I just read this article on the Free Press, and have decided, Twitter is a joke. I personally have never participated, and now I know why.
Some serious missiles were fired during this epic Twitter war.
the fact this is posted by poster "Charlie Sheen" made me LOL
I hate to agree with you, but I do. Most of the celebs in there are idiots and a nightmare to follow. I think the only celeb I do follow is Holly Robinson Peete because of her Autism activism, which we do have convos from the views as a parent and as a teacher.
As for everyday people, its even worse.

Wow, she definitely nuked him. And FWIW, I believe him when he says that she tricked him to get pregnant and then have a blank check for money once he went to the NFL. But, to me, that says more about him than anything else. Happens all the time. He should have known this.

Twitter can be a great tool.
I don't follow a single celebrity. I do follow several news and sports outlets/reporters. Imo it's the fastest way to get information. Also great for following events live as they happen.
Yes, because without Twitter, I fully expect LeSean and his baby mama to be a loving family.
It is all Twitter's fault. Twitter is ruining society and breaking up families.
If you follow celebrities, you're asking for stupid shit to be posted on your timeline.
If you follow athletes -- MSU athletes included -- you're asking for stupid shit to be posted on your timeline.
If you follow interesting writers, good parody accounts, trusted new sources, and generally witty/clever/thoughtful people, Twitter is awesome.
My favorite twitter feeds that I've started following recently are sbnation writers like Spencer Hall, Jason Kirk, and Bobby Big Wheel.
I am not saying that, but I am saying with Twitter, the world gets to hear about stuff, previously handled on Jerry Springer.
This. Twitter is all about following interesting people. I follow a bunch of professional/amateur comedians and my Twitter feed is just an endless stream of humor. Great time waster.

people choose to watch jerry springer, and choose to follow trainwreck celebs or athletes on twitter.
you know what you are going to get.
I fail to see how this is, in any way, affects society, let alone ruining it.

I don't disagree. What positives does Twitter add to society? It's nice passing/receiving news and information quicker, but 95% of it is complete trash. There is no value to most of it.
I don't care that Kim Kardashian is in Wichita, Kansas finding her way out of a corn maze or that Joe Nobody hates the New Orleans Pelicans logo. If we were to replace our daily twitter knowledge intake with world news reports, scientific discoveries, etc., we would all benefit immensely.
Society was ruined long before Twitter came along.
Deleting the Twitter account does...... nothing at all to actually address the situation. The same emotions and problems are still out there.
The most disturbing thing about that entire article is that the reporter used the term "baby mama" as normal lexicon.
you do realize you only receive the things you sign up for. if you don't want to hear about kim kardashian... don't follow kim kardashian. if it's what you value, almost every major newspaper, magazine, publication, etc. has a twitter feed on which they post new articles or editorials. many journalists and analysts spend tons of time tweeting analysis of current events. i'm assuming you've never even gone to twitter.com

It's impressive how stupid the twitter haters in this thread sound, if they were on twitter I doubt they could rise above their lack of intelligence and not be part of the problem they are complaining about.
Twitter can be what you want it to be, if it's shit for you, you're probably doing it wrong.
Before Twitter, it was Facebook that was ruining society. Before Facebook, it was MySpace. Before MySpace, it was blogs. Before blogs, it was message boards, discussion forums, and comment sections. Before message boards, discussion forums, and comment sections, it was email. Before email, it was the telephone. Before the telephone, it was the telegraph. Before the telegraph, it was horses. Before horses, it was paper and ink. Before paper and ink, it was stone and rocks. Before stones and rocks, it was fire. Fire is ruining society.
Yeah, all the democratic revolutions in the Middle East think Twitter is ruining society.
Not so sure I agree.
Though the OP might be overstating the point, the concept of Twitter allows a far greater number of morans and knuckleheads to buy into a pure narcissistic view of themselves. There are other culprits too (Facebook is a big one...and even tRCMB for some).
The belief that every thought that one has or emotion that one feels must be instantly broadcast to as many people as possible is pretty sad and pathetic -- AW'ing at its "finest".
Also, it sure seems like Twitter and other social media is only helping to dumb down journalism, but that is for another rant.
"Leave the gun.....take the cannoli"
"It's not your job to be as confused as Nigel."
Twitter is only "ruining society" for the people who do stupid things on twitter like LeSean McCoy. Twitter is actually a really good resource that a lot of people in the business world are turning to. I'll give you an example.
My dad, a 50 year old social media lover, uses twitter for personal as well as business use. He has about 1200 followers. He had a pair of Columbia snow boots for the past 15 years that he would always plow the driveway, etc in. The rubber disintegrated on them and he tweeted @columbiaathleticwear saying they were the best boots he had ever owned, but it was sad to see them go. Five minutes later, columbia direct messaged him on twitter saying "don't give up on us yet, send us some pics of the boots." He sent pics, and minutes later they responded saying that a brand new pair of boots were being sent to him, free of charge.
Twitter is a good way to get connected to not only friends, but people you normally wouldn't have the ability to contact, and is way more efficient in instances like the above example than sitting on a customer service line for hours.

I just recently joined and don't tweet but just follow it for stuff that's breaking news.
What's with people in facebook and twitter stringing together what should be 3 separate sentences in one incoherent ramble? The stupidity makes my head hurt.
Excellent source of news from sources you want to hear from, and a great shortcut as well.
140 letter limit. There is a easy way around it and still sound intelligent that people are too lazy to use....Twitlonger.
