have read a_lot of junk about the team, and how they are affected. Very little about the gf. I think it is starting to change, but it came much too slowly.
I agree with this, and you have great points. But the girl has been left behind in most of the conversation. It is unfortunate.
Or the one calling for baseball bat control?
"A man who suspected that his wife of 20 years had cheated on him allegedly bludgeoned her to death with a baseball bat yesterday — as their two teenage children frantically called 911 from another room of the family’s Staten Island house."
Since both Jason Whitlock and Munchkin Bob Costas make their livings because of sports, let them both mull that one over for a while.

Or the one calling for breast control?
German lawyer claims 38DD girlfriend tried to smother him to death with her breasts
Franziska Hansen, 33, is reportedly charged with “attempted murder with a weapon” after her lawyer boyfriend claimed she tried to smother him while pretending it was a sex game
Tim Schmidt (pictured) from Germany has accused his girlfriend of , claiming she tried to smother him with her breasts and pretend it was a sex game.
Question authority. Power to the people
Just our luck we would have to play them.. I do have to say, those men were playing on emotion, and it showed on the field.
I hear what you guys are saying about wanting to read more about what happened to the girl and how her family is affected. But if you're going to sports sites for that info, what did you expect?
