On the deuce. NIU trying to become the MAC's fourth team ranked in the Top-25 this season. Winner goes to championship game.
No one cares, go away
Insert MAC-level joke here.
Right, no one cares about college football. My bad.
No, but nobody cares about meanlngless games played in front of 15k people on ESPN2 on a Wednesday night.
I wouldn't exactly call it meaningless. They're playing for a championship. And it seems that the crowd is significantly over 15K.
Could be a showcase of potential bowl opponents for MSU.
no one cares about NIU...who are they again
And Spielman say Jordan Lynch is a future Heisman candidate, so it's fun to watch him. If it's so meaningless to you than quit posting in this thread and go back to watching Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.
A MAC Championship is something WMU will never achieve as long as Bill Cubit is coaching.
Not going to argue that one. Sure would be nice to have a great young coach like these two teams do. Even if it's only for a few years before he moves on to bigger things.
I'm watching this game too. Bo Ryan loses + Toledo v. NIU = MAC-level Wednesday night.
Good, not great.
Hide yo quarterbackz, hide yo kidz, the MSU defense is here
They do have Spielman/McDonough/Kessnich on this one. That's not normal for Wednesday night, is it??
A school with a men's basketball team coached by a lot of dudes with MSU and state of Michigan ties.
And a Top-25 football program.
Big 10 won't have enough teams to fill the Pizza Pizza bowl
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
There's probably going to be 6-7 MAC teams in lower tier bowl games, so who knows who they'll play
That team is 10-0 right now if they don't find a way to lose to Iowa (by one point).
Yeah, season opener and I think they blew a lead at the end?
The game was at Soldier Field. It was the season opener and NIU did blow a lead. Iowa did not score a TD in that game, and won with six field goals. Probably good motivation for NIU going forward. NIU has a pretty explosive offense, but only put up 17 against Iowa. NIU has not put up less than 30 since. Lynch is awesome, and has surpassed 2000 yards passing and 1000 rushing for the season. He's no Dan LeFevour or anything, but pretty darn good.

Fair warning, I watch a lot of NIU football (both parents are graduates)
Lynch is for sure legit. He has 2500 yards passing, 1500 yards rushing, 22 passing TDs, 16 rushing TD's, and only 4 INTS (and 0 fumbles for a guy who carries it an average of 20 times per game). The Northern Illinois offense is a little gimmicky, but it works for them. Lynch basically has the option to hand off, run it himself, or throw on most plays. He's been over 100 yards rushing in every game except one (2nd game of the year against Tennessee-Martin when they really didn't need him to do much in a 35-7 victory) and over 190 yards passing in every game except the Iowa game.
Honestly, if they played Iowa now, I think NIU wins that game. They really played it too cautious and didn't let Lynch throw it nearly as much as they do now (It's his first year starting). He only attempted 16 passes and I think they didn't quite trust him to be throwing in the 4th quarter of that game.
If you're a college football fan in the Detroit area, I'd check them out when they come to town for the MAC championship. Tickets are dirt cheap (last year $25 got you seats on the 40 yard line 25 rows up at Ford Field) and I can guarantee it'll be an entertaining game. Odds are they'll play Kent State, a team who went to #15 Rutgers and beat them out in New Jersey a few weeks ago. Kent State plays Bowling Green this weekend and the winner of that game will be in the driver's seat to win the East division of the MAC.
