Travis Bader will be a fifth year senior at Oakland for the 2013/14 season. He is from Okemos and will have his degree from Oakland and I believe will be eligible to transfer to another program for his final year of eligibility.
He is a 6' 5" three point shooting guard. With no recruits for next year to date how do you all think he would look in a Spartan uniform?
[collapses from aneurysm]
I've watched a few games on FSD if Byrd could be half the shooter he is we would be very happy
When from these scenes we wander, and twilight shadows fade, our memory still will linger, where light and shadows played.
On paper he sounds like a great candidate. If he can play defense, he'd be Kearney with a 3 point shot. Has anyone seen him play?
It would be nice to pick one of these guys up again.
If Harris stays will we need more guards?
Kid can absolutely play, there's no doubt. He won't take nearly as many shots at MSU as he does at Oakland though. That's a wide open offense and Kampe lets them improvise quite a bit in terms of shot selection.
Defense is not his strength. He'd struggle to guard in the B1G. If Harris stays, is he going to be content coming off the bench? All speculation, of course. Haven't heard anyplace that the kid is looking to leave. Might be best for him professionally to stay where he is.

Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
That's a good question. If everyone ends up staying, would there even really be a need to bring in anyone besides Schilling? Sure we lose Nix, but Costello has come on strong as of late and will hopefully do a great job of filling that void. Then add in Kaminski and maybe even an improved Byrd and I'm not sure where anyone new to the program would get playing time.
Edit: Just re-read this post and thought about the possibilities for next year if everyone stays. Scary how good they could be.

What about Ray McCallum?
We can only dream
Maybe Dar Tucker as well?
I think another guard would be a great addition assuming he can do one of 2 things:
1. shoot very well
2. play D very well.
It sounds like he can shoot, but not a great defender.
The way I see it, Appling is the PG, and Valentine will back him up. Harris is the SG, and Trice will back him up (as well as provide spot minutes at PG if need be).
Trice and Harris have had injury problems which we can't just assume will never come up again. We have no idea what, if anything, we'll get from Byrd.
Considering that we have 2 open scholies, I'd be happy to see this kid on the roster, along with Schilling. He would get Kearney level minutes as long as his shot was dropping, and he'd have more of a resume for scouts to look at.
I agree with this. He is a liability defensively and is a very streaky shooter. He is very familiar with MSU players having played in the Moneyball league.
Bader graduated from Oakland in three years and is already taking graduate school courses. I'm not sure if that affects his ability to transfer to another school for his 5th year.
I have also not seen it mentioned in this thread that his father worked for the MSU basketball program and his sister was a very good tennis player for the Spartans.

Run it by Izzo. lol
We Hope For Better Things; It Shall Rise From the Ashes.
Doubt Izzo is going to poach a guy from any of the instate schools. Knowing Kampe he'd throw a fit.
Jodi Arias says she likes guys named Travis.
He scored 47 in a game this year
I would love to see him as an addition...what about Drew Valentine as another candidate? I realize we already have the better of the two brothers, but I wouldn't count him out. Less fo a shooter, but a better defender than Bader.
Valentine is a senior.
I appreciate the idea, but it seems weird to speculate on a potential transfer when there has been nothing about that individual having interest in coming to MSU or transferring at all for that matter. Just seems premature.

of course it's speculation. Do you think he's going to come out and say he wants to transfer? He's trying to lead his team to the NCAA tournament right now.
If he stays at Oakland, he will break JJ Redick's record for most 3's in NCAA history. I bet he returns to OU just for that. But if he wants to play on national TV, and try to win a national championship, he will consider it
I watch a lot of OU basketball and can agree with most of the sentiments listed so far. The kid is a hell of a shooter, would be a great addition. At 6'5 and with decent strength he is a decent defender, although as mentioned it certainly isn't his strong suit.
