This is one way to water down the series.
I did a quick search, if this has already been posted, feel free to delete.
Star Wars fans, admit it: you like scoundrels. And you’re about to get more of them in your life. Yesterday, The Walt Disney Co. unveiled plans to make a nu...
Now knowing what 1995 is like all over again! Thank you 247 technology!!
Meh, it only waters down the series for 30+ year olds who can't accept change and/or still live in their parent's basement with their Millenium Falcon poster over their bed. My 8 year old freaking loves the newer Star Wars movies and will love the spinoffs. That is who they are making them for.
Life day will never be the same, sorry Lumpy.
After episodes 1 and II, that's a good thing bro
Now with a PhD in Applied Llama Physics...
They are also doing a Yoda one.

I'm not a Star Wars fan boy. I grew up on the originals, which are obviously legendary.
I didn't like the latest trilogy much at all, but watched in the hopes that it would make me feel nostalgic. It ultimately just made me less of a Star Wars fan overall.
But, a movie on Han Solo or Boba Fett sounds great to me. Just leave out the Jar Jar Binks and the awful acting by whoever played the young Darth Vader and I'll be happy. (Note to Disney: Han Solo shoots first sometimes...and that's OK)
I saw fast and furious, had no desire to see any of the five sequels. The johnny depp pirate movies...same thing. Just because you watched a movie does not mean that you have to watch any sequels. If you dont think it will be good, dont watch it. Jeebus, it is like some people dont have real life problems.
Fast Five is pretty good actually compared to the rest.
I'd rather see the Thrawn Trilogy.
Although, the "Tales" books could be fun. Let a different director do each segment.
If a certain universe is good, make a bunch of spinoffs.

I'd like to see a movie from the KOTOR era as well.
I'd go see a Boba Fett film.
Yeah, seriously, the only character in cinematic history that might be able to give Dalton from Roadhouse a decent fight, he'd lose of course, but he might make Dalton break a sweat.
Boba Fett is bad ass, for some reason he is mine and many other fans favorite undeveloped Star Wars character. Just the badass get up he wears I guess.
yeah thats true
The new movies could suck, but it's no insult to the originals if they do. The geeks need to get over the notion that anyone will be able to reproduce the magic of the first three movies. They were legendary because nothing like them had been done before. There have been about 1000 movies like them since, so it's pretty much impossible to do something as big again.
The writers and directors they are apparently signing up for these things are promising. I'm guessing they'll be significantly better movies than Episodes 1-3. But nothing is going to be on par with the revolutionary nature of the originals.
Boba thought Dalton would be bigger
I was convinced those Cartoon Network "clone wars" cartoons would suck, they are actually not that bad
My son got the Boba Fett series of books. They were surprisingly well written - highly recommended.
FYI - I am not "Star Wars fan" - but read the first book after my son pretty much begged me to do so. I kept on reading after that...
Maybe this is the first sign I'm turning into a joyless adult, but the more I think and read about the Star Wars universe, the more I think it sucks. The original trilogy of movies are incredible, and always will be, because they are extremely well executed tellings of a simple story, combined with incredible visuals, an awesome musical score, and near perfect editing decisions. The original movies do the perfect amount of world building while still leaving a lot of things to the imagination.
Galactic Senate- "Oh I guess that's like a space congress." We don't need to see this organization ever in the OT, hear its organization, or anything else about it. The viewer's imagination fills in a lot of the gaps.
Boba Fett is a perfect example of this. If you look at what he actually does in the movies, he is kind of a pussy and doesn't really do anything. But based on how he looks and how he interacts with other characters (especially Vader), you can tell he's a bad ass.
We don't need to see these things or know their origin stories for them to be great. Like I said, the more I read about most of the "expanded universe" bullshit, the worse my opinion of it grows.

I liked Episode One the best.
Sounds like your 8 year old has terrible taste in movies.
