For a 2013 1st rounder and a conditional 3rd or 4th rounder in 2014
Bucs sign Revis to 6 yr/96 million dollar deal (zero guaranteed)
Good deal for the Jets, they weren't making the playoffs this year anyway and they got the 9th and 13th picks in the draft this year plus they avoided having to give Revis a record deal
The New York Jets have traded star cornerback Darrelle Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 13th...
Rogue Leader= Obese coward who didn't attend MSU and has no college degree
stupid by the bucs
Really smart (for once) by the Jets to fleece a 1st rounder out of this
4 states of being in the cannabis society ------------
Which one are you??
Yea, if he's really getting 6 years and $96M out of Tampa, good trade for the Jets. They're not a contender until they get a new QB (probably in the 2014 draft) so this year's basically a throwaway. And 1st round picks are cheap now, they'll sign the #9 and #13 for less total than they'd be paying Revis.
Good trade imo.
Well, the Jets didn't fuck up for once. Props.
Bad trade by Bucs.
Why are all of your calling this a bad trade for the Bucs? This is a great trade. Jets should have gotten way more picks.
Instead, Bucs get the league's top corner, who feels good enough about his knee (and has passed 2 physicals) to accept a contract with NO money guaranteed. If he works out, the Bucs have a very solid secondary. If it doesn't work out, they cut him. Sure they're paying a lot but remember that NOTHING is guaranteed.
This is universally being lauded as a great trade for the Bucs, Jets should have gotten way more out of this than a 1st and a conditional 2014 pick.
The Bucs fans are all tipping their trailers in celebration
The Jets get 2 picks plus save all the money by not re-signing Revis
The Jets aren't going anywhere in the next couple years but they have 2 top 15 picks next Thursday to build off of
If the Jets draft as they have been lately, then the Bucs fleeced the Jets. If the Jets had been able to draft with any competency in the last several years, they wouldn't look to be about the worst team in the league on paper right now.
The ole "We'll suck anyway" mantra.
The bottom line is that the Jets gave away one of the best players in the league for a pittance. The Jets will suck for a lot more than 2 years if they continue to get fleeced in trades. You can't give away proven elite talent, and if you do, you had better get a ton of picks for it.
Look at what the Redskins gave up to draft RGIII. And he wasn't nearly as proven as Revis.
And to say the Jets are doing it to save money makes no sense either. They just proved that they don't want to pay elite players top dollar. If by some miracle they draft someone as good as Revis, they'll watch him leave via free agency in 3 or 4 years anyway.
