I did some research and crunched some numbers on Rutgers football this season to see what we could expect in 2014. I decided I would compare them to the Big Ten school most like them. I noticed that Rutgers' total team defense ranking was 14. MSU's is 7. Rutgers' team offense ranking is 96. MSU's is 94. So I decided to compare teams to stop people from saying "Rutgers plays in the Big East, so they are way worse than any Big Ten team.
Rutgers total offense: 96
Mich St. total offense: 94
Rutgers total defense: 14
Mich St. total defense: 7
The average offensive ranking of teams played by Rutgers: 67.7
The average offensive ranking of teams played by Mich St.: 66.7
The average defensive ranking of teams played by Rutgers: 69.1
The average defensive ranking of teams played by Mich St.: 47.3
MSU plays slightly tougher defenses (the difference between 47 and 69 is only 28 yards per game) but Rutgers scores more efficiently.
Mich St. has scored 23 TDs
Rutgers has scored 32 TDs
Mich St. scoring offense: 108
Rutgers scoring offense: 87
THESE ARE THE SAME TEAMS. Rutgers can just score more than MSU.
Can you just come out and say you are a Rutgers fan? This has been MSU's worst season in a long time, for Rutgers to suck, it's just commonplace.

Forget all that. Rutgers would currently be our highest-ranked team.

Worst in a "long time"
MSU has had two good seasons. MSU found the right coach. That was Schiano for Rutgers. These teams have been very similar over the past few years, and I expect both of them to finish about 8-4 or 9-3 during Rutgers first few years in the B1G
Your post is the visualization, in words, of a dog eating its own shit.
Rutgers was 4-8 in 2010. They've gone 9-1 this season by playing teams like Tulane and Howard. Play a B1G schedule and the ceiling is probably 8-9 wins in a good year.
Basketball season will be a bloodbath.
You obviously completely ignored the statistics that show that even though Rutgers has played an "easy schedule" average defense they face is only 28 yards a game worse than the average defense MSU plays. And the average offense they face is only 1 ranking lower than the average offense MSU plays.
What about scoring defense?
Fuck off, Nucky. Rutgers is a skanky school.

You're right, I did ignore them. Because one year of statistics is not enough to accurately compare programs. Look at strength of schedule this season. MSU is 30th, Rutgers is 62nd. Last season, MSU 17, Rutgers 60. In 2010, MSU 30th, Rutgers 60th. If we go further back, you see similar stuff.
Rutgers scoring defense: 4
Mich St. scoring defense: 10
How dare you, sir.
SOS is completely BS. Its totally biased to AP rankings. My stats are saying that if you play Louisiana Tech, you're going to have to stop an offense that puts up 520 yards of offense per game. That's a tough task. SOS ranking totally disregard LTU's top ranked offense because they aren't an inflated, over ranked SEC school.
Stupid thread. Who the hell cares about comparing statistics ? Rutgers football is irrelevant, and if we're not careful we might join them.
For the love of Trevor...™
Something tells me you know little about academic standings of universities, and many of the posters around here would not get into Rutgers....don't take it too personally....but a reasonably well educated person doesn't use the term F**k when speaking or writing in a public forum.
I meant scoring defense of the teams that Rutgers and MSU played
Go fuck yourself. And take Will Tieman with you.
I didn't calculate that. Should have. They are actually pretty even from the looks of it though. MSU has played 3 of the top 6, but has also played 108 EMU and 105 CMU. I would assume that the point differential in scoring defenses played against between the two is about 3 points per game. In favor of MSU

I applaud you all for bleeding green, but are you really arguing MSU is better than Rutgers this year? We lost at home to iowa. We're currently wondering if we can beat Minnesota. We're not good. And as good as our defense is, they've contributed to this disaster, too.
I'm glad Rutgers wasn't on the schedule this year. Especially the home schedule.
So in order to statistically defend Rutgers' play, you bring up the fact that they play in arguably one of the worst conferences? Got it. MSU is not a Big Least team. They only realized once the "group of five" started in 2014 that they were on the same field as the Sun Belt and chose the best suitor to bolster their strength of schedule.
Rutgers is like adding another Purdue to the B1G.
Rutgers won the very first college football game 6-4. Why would we not want this historic tradition added to the big?
Nobody's going to make the case that our SEASON is better than Rutgers'. We are saying that our program, and athletic department as a whole, is superior.
The school for the blind could score more
