Was discussing this during the UW/scUM game.
Won't go through all the variables needed for this to happen (basically a split or very near split of the Big Ten Title between IU, UM, and State; all three teams play well in conference tourney; rest of nation's top teams continue to struggle), but is it possible for the Big Ten to land three #1 seeds in the Big Dance? We all know seeds don't matter, but it would be cool for the conference as a whole.
Thought it was an interesting hypothetical.
Could certainly happen. The Big East had three 1-seeds in 2009 (and as we know, the Spartans beat two of them). It would be cool to have an all-B1G final.
Aaaaaaand boom goes the dynamite.
Hey...it's happened with ACC teams before, I'm sure. So, why not B1G?
And the big east 09. Felt great to plow through their conference.
Possible? Yes. Probably need the right combo two of the teams tying for the regular season title and then the third team winning the BTT. And the rest of the rest of the country to stink it up.
Here's a good idea for a thread. Have people rank teams likelihood of getting a #1 seed. Not based on where they would be bracketed today, but at season's end. Someone can give a prize away to the winner.
I think it would be more awesome to have 3 B!G teams in the final four.
Fuck that. I don't want scUM or Wisky in the F4.
IU OSU MSU?
Probably the most likely combination that could make it to the FF.
Remind yourself. Nobody built like you, you design yourself.
I think it’s possible, but I think it’s more likely the ACC get’s two #1’s.
I saw this weekend the standings in the ACC. Miami was up two games on Duke, beat them by almost 30, but was ranked like 6 spots lower. I just laughed. Typical over hyping the "usual" teams. Watch Miami get a 3 seed, and Duke a 1. Because they're Duke, and on TV more than Leave it to Beaver re-runs.
Yea I agree for the most part, but when Miami beat Duke, Miami was ranked 25th. So I can see why Miami is still several spots behind Duke.
What I would like to know, is the formula they use for SOS.
Miami has the #1 SOS and notable teams they played are MSU, and Arizona. Duke has the #2 SOS, and notable opponents are UK (were ranked #3 lol), Minnesota, Louisville, and O$U.
Minnisota has the #3 SOS. Kansas 11, Indiana 17, scum 22, and MSU 26.
The B1G is clearly the best conference from top to bottom, yet for some reason aside from Minnesota, no other Big Ten team ranks in the top 15 in SOS.
Like I said, I can see Duke and Miami getting #1’s, because they play in a relatively weak conference, and only face each other one more time. Then, you have the B1G beating up on each other. I would be really surprised if the B1G gets anymore than one #1.
How will OSU make the final four with one scoring option?
Don't bother with the 'polls.' Most of those ballots are last-minute "oh shit" fill-ins by overworked beat writers who only have time to watch their own teams play. And the coach's poll is filled out by grad assistants.
When the NCAA committee gets in a room and hashes out the seeding, it turns out to be a pretty accurate representation (IMO)....
"Tonight, we show the world what this program is made of!" -- Brian Ellerbe on Mar 4, 2000, the night of scUM's 51-point loss to MSU.
Three #1 seeds would certainly help that by putting our best teams into different brackets.
2003: How will Syracuse win with one scoring option?
2011: How will Connecticut win with one scoring option?

If you want to think about seeding, there are zilly bracketologists out there to give you a sense of the landscape. (see the link)
Draymond Green, Magic Johnson, and Oscar Robertson are the only players to have two triple-doubles in the NCAA Tournament.
Did those teams methodically keep the ball OUT of that players hands at the end of close games? Because that seems to be OSUs plan as of now, and it's not working.
2011 UCONN had more than Kemba Walker. Seriously, who does OSU have outside of Thomas offensively? Ross has showed up for a game or two, but is terribly inconsistent. If someone steps up by the end of the season then I think it is very possible they could make the final 4 with the defense they play.
Id like to see an all Big 10 National Championship game.
The indoctrinated will no longer be able to deny it, only defend it.
It all depends on the matchups (like it does for almost every NCAAT team). For OSU, Ross and Williams both had career nights vs. UM, because UM is soft in the paint. Both of those guys scored double their season average. If OSU draws teams that are perimeter based, they could make some noise. Despite all that, I still think they take an early exit.
Smith averages 10 ppg and Craft is just under 10. Ross steps in on occasion. They're very heavily loaded to Thomas, but they have support too. Plus they're one of the best defenses there is statistically.
All bias aside , I really believe IU and MSU have the best chance of winning it all.
Duke? Don't see it this year. Overrated
'Cuse and Florida are very good. Wouldn't want to face either team. Quality bigs.
Zags? Can never tell with mid majors. history says no and there's is always at least one "really good" mid major
Miami? God help Jim Larranaga if he wants to beat Izzo twice in a season.
IU has the most talented team. We have the toughest.
Can you imagine the game at Assembly had Zeller or Dipo been in foul trouble instead of App?
