Last night, Dad submitted an offer for a house on Spring Lake. It's a great house, quite large, right on the lake with it's own dock, built in lift, etc.. He'll know tomorrow if his offer is accepted and then he'll work on selling his home in California.
Thanks everyone for your help.

Awesome...if you don't mind sharing, what $ range did he end up at?
Less than 300k! He had several to choose from in that price range as well. Houses are moving slowly there.
Prices in East Lansing and Haslett are more expensive than a comparable house right on Spring Lake. It's just so odd.
Wow! Also really appreciate the thread. What a coincidence. Next week, I and the wife will be in Western Michigan to look at lakefront property to buy for a Summer retreat from Washington DC, and a place that can be handed down from my daughters to their children and so forth. I am concentrating on the Leelaneau County area, just South of Traverse City. Maybe Suttons Bay. My budget is a little more, circa $500,000. Can I get good lakefront or do I need to come up with a a few more K? I want a home or cabin on water.
