You go undefeated in your weak non-conference schedule, get a few nice wins in B1G play, even earn your first #1 national ranking in some 20 years. All of this causes your fan base to make claims that you're "back", you are an "elite program" again, that the rivalry with your in-state school is "back, strong, and here to stay", and that you have "caught up and surpassed" to that rival.
Then, you go into your rivals house as a the #4 team in the country and a 1-point favorite, and proceed to get THUMPED by that rival on national television!! You lose by 23 points as they completely shutdown your offense with suffocating defense and get dominated on the glass, staples of your rivals rise to elite status over the past 15 years. The worst part is that it could have easily been a 30+ point beat down if your rival didn't graciously let off the gas.
Next time, I suggest you check yourself and realize what "elite" status means, so that your rival doesn't have to check you for you. Because your rival, Michigan State, is truly ELITE!!! GO GREEN!!
that, and you're a bunch of dicks.
Michigan got thoroughly exposed. They're basically a bunch of average players and Trey Burke. He is their whole team. Hardaway is the only other player who can create his own offense and he's ineffective when he has a more athletic guy (Dawson) on him. Robinson and Stauskus are just spot shooters and get open looks because of Burke. McGary is basically Matt Costello except Costello is buried behind top level talent right now. McGary gets some rebounds, but basically only scores off from Burke creating for him or grabbing loose balls. If Costello played McGary's minutes on Michigan's team, his numbers would be the same as McGary's.
Burke is obviously wearinig down and I would not be surprised if they have a very early exit from the Tourney again this year. One guy can't do it all for the whole season.
Hey now, don't be so hard on them. They almost scored as much as Tuskegee did against us.
No need to slam McGary. He's a good player who can be real good as he develops. Second, I also resent the backhanded slap at Costello.
We better be ready to play in Ann Arbor.
Once again... A Spartan Defense shows the rest of the country how to shut down a one-dimensional Wolverine Offense.
Different Sport... Same Outcome

Fuck that, they'd better be ready to play in Ann Arbor or we will sweep their sorry asses
McGary isn't likely to develop that much more. He's already 20 years old so his body is most of the way to its full maturity now. His skillset mifht improve somewhat, but he's essentially at his ceiling now.
Costello, from a talent and skillset perspective, is already superior to McGary. He hasn't shown it yet here, but he has range. On top of that, Costello is only 5 lbs lighter than McGary and 2 years younger. He has a lot more physical development left in him.
McGary will never be much more th a n what he is today. Costello is going to surpass him at some point in the not too distant future.
michigan is a very good team. but even very good teams will fail when facing a buzzsaw like last night.
Never understood the "overrated" chant...

I must be crazy to be in a loony bin like this.
Amen to that, nice parallel.

I actually thought Stauskus was a nice player. He is going to get better and be a pain in the ass in the future. He took it to the rack a couple of times and he has some decent length...
But he still got bitch slapped tonight.

I agree with this.
a nearly 30 points whooping? If you're really as good as everyone claimed them to be, there is no excuse for that. Especially in such a big game. If they weren't overrated they would have at least made it close.
Good point. Reminds me of the PPTPW. Certainly saw that on display last night.
Unless that one man is Shawn Respert....or Scott Skiles.

The indoctrinated will no longer be able to deny it, only defend it.
Sklies had some help. DJ and Vernon Carr were damn good players. And Respert had Snow.
And if you're going to talk shit about the style of play of another team and talk about how much they suck, don't lose to them and be looking up at them in the standings.
Yes, I'm talking about Wisconsin. MSU can talk shit about the UW style of play. And so can I. But not Michigan fans.
Maybe we are/were underrated?
I guess I'll focus on how good state is, instead of how bad umer is.
UW could go undefeated and they would still be atrocious to watch.
boring ass basketball.
Same thing that happened to Burke last year--as the season wore on, he wore out. McGary could be very good, but he needs to lose some weight, add some muscle, and find a post move or two. I've never been impressed by Hardaway--streaky player who folds against real competition. Dakich's statement, Beilein is the best offensive coach in college basketball is a joke, too. Move the three point line back to the pro distance and see how "great" of a coach he really is.
Thank you, Denicos.
It happens. We were down 20 -25 pts all game long vs North Carolina in the 2009 championship game.
Duke lost by 30 points vs Miami earlier this year. They are still a good team.
He played scared and seemed to stop shooting after he missed a few wide open looks towards the end of the first half. I agree, next year I think he'll have more confidence when playing at the Brez and should be a cause for concern
Costello is better than McGary.
