Turn out last year was pathetic. Granted, the weather sucked but it wasn't awesome in 2011 either. We're gonna have a lot of recruits there. It's be nice if we could get a big turnout for the Spring Game this year.... Maybe get back to 35,000?
Side note: OSU had 81,000 last year. There is no reason that MSU can't get half of that.
Ohio State led all BCS conference schools in spring game attendance this year with 81,112 fans, up from the past two years when attendance dipped due to poor weather. TheComing off its second nation
Alabama topped all BCS schools for the third straight season with 92,310 fans at its annual spring football game, topping the school record set last year. Oregon drew 43,468 fans for its game this year, marking a school and Pac-10 record. Among other schools setting spring game attendance records w
Wasn't 2009 in the midst of a thunderstorm?
I think I remember last year's as being very poor weather as well.
Last year the weather was not good. In 2011 it was very windy and kinda cold....We still managed 35k. There is no reason we can't get there again.
It really is heavily dependent on the weather: someone last year had a good idea that our athletic department didn't enact. Make it a fundraiser for a good cause: vets, cancer research, etc.....and don't charge but strongly encourage donations: SOMETHING to entice people to come. I mean............we are talking about PRACTICE aren't we?
To put it in context, Ohio State's lowest was 44k. That's significantly more than our best turnout. MSU should be able to have a huge turnout for the Spring Game. Imagine you're a recruit going to visit OSU and you see an almost full house for the Spring Game. That would be impressive.
MSU will never be at that point, but we can do better.
OSU gets 81k to their practice. Our fans can do better. We can get back to 35k.
And the 10 day forecast (I know....those stink) is for 52 and sunny. That isn't bad weather if it's correct. Should be a beautiful day for football
While it may be worthwhile, this would likely decrease attendance.

I dont think the AD hypes up the spring game enough. You have to make it an event and really publicize it.
. . . interesting that Oklahoma- 20K, USC- 15K, and Wisconsin-10 K had rather modest turnouts at Spring games also. I do believe the Spring game numbers represent an enthusiasm level for a program, but other factors such as weather, spring game traditions must enter into the equation.
I'll be there again. I've been going for quite a few years now. I wish the baseball team was in town that weekend. I always like going to their game after the football scrimmage when they are playing.
There's a time and a place for everything and it's called college.
I'll be at a Stepdad concert so I won't make an appearance.
I've got a stupid wedding for tWifey. Better now than in the fall, though
I can't make it...

Really wish I could go but I have to present at a research conference that day in Grand Rapids.
Hope they replay it sometime or that someone posts it online.
Judging by tRCMB enthusiasm, I'm guessing attendance goes down to about 10k this season
- Open it up to regular football saturday tailgate rules (yes this adds $ for enforcement)
- Tie in with some kind of E.Lansing festival and try to make it a weekend event
- Promote it more
and, most importantly,
- Win more football games year in and year out.
Also, you have to believe that there's a "tipping point" where once you start getting huge turnouts that it becomes more than just a scrimmage, it becomes an event to be seen at/take part of.
it is a spring game. who gives a shit

The spring game is a horribly managed event by our athletic department. It is not an event. It does nothing to entice people outside of Lansing and diehard fans. PSU puts on a weekend long event featuring home games of different sports, a massive carnival, bands, Wing Festival, fireworks, and a giant pancake breakfast at the basketball arena with the coaches and players...
OSU has a doubleheader with their Lacrosse team and other stuff going on, though its going to be in Cincinatti this year.
It just seems like such a missed opportunity for an athletic department that rarely misses opportunities.

Don't see any rain in the forecast! Would be nice to have a big turnout!
