@roadmanwknr: Sources have told me that Akron will hold a press conference tomorrow to announce that Jim Tressel has been hired by the university
I have no idea who this guy is, just saw somebody retweet this. He said he's not sure what role Tressel would be in.

Why the hell would he go to Akron? You have to think that he would be able to get a way better job in the NFL or even in college at this point.
Bring back Rich Rod!
Wouldn't his five year show clause prevent this?
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
Just looked it up. OSU doesn't play Akron anytime soon. THAT would have been interesting...
They do have very nice facilities and a new stadium... I agree with you, but maybe he wants the challenge. I'm sure he could make them a MAC power, at least.
This was my question. Someone explained to me on here that he can still coach within that time, but the university has to appeal to the NCAA or something. I don't see how they can let him back in, but it is the NCAA.
sorry, meant ASSOCIATE AD?

Doesn't he have a show-cause?
...beyond a stretch of Maryland pines there's a river without a name.
Tressel is the former head coach at Ohio state
The University of Akron is in discussions with Tressel about taking an administrative position at the university. An announcement could come as early as today.
This is true. Akron would need to petition the NCAA and prove that no violations will occur as a result of the hire. If a violation does occur, they would face enhanced penalties (most likely the death penalty). This is why no school has ever hired a coach with a show cause order and no school will.
"People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." - Mark Dantonio.
Isn't this where Terry Bowden is now? Akron will have some pretty big names managing that program. I suspect they'll make a good run at in the MAC.
If this is true it would be one more ignorant and downright sadistic hires I've seen in any profession and the NCAA should ban all of Akron's athletic teams from postseason participation for one year. The guy should be a pile of nuclear goo in the college world and it would be like a university hiring Kelvin Sampson as their recruiting coordinator. President should be fired on the spot.

Does the same apply if it's an administrative job, or just coaching?
