I received the following email today. A company that is strong and stable does not feel the need to fire off an email like this. They are scared. My prediction is they don't make it to Christmas 2013, and I am actually a fan of Best Buy. I will really miss going to the Best Buy/Circuit City/Media Play type stores just to wander around.
The email reads:
Dear Reward Zone Member,
The presidential election is over, and no matter how you feel about the outcome, just about everyone is happy we've seen the last misleading TV commercial.
Some retailers, unfortunately, didn't get the memo—and they're pounding the airwaves with ads that make us feel like the political season never ended. Ugh. Well, at Best Buy ® , we stand for something different. Here's our promise to you:
We are dedicated to having the best pricing on the products people care about most, like smartphones, tablets and televisions. And if for some reason we don't have the lowest price, we will match any price on our hardware products, whether that price comes from a traditional "brick and mortar" store or a major online retailer.
Best Buy stores feature the broadest selection of consumer electronics products in the United States.
At Best Buy, you can shop when and where you want: in our stores, online or over the phone. You can even buy online and pick up your purchase in our store the same day.
We have a sales force trained to deliver impartial, knowledgeable advice about all products, to make sure you get exactly what you need.
We will stay with these products for their lifetime with our Geek Squad ® services and support.
This holiday season, we'll keep the competition honest if we have to, but we'd rather spend our time and energy doing what matters most: keeping you satisfied. That's the truth, and that's our promise to you.
Shawn Score Senior Vice President of U.S. Retail, Best Buy
They'll survive because some people haven't heard of Monoprice/don't have an Amazon account.
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
And this news is surprising? Between Wal-Mart and Amazon, I'm shocked it didn't happen a few years earlier.

Did a Senior Vice President of U.S. Retail just use the word "Ugh." in an e-mail to customers?
Here's to hoping the laptop I just bought from them will be free.
Too bad they were run turribly, never had a bad experience with them, except my plasma TV years ago, but they knocked 25% off the price, so I can't complain.
December 3, 2011 - Forever haunted by what I witnessed...
By the way, if Amazon can manage to roll out same day delivery to most major (top 50 or so) metropolitan areas in 2013, which is their stated goal, Best Buy and numerous other retailers are toast. Most people who shop at B&M stores do so because they want/need the item today instead of waiting a few days for it to be shipped.
they'll adapt and evolve into an online only retail store for their core best buy business...they will sublease their big box space to businesses that require brick and mortar presence - this would be a good opportunity for a fitness center business to repurpose space as an example.
Mmm I don't think so. It's called marketing. Who isn't thinking about the underlying effects of the election and the fiscal cliff?
I could be wrong but I call it a good message c
This country was built by people who worked hard then went home and had just a few too many every night. Then went back to work.
Having Amazon Prime plus no sales tax in most states trumps B&M stores now.
I haven't purchased anything from best buy in years.
Amazon and other online stores has great reviews and product info and better prices.
Unless you need something quick or the same day I don't see the draw.
I actually went in there the other day for the first time in a couple of years and noticed they forrid of their auto audio stuff and added instruments?
Oddly enough I spend a decent amount of money at BB but have a Prime account and buy all my cables at Monoprice.
Funny thing when I did just go in there I looked at laptops and the guy working there really cared less if I bought anything but really did a hard sell on me resigning for rewardzone and offered me a $25 store credit (which I didn't take him up on).
Best buy is pretty much dead to me.

?? I got 200 off the Playstation TV the day it launch by talking to customer service from Amazon. Your haggling skills must suck.
Their complete lack of knowledge and eagerness to pretend they have a clue at the risk of flat out lying to my face, is my number one reason for not setting foot in their stores. I will not go there unless I have done enough research to grab product and avoid their sales team in the name of instant gratification.
ALL retailers are struggling with online vendors such as Amazon. Banana Republic, J Crew, those types of stores send us 40% off coupons almost every week. The marketplace is changing and retailers are struggling to figure out how to compete just as record stores struggled to adjust to iTunes and other online music stores.
Recently I went into Best Buy to purchase an iron that I had seen online. The store didn't even carry it, or any other irons. The place was fucking empty. Customers are also buying electronic products from places like Costco. My wife is an expert on the retail industry and she can buy tons of stuff at significantly discounted prices by parlaying coupons and other sales. It's entirely predictable. For those with patience you can save TONS of the originally marked price.

Haven't had an issue with it. And yes, I did haggling because Best Buy put those things on sale the week of launch. End up getting that thing for 300 shipped instead of 550. And those things are 200 now, they were 99 during Black Friday.
The end is nigh for no sales tax for online retailers. Enjoy it while you can. It was a good run, but the states will win this issue and are just finding the best way for retailers to implement a solution.
Obviously online is cheaper to buy electronics but i hate when people walk around best buy with pen and paper take down a ton of information ask their staff questions. Then after using best buys(and other stores) resources leave and go buy it online. Their prices have to be higher to pay staff and operate a store for you to go see the difference between 120hz and 240hz on a tv. That is why it is hard for a store like that to stay alive, well and bad management. I definitely like buying online, but if you get information and help from a store dont be a cheap ass and just buy it from them.
Too late for Best Buy.
Better yet, don't even ask for help. All you are doing is wasting people's time by doing that. You got a smart phone, use the freaking apps.
Best Buy routinely preys on ignorant consumers. A friend's brother works there part-time and they are sometimes trained to do some borderline lying to get people to buy stuff they don't need. He said he once watched his manager convince an old lady to buy a 40 dollar HDMI cable to connect her DVD PLAYER to a TV.
Some DVD players have HDMI outputs.... Just saying.
I'v always had horrible experience with geek squad and best buy customer service. Even Dell customer service told us that everyone who brought a computer to geek squad for repair got ripped off.
