My girlfriends parents moved there a year ago. We are heading there to visit for the first time. I get the sense she will try and talk my into moving there at some point. She knows I would not mind living in a city bigger than Lansing. I do not however care to live in a huge city or close to it. I have nixed moving to Chicago and Tampa. I have heard less than desireable things about Bakersfield. Her parents really like it and it is alot bigger than I thought it was. Anyone?
pics of girlfriend
I actually posted one a few months ago.
Bakersfield's a shithole. I'd take Chicago or Tampa in a second over that place.
It's home of the "Bakersfield sound." that's all I can add. And additional dap for posting your senior pic. That was bold.
Do you like smog and heat? If so, it's the place for you.
I would not mind it from December-April thats for sure.
yea uh... don't do it.
But why? It does not take much to make me happy. Hell I love living in Lansing for christs sake.
Honestly, I think it rivals East St. Louis.
22 - 26 years ago I played football there every other year. Hotter than shit, and not very nice. That's about all I remember. I grew up on the coast which is beautiful, whereas Bakersfield is inland in the San Fernando valley.
In that time though it has grown from a town of 70 to over 300K.
Oil and natural gas industry. The oil industry also includes lots of refineries, which adds to the suckiness.
I was stranded in Bakersfield for a couple days due to car trouble once. The heat was relentless and the temp dropped to maybe 90 degrees at night. There is a rustic stretch along the Kern River where the young people hang out - maybe by the thousands - drinking beer, listening to music and checking each other out - all this is happening while near traffic jams cruise the river side lanes trying to see who is hanging out at the river.
Which is exactly what my gf's dad moved there for.
Have you ever been to the Central Valley of CA before? It's nothing like the postcards of the coast with the palm trees and sunshine. It's a pretty drastic difference from MI. You'll see when you visit there.
"The RCMB on 247 is one of the most awful, alarming, inappropriate, disgusting, and offensive msg boards in the history of the internet."
They kicked Taft's sorry ass in football a solid 80 years in a row before Jack Dundee and Reno Hightower finally set things right.
I have heard The Kern is a beautiful river.
Hot, with oil and gas refineries, dairy farms, etc.
. Flat and uninteresting. Not sure why you would want to move there vs. many other parts of the country.
It's hot as shit in the summer, its about 94 percent Hispanic, as someone who likes trains, i love it and the tehachapis
I went out to Bakersfield for an interview when I graduated from college... knew nothing about it. Couldn't get out of there fast enough. I would take Lansing 100 out of 100 times over Bakersfield.

Mike Ness wrote a song called Bakersfield on the last Social Distortion album...that's all I got.
Apparently you never listened to Loveline? Adam Carolla would rip the shit out of that city every time he had a chance.
As others have said, hot as hell, bit of a gang problem, mix of oil and gas, farming, and migrant workers. Terrible schools. Actually can't think of a single positive thing to say about the place.
Isn't Korn from Bakersfield? I drove through it once, and it looked crappy. Neither of those comments are very helpful though.
The Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce should link this thread on its website.
