No expert on Xs and Os but I do know coaching 18-22 year olds is completely different than diagnosing plays for NFL vets in their 20s and 30s.
Roushar may be exactly what you say - a great Xs and Os guy. That doesn't make him a good college OC - communications, player development and recruiting are all infinitely more important than understanding opposing D's and diagramming plays.
I think that I might go buy a goat on the way home and sacrifice it in light of this development. Can't hurt, right?!
So you were okay with the gimmicky unbalanced o-line bullshit that he threw out? That was a terrible coaching performance in a high-profile game. I don't care if it was non-conference.
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
Disagree. Nobody actually expects this dude to get the job. Have you seen that dweeb in a press conference? How good do you think he is in an interview? This is all just a tease. The best we can hope for is he gets kidnapped on the way back from New Orleans.
Pretty obvious? What has Mark "Tucked Under My Wing" Dantonio said or even hinted at that suggests he's going to do anything with The Roush? A change would have happened by now. This is waaaay late as far as these things go. Trust me, I'd deport the man if I could, but I'm resigned to the fact that nothing will change.
Plus one. This is just a teaser smokescreen. The guy is a dud and I suspect this is to show his name is out there for nfl gigs. Either it's put there by Roushar and his agent w the clear blessing of coach D or the saints are desperate.
If it was as a NFL Oline coach then maybe, but what would an NFL team want w a guy who hasn't coached running backs in recent college history?
Maybe I'm undervaluing the RB coach's value in the NFL, but as far as coaching goes, what can they teach NFL RB's about anything but what holes to hit and when? He knows blocking schemes from being an OL coach, maybe that's all the Saints are looking for.
Carthon probably has the best NFL pedigree, but he may not be happy as just a position coach. If you read NOLA.com though, the article is written like they think that's the way it'll go.
But as others have asked (and received no serious answer), if he does leave now that it's after NSD, who replaces him?
"When I was in school they told me practice makes perfect. Then they told me nobody's perfect. So I stopped practicing." --Steven Wright
@HondoCarpenter: Saints source just told me the earliest a decision on the new) coach would be made is FRI evening. Not expected then, but earliest.
Roushar did work with the Saint's Special Teams Coordinator, Greg McMahon while at University of Illinois. He has that going for him.
So you're saying there's a chance?
If you can do a half-assed job of anything, you're a one-eyed man in a kingdom of the blind.
- Kurt Vonnegut
He also worked with Sean Payton at Illinois in 96.
"If they want to mock us, I'm telling them it's not over. It will never be over here. It's just starting." - Mark Dantonio, 2007
It's all my fault guys. I couldn't find a live chicken last night for my sacrifice, so I just ordered a bucket of KFC instead.
That's all the effort you put in? Do you just not give a shit about MSU football or something?
Yep. I have no clue where Vargman comes up with this stuff.
Did you even watch the Nebraska and Notre Dame games in 2011?
Don't post poop!
Wouldn't have worked anyway, the football god only accepts goats
Now with a PhD in Applied Llama Physics...
I posted earlier as for replacements it would probably be Brad Salem (former HC and his own OC) if coach D stays in house then we can get an up and comer for the rb coaching spot or go get Reggie Mitchell who Coach D also has history w at Kansas and MSU.
Unless there is someone that Dantonio already would be comfortable with from a past place to step right in from the outside to be the OC, which I feel would be unlikely unless it was Jim Tressel even more unlikely.
The next OC and DC if we were to stay in house which is very likely are Salem and Mike Tressel.
I'd love to poach someone that was on Bielema's old Wisconsin staff, I think they are at Pitt now, correct? They ran some great B10 style offenses
Agree on Salem, less likely would be Dave Warner. Don't know about Reggie Mitchell though. Not sure I'd want him back.
Its five o'clock somewhere.
I would slaughter one bare handed if I thought it would help.
You sacrificed yourself, then. Well played.
Good summary from poster "loose stools" for sure!
No way this is going to happen. Stop hoping. Even if he leaves, the bad karma the board has been sending will probably make the spirits send someone worse.
Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, but Today is a gift and that is why its called the present.
