Per Rexrode tweets, Crean got upset on the B1G teleconference that Burke was named player of the week.
@JoeRexrode "Crean is steamed that Burke got that award. Asked spokesman to send him criteria for winning it and asked him if winning is a factor."
Kind of stupid to get riled up about it, but hard to disagree with him.
Stupid. Can you fault Burke for his team sucking against us?
he went 7 for 11
I agree... how can he be POW when his team gets blown out of one of the games by 20+ and beats cellar dweller by single digits...
you can't tell me there weren't other candidates......
Crean acts like if his team gets 5 POW awards, he can turn it in for an extra conference win. Who the hell cares?

what a weird thing to be pissed about the day before your team plays a road game for 1st place in the league.
Crean is hilarious. The guy finds really different things to get pissed about. Doubt there's another coach in the leage who would even have brought it up.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
Sounds about right coming from the school that brought you the following:
That's embarrassing for a program of IUs caliber.
Why would you say anything publicly? And who the fuck cares? Player of the week? weeeeeeeeee!! Let scum have this to put in the trophy case with the September Heismans.
Sweet sixteen rings? ROFLMAO.
Crean wasn't 'mad'. Just curious. All the coaches are probably scratching their head over this POW. Makes absolutely no sense.....unless of course, if you're Kenpom or Mr. Law.
Things are about to get much worse for Crean.
Let Crean be more focused on individual awards than team success. I'm okay if this distracts him.

the media infatuation with umaa continues...................................
There are advantages to being located 25 miles and 30 minutes from a major airport. The lazy national media loves it.
Crean asked Big Ten assistant director of communications Dan Mihalik about the criteria for winning the conference’s weekly player of the week award. Crean appeared to be unhappy that Michigan’s Trey Burke was the conference player of the week in a seven-day period where Michigan lost by 23 points to rival Michigan State.
To this point, teams that lose during the week are not normally given consideration for player of the week honors.
“Can you give me the criteria so I can understand this once and for all, what the criteria is for the player of the week?’’ Crean asked. “What are you guys judging that on.’’
Mihalik said he would send it to Crean.
“Where does winning work into it?’’ Crean asked.
Mihalik said it was part of the criteria. Crean said. “OK, that helps me.’’

How can a player on a team that was crushed get player of the week?
Thanks. "Upset" as the OP used is not quite accurate.
Was Hardaway runner up ?
So who does Crean think deserved the award?
how many points did the guy he guarded score? playing basketball is not just about a stat line in the box score.
Easy solution to this problem.
Nameless Michigan State walk-on named B1G Player of the Week after banking in a free throw in the final minute of Michigan States blowout of #4 ranked Michigan in East Lansing.
Because without him they lose by 60.
Answer: When that players school is perceived with high potential to bring in conference network market share and when feeding that school public recognition enhances that school's ability to recruit and therefore enhance its ability to bring in even greater future market share.
His tweet from a half hour ago:
Tom Crean @TomCrean
From the BT teleconfrence, let me be clear. I was not questioning a player. I was questioning the criteria for choosing an award.
35,600 posts and counting since 09-09-2002. tRCMB Dead Pool Commissioner.
they did beat Penn State by 7 at home. That has to count for something.
That's a pretty valid question. Do they strictly look at offensive numbers or do they look at scoring, defense, leadership, winning, etc. In Burke's case, he led his team to a blowout loss and scored 27 and barely beat 0-13 Penn State so clearly he must have been the best player in the B1G this week.
