He is right, um got crushed in the biggest game yet of his career, and then barely squeaked by the worst team in the league at home. 7-11 is a good game, not great. And burke made a major mistake with the foul Appling drew on him, which basically sealed the blowout.
A giant sigh of relief?
He does have a point in this respect, Harris and Zeller did more this week for their teams this week than Burke. Hell Mike Gessell deserves some credit for keeping Iowa's slim tourney hopes alive in their demolition of the Gophers.
Guessing Crean though Sheehey should have won this week.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
And, thus, last week shall forever be cemented in lore as a moral victory for Michigan basketball. They didn't get stomped by their in-state rivals by 23 points, oh no, they just didn't play Michigan basketball after such a hard stretch of games. Besides, MSU just hacked and bullied them all over the court and Burke, that tragic hero, was the only player in the B1G that could possibly be courageous enough to stand up to the evil aggressors from the north.
At least that's how MGoBlerg is probably gonna play this.

IMO it would be one thing if Burke went for over 30 points or had tons of assists and his team still lost. His team got crushed and he put up decent numbers. I don't consider: 18 points and 4 assists, especially in a game where your teams getting destroyed worthy of THAT much praise. It is certainly not that big of a deal but c'mon BT you can't find anyone worthy of POW honors? How about Marble at Iowa or Appling or Harris or Zeller. All put up numbers this last week similar to Burke and all of their teams went undefeated.
Crean is eating sour grapes it feels like. It's a meaningless award and nothing to get riled up over.
B1G just trying to turn his frown upside down after his scary visit to Breslin.
Nah, there is always a hidden message in what good coaches say and do. This is a message to his team. Who won the awards? What games do they have coming up? Who are they against? "Look how we're being disrespected" is the message to his team. I think it's great he did that. He's backing his players, and getting them focused to "show the media" just what they're capable of doing. I think Izzo uses press conferences to send a message to his team all the time. JMO
Another thing to take the spotlight off our win. We win, award them.
Crean doesn't sound very "riled up" from those quotes.
His question is valid. Awarding POW to the leader of a team that got blown out by an underdog rival seems a bit strange.
He may be playing mind games with his team......
"tragic hero" and "hero" mean the same thing over there
exactly my thoughts.
You deserve many upvotes, but that may have been too subtle.
Should have been Harris. My guess is Crean is arguing for Zeller. But either way it is kinda pointless and you would think Crean has bigger fish to fry.
Don't want to be Trey Burke next time umaa plays IU.
POW when they get blown out by MSU and barely beat PSU?
What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...
Just because he asked a question of the Big 10 office in support of his player doesn't mean that he's not "frying bigger fish".
I thought his engaging of the issue was absolutely hilarious. Crean's great. The dude isn't whining, he snarkily calling out the establishment for showing bias. He's trying to keep people honest.
Don't want to be Yogi Ferrell next time scum plays Forks Down. Burke will probably light IU up for 30 win or lose.
"Burke B1G Player of the Week"
Becomes clear front runner for NPOTY after inspiring performances in fluke loss versus Sparty and gutty win over tough Penn State squad.
i'm glad Crean is focusing on a meaningless player of the week award before IU's biggest game of the season
edit: not melting down

Yep. The only other player to earn POW honors in the B1G this year when his team recorded a loss was Hollins of Minnesota. His team was 2-1, losing to Duke, and he dropped 41 on Memphis.
I think Crean is probably looking at the Jan. 21 awards, where THJ won for his 21/5 game against Minnesota. Zeller averaged 22/11.5 in two games, and I'd bet Crean was told it wasn't Zeller because they lost to Wisconsin that week.
This. I'm sure crean is just wondering whats really going on.
If my kid was a better player than another I'd be upset if my kid wasn't getting the national media. And you can't say it is unimportant, because in the end Burke might get some kind of award just because his name comes up so much. Whereas there could have been better players, but you never hear about them.
Don't forget too, Burke had 4 fouls against MSU. Thats not like him and that definitely should have counted for something against his POW standing.
