I know this is almost a given, but the older crowd is stuck with this " Let Michigan lose if it cost is the title, so what" while the younger generation says "Let's get a title even if it means sharing with the weasels."
My thing is, where is this divide really at? At what age? And why has the younger generations attitude has changed over the years re SCum.

I don't know of any true fan that is hoping Michigan loses at the expense of a Big 10 Championship..

What about those of us who aren't actively rooting for Michigan, but would still be happy for a Big Ten title if it comes?
Exactly there are a ton of people who will be rooting for a Michigan loss over a Michigan State Big Ten Championship which is sad.
It comes with the wisdom of age, and the ability, or the experience to see that what is Good for um-AA will be Bad for MSU. I will root for IU Sunday, and consider it rooting FOR MSU. Let that sink in. A better seeding in the BTT, and a worse seeding for um-AA. Probably therefor a better seeding in The Dance, and a worse seeding for um-AA. On the recruiting trail over the next two years, um-AA will NOT get to claim Recent consecutive championships. We still will. IU already HAS a championship this year, so they get to crow, win or lose.
I'm willing to give up one of the shared banners to take it away from um-AA, not so much for spite, but because it will hurt them long-term in recruiting, and building/maintaining their program. It is a zero-sum game. What is good for them is bad for us.
Does that explain it a little better? I'll be happy with another title if um-AA does manage to beat IU on Sunday. But I will NOT be all that disappointed if IU wins. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
My Blood Runs Green.....
Younger generation didn't live through the 70's.
I am going to ignore that game all together and just root for MSU to beat Northwestern.

Not sure it is age as much as location. When I lived in Chicago, UM was basically just a high profile B1G team, like OSU. Now living in the Detroit area, it is an entirely different situation with their legion of white trash fans and the media in their pocket. Any success they have is amplified 100+ times, and it's hard to listen to, even though I avoid Detroit media whenever possible.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
Then you would be wrong. Anyone who knows me knows my blood runs Green. Die-hard MSU fan, scream myself hoarse at games, wife thinks I'm nutZ because 2/3 of my wardrobe is green. And I'll be rooting for IU on Sunday. See earlier post for the reasoning. I choose to root for the Long Term good of MSU as opposed to one more shared 5-loss title. It hurts um-AA more than it does us. It hurts US if um-AA gets another title.
And I do not give a flying flip if you disagree, or want to challenge my "fandom".

Seriously, I don't give a care what Michigan does in recruiting. As long as we have Izzo, we will always be contenders. Hasn't the last 15 years prove that....especially the last 2 when Michigan was suppose to be the better squad?
It's sad that Michigan State has a much better rep in Texas then it does in its own State.
I'm one of the olders and my attitude is, "whatever." While I would love for us to win the championship, we have tied for a lot of them. Who ever doesn't think that UM adding "two straight" Big 10 championships to their resume might be of greater benefit to their program than placing second would be a detriment to ours is ignoring the complexity of the issue.

Yeah I don't see any reason at all for us to be getting our panties in a bunch. Rooting for MSU doesn't even effect the outcome of our games, so why the hell do I need to root for a different team?
How about I root for a bear to get loose in the arena and tear both teams apart...
Spartans lost twice convincingly to IU, so let IU have it, they desrve it and I hope they destroy mu.

"I think the world is run by C students"
do you see the irony of this post, given your thread?
My "tooting" doesn't have any affect on which team wins the game.
I'm not going to root for UM during the game. I cannot bring myself to root for them. Just thinking about rooting for Trey Burke after he ran over and did the floor slap during a dead ball right in front of Izzo and Appling...or their current hero Jailen Rose wiping his ass on the Brislin S...I don't root for those guys.
Anyway, I am going to root for Indiana. If UM wins, cool, we get a share, if UM loses, cool, we get a higher BiG seed and better shot at a higher NCAA seed, which is more important.
A B1G Title would be nice.. but a Final Four banner would be even better.. and IU winning sets MSU up in a much better position for a higher seed in the NCAAs as well as an easier road in the BTT..
That's why I'm rooting for IU
Then you don't know or understand the history between MSU and scUM. I will not cheer for um to win. If they do, good for them and we share a title that they had a hand inks being part of. To think that those a-holes in Ann Arbor would have to take care of business for us makes me want to puke.
I believe IU is going to jail sex the weasels anyway. And if they do, I won't shed a tear. We will take care of business at the big dance.
Spartans ...committed to bring Paul Bunyan home in 2013.
Is that the truth? It's not a secret in Austin that Rick Barnes and Texas is using Michigan State basketball to enhance their basketball program, which is a win for both schools.
This is where I stand.

Or those of us that actually read, write, and speak English as our first language and had to read JYD's post 5 times just to decipher WTF he was trying to say???
Plus, what about the children?? Has anyone considered the children?!?!?

Maybe this is that "old vs. young" issue, but we "old" Spartans believe that you earn what you get. You do not back in the door; you kick it in. We do not want to be relying upon someone else, especially our arch enemy to win, in order to get us a share of the championship, with them, even! We had our chance to win it outright, and we did not with our losses to Indiana, Ohio State and Michigan. No way, I will support the varmits! Lets just get ready for the Big 10 tournament and the NCAA...
Stop giving excuses on why you are slow.
I wouldn't say a ton of people. Others may look at it and see we can improve BTT matchups w IU win. But who doesn't want a share of championship? I would be careful in generalizing "a ton of people."
Weird definition of convincingly. Msu had the hardest league schedule two years in a row in a stacked big ten. If they win a share of the title, it will not be undeserved or unearned or backed into.
