What is the infatuation with Tressel? Does everyone forget that his offenses were boring as hell, and relied mostly on superior talent, which we don't have?
"Tressel" is just a name. In reality there would be very few differences between a Tressel-run offense and the offense we saw the last two years.
Yeah, his offense was very Perles-like.
I like how the scUMmers on MGoBlow talk about how horrible an offensive coach Tressel was. They conveniently forgot that he was 9-1 against scUM and scored an average of 28 points on them over those 10 games.
Let me get this down, $100 million. Oh wait, I have a better idea. Instead of $100 million, how about I send you a hobo's dick cheese?
Um, what? He won a shit ton of games and scored pretty easily and dominated the B1G. He may run the same "boring" offense we used the last two years, but guess what...that is Dantonio ball and it would not be unusual for Dantonio to look for a OC to run basically the same offense. Yeah, Coach D said they are going to change it up next year, but don't be fooled into thanking it will be a dramatic departure from what Coach D likes to run.
I give it zero chance of being real, but that would be F---ing Awesome if true. Just the recruiting value and the fact that scUM and O$U fans everywhere would be going appshit would be worth it.
Jim Tressel was an excellent head coach and owned his rivals.
Considering the talent available, Jim Tressel's offenses at Ohio State were lackluster.
Both of those statements are true.
Cool. So we hire Jim Tressel, and then all we need is first round talent at the skill positions and enough elite offensive linemen that our second string is better than everyone else's starters. It all seems so easy!
The second statement wasn't true for the Troy Smith years.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
We have a ton of quality talent. We need some better coaching. Don't forget that we were a few points shy of 10+ wins this year, in spite of injuries to the OL. It's not like our talent level is miles behind.
Troy Smith, Ted Ginn Jr., Santonio Holmes, Anthony Gonzales, Brian Hartline, Beanie Wells, outstanding offensive line talent ... yeah, 35 points per game seems pretty Tressel-like.
Everyone seems to think that "Jim Tressel, CEO of a Top-5 program" equates to "Jim Tressel, offensive mastermind." Tressel's Ohio State program was built around defense. The offense was pretty conservative, but (much like Saban at Alabama) was loaded with the best talent in the country.
Look, this is not a knock on Tressel's past success. As a head coach he was outstanding. That doesn't mean he'd be a good offensive coordinator at MSU.
I don't know he was only a fantastic recruiter?
Even if Tressel did get hired as an OC and even if Tressel's offenses weren't gangbusters at OSU, it still would be a sh!t ton better than the O we suffered through last season.
MSU's O doesn't need to be a great O to win ballgames, it just needs to be consistent. Because our D is pretty damned good, MSU only needs an O that can score more than 13 points a game.
WTS, MSU is not going to hire Tressel. Not even in my dreams. But I would laugh my ass off if it ever were to happen.
If you can do a half-assed job of anything, you're a one-eyed man in a kingdom of the blind.

This would be a splashy move, but there is just no way I can possibly see this happening. I just can't see Dantonio and Hollis allowing this kind of baggage to surround the team. Can you imagine all the pressers where people would just be asking about Tressel?
Yeah the Detroit papers would hate us for this.
Not to mention JT can get a head coaching job anytime he wants.
1. This would never, ever happen.
2. I don't want it to happen anyway. Still got a bad taste in my mouth from the bullshit he pulled to get himself canned and OSU in trouble. Don't want somebody like that hanging around our program.

"MSU hires tragic hero......thuggery certain to continue for the spartys"
By Drew Sharp
I would love this, no way it happens.
I would have told you there is no way Roushar isn't our 2013 OC a month ago though.
There is a reason the guy went to the top of the pile. Maybe, just maybe it was because he knew what the hell he was doing. There is no doubt he is capable of handling a coordinator position. In fact he would likely be outstanding at it. To suggest otherwise is bit silly.
There is almost no chance it would happen. about as much chance as I have bagging Diane Lane

Gotta be honest. Because it made Michigan fans so mad, I kind of loved Tressel getting hoisted up on his players shoulders at halftime of this year's game. It was such a middle finger to the NCAA that I wasn't upset at all.
I wonder if he still has Ted Ginn Sr.'s number. Some Glenville kids would be nice.
So just because he ran a boring offense with superior talent at OSU, you think he would run the exact same thing at MSU, regardless of talent?
Some people are simply smart football minds and will call plays and make adjustments based on the talent they have and the game situations. Does that describe Tressel? Nobody knows. He didn't have to be anything but boring at OSU.
LOL that never happened. That was an unnamed poster on here posing as a "student equipment manager" and fucking with you all that he got fired.
I wouldn't hate Tress, but I'd be very surprised if it did happen.
Tressell definitely showed the willingness to adapt to personnel at OSU.
