Agree. The kid has a nice stroke and no fear.
He also knows when to shoot and when not to. He doesn't take it if he's not open...sounds simple, but a lot of guys just hoist threes with reckless abandon.

And more importantly, he takes them when he's open. Other players pass up wide open looks...
If it's Appling, then this team will be very good.

I want to say Trice or Byrd, but something is telling me G.
We really missed outside shooting last year, hopefully a few guys find their stroke.
Percentage - Kearney
Makes - Trice
Attempts - Harris
Nix will have the worst 3 point percentage.
Would be a huge lift of Byrd is the word.
Percentage (for shooters with legit # of attempts) will be Trice
I really really hope that our leader in attempts and makes is NOT our starting PG. I'd rather see one of the wings (Harris or even Byrd) be that guy. I'm a firm believer that PGs shouldn't be chuckers. It's fine if they're the leading shot-takers, but I'd rather Appling attack the basket than just jack up 3s.
I think Byrd will have a few games where he comes in and knocks down a handful of triples, but that won't push him to be make or attempt leader.
I agree, though I expect Keith to settle for more 3s when he's tired or the team is struggling. Also, simply by being on the court longer he's bound to attempt more shots.

Consider this a vote of confidence for Appling.
I think he will compensate for being a bit lackluster last year.
I hope byrd turns out. I want MSU to have a white guy who kills you from deep. Like a JJ Redick at Duke or Diebler from Ohio St a few years ago. Always good for 10-12 points with a couple of threes and a few free throws, but the ability to go off at any time and drop 20+. We have been burned by that in the past and now i hope we can repay the favor
Why does he have to be white ?
I think it's a product of minutes mostly. Keith will lead the team in minutes by a healthy margin. He'll also play minutes on the wing when Trice is in. Also, there have been many years under Izzo where the PG gets plenty of looks within the flow of the offense, especially inside out when we have good post options like this year.
Which PGs have been the leading 3-pt. shot-takers on an Izzo team? And don't say Neitzel, because he was only a PG for his first two years at MSU (as a Jr. and Sr. he played off the ball and Walton/Lucas were the points).
I'll be SHOCKED if Gary Harris (playing around 25 min/game) isn't the leading 3-pt. shot-taker.

Lets be honest it a hell of a lot more unexpected when you key in on a team stars and a white guy comes out of nowhere and drops 20. Diebler being the perfect example. If you dont realize that we have been burned by some guys that looked like they got up from the last chair on the bench and torched us then you havent watched enough MSU bball
Cleaves every year but his senior season. Once he got healthy, he and Peterson put up similar # of attempts taht season too. Kalin Lucas every season he started at PG. Chris Hill ran point after Taylor left and led the team in 3's. You know, some of our best teams. It's not like these guys take stupid 3's either. It's part of the offense. Keith isn't going to just dribble down and jack 3's. They will come in the flow of the offense. 3's aren't going to be a huge part of our offense, so it is very reasonable for the PG who is going to get 32+ minutes per game to lead the team in attempts.
I don't want to get my hopes up on Byrd. He didn't look impressive in eithe exhibition game, just as it has been the past 2 seasons.
I'll be SHOCKED if Gary Harris is the leading 3 pt shooter. He's much better as a slasher / finsisher around the basket than he is as an outside shooting threat.
Makes and attempts - Appling
% - Payne
I agree. When you are recruited as a 3-point specialist...and you underwhelm in that skill...it's hard to justify playing time. This is especially true when you are a defensive liability.
It's pretty clear at this point that Denzel Valentine is the better player...or soon will be.
