All three finished with under 50% completion percentage. Not good.
Impressions from just one day of observation:
The Bad, Maxwell: About the same as last year. Very mechanical. No ability to create (well, maybe just a bit better than last year). Most of the completions came on underneath throws. No touch on the ball.
The Good, Cook: I still like this kid's game over Maxwell's. He seems more willing to wait for plays to develop, and keeps his eyes downfield. Seems more in control of the game than Maxwell.
The ugly, O'Connor: If we were waiting for this kid to be our savior, it ain't gonna happen this year. He's still very rough. No timing with the receivers. Will take major development in the fall (or injury to the others) for him to become a factor. Let's just hope he had a bad day, and is really better than he showed.
Oh, and R. Bullough really IS our best RB right now. Didn't see enough of Tompkins to build an impression, but Langford's got nothing, and Hill is Hill (average, undersized). Keep our fingers crossed for the freshmen. Otherwise, Bullough WILL be playing tailback this fall. This ain't just a spring fling.
Impressed with LT on the DL, and Troup at WR. Fowler and Mumphry still dropping balls. (BTW, I don't like Fowler's body language. Doesn't seem to care. Smiles after dropped balls....WTF??) Was hoping to see more of Kings. DA.....yeah, maybe.
Overall, not feeling very good about this offense right now. Let's hope its the D that's making 'em look bad.

Tompkins looked good
"losing Caleb Benenoch is a blow that Dantonio will never recover from. Izzo has lost it as well. Hoke and Beilein own the state."
Burbridge looks like our best playmaker at WR right now. Had a really tough catch in the first half, nearly made a couple of others. The drops are alarming, all of the receivers have a lot of work to do over the summer.
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
What you mean he has an obvious agenda, and is completely wrong to boot?
Agree. Burbridge is our best big play threat. All need to hold on to the ball better. Had some drops, some fumbles (yes, that one on Burbridge was a fumble).
Was hoping that the drops of early last season were behind us. Maybe not....
Scrap the program.
Averaged 10/carry. Was it relatively consistent, or one big run?
Good assessment of Maxwell.....it looked like a replay of last year's offense under Andrew. I love the guy and wish him nothing but the best however he cannot create anything on his own.
If I recall, one big run. But it was an impressive run.
Bullough was the only consistent RB. The kid is a bull(ough)!
Had one big run to start
One big run
Thanks for the analysis - how long have you been coaching and evaluating qb play?
Not sure what you were watching, but it was more along the lines of "The Mediocre, the Mediocre, and the Ugly".
Cook looked good? He showed more fire than Maxwell, sure, but had a worse completion percentage and was bailed out on a few throws.
Since this morning, but I did stay at a Hol....
Never mind. (Since the days of Leister.)
I was being kind. Didn't want to go totally negative, because 80% of posters get their panties in a bunch.
Let's just say that we have no real "good" options at QB, as things stand today. And that goes for the RB and TE position too. WR is only slightly better.
Why should we say that, just because you do?
Move over, Vlad.
Sorry to get this off-track from the title, but since you mentioned it, I would not mind a backfield of Bullough/Tompkins to start the year.
Even though it is only a couple sentences, this is the best analysis I have seen on the comparison between Maxwell and Cook. And it's crazy to me that not everybody sees the same thing.
One run for 30 yards, solid 4.3 yards per carry on 3 other runs.
Because he watches the games and has a brain. And he's exactly right.
I see potential with a Cook/Bullough backfield, and Burbridge can make plays as well. Unfortunately our defense is still our best offense.
"RCMB: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainry." - some dude from MgoBlog
I didn't see much of the game, but from what I saw Maxwell had a bunch of drops & cook was missing receivers by 5 yards.
I believe it when he says he's been bitching since the days of Leister.
