As a Browns fan, I would like to see him in Cleveland. He seems like a damn good coach and has good NFL experience.
gotta assume they would hate O'Brien and possibly root against the Eagles?!?!
O'Brien would mean much more to PSU than the Eagles, especially after all of that "i'm in it for the long haul" nonsense.
It would spice up the Eagles/Steelers game for sure.
Its five o'clock somewhere.
Damn straight GM.....they gone: literally. I also agree with Hank: he was PERFECT for that job but as I posted a few days ago, they told him "not to worry about the ncaa'' that it was a legal matter. Well....they were wrong and he will be a VERY nice fit in Cleveland or Philly. I can see a bit of a bidding war developing there. I do NOT know much about Cleveland's owner but if he can come close to matching Lurie's money in Philly I think the Browns would be the better fit. Lurie just treated Reed like dirt on the way out and those fans are INSUFFERABLE IMO.......(don't argue that fact either: those mofo's snoballed and cussed out santa years ago, they are effed in the head
....BTW: my inlaws are PSU grads and they are ALL Steeler fans and so is that side of the state: if he goes to philly they'll IMPLODE...also, this could be a ploy to get more cheddah out of P$U: as we all know by now: they have it!

Most PSU fans are Steelers fans
Good. Keep it coming.
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
I thought I was going to be dead wrong, but maybe not. I initially thought that the exodus of players would happen after this year. I figured the media scrutiny, no bowl, and probably a shitty season would add up to guys wanting to leave. But OBrien did better than I expected. If he leaves, I could see the gates open.
This is naive.
If you win in Cleveland, you're a God.
Hell, Bernie Kosar is a drunk and a fool. A sad individual. Yet he is still treated like a hero in that city for what he accomplished.
There are just some NFL opportunities that are more lucrative than others. Green Bay, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns. These are just some examples.
Football wise, it's not like there's NOTHING to work with in Cleveland. They should have a lot of money to spend and the defense is actually pretty good.
As a Browns fan, I want no part of Bill O'Brien or Chip Kelly. However, I do think it would be funny to see Bill O'Brien do this to Penn State.
Yeah because the 18-22 year old kids on PSU's football team and their fans that had nothing to do with Sandusky should continue to suffer
They chose to go to Ped State.
The fans who complain about being victims in this whole mess? Yeah, I don't feel sorry for them.
I wish I could mosey on over to the PSU 247 board, but I'm banned until the end of time over there.
You realize you're probably talking about 1% of their fan base?
good for you...+1....you know my PSU in laws are GREAT people...but we've all agreed that this topic is banned from family outings and conversation from now on. They are just as bat shit crazy and in denial as the rest of the state, it's hard to fathom.
This is bullshit.. The denial displayed by all of those students right from the start was sickening. Then the administration displayed the same thing, along with complete corruption. Hell, the number of people at PSU that have, for decades, partiticipated in criminal activity and lies and/or deception and coverup ALONE would be more than 1% of the Commonwealth's population. If nothing else, this 99% you describe ought to be a hell of a lot more vocal about the disgusting shit that was covered up there for years..shame on them for putting football above kids in many many instances, including their behavior in the aftermath.
It has run deep for years and they should suffer.. Tough shit.
In summary, I disagree.
There is romance in all of us
You're saying that at least 127K people knew what was going on? Excuse me, 127K people AT PSU.
This is beyond ridiculous. 45K students, over the 43 years since Sandusky started coaching at PSU equals 1 in 4 people knowing about the scandal. Add in staff and faculty and it drops to maybe 1 in 5.
You don't have a coverup with 127000 PEOPLE. The reason this was kept under wraps is because a handful of people know it.
A significant number of PSU fans have acted disgustingly in light of the revelations; but to throw out random numbers, like 1% of the state knew about it is insulting.
Penn State player... @ESPN_BigTen: Wow. Bad sign? RT @DBarnes_18: All u got in this world is your word, once u go back on that I can't respect u and can't shake ur hand
that's fine and dandy young man, but when your balls drop some day you'll realize that when your employer is the FIRST party to go back on their word well............CLEVELAND ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One thing to keep in mind is that the only reason they were able to get of even someone of O'Brien's pedigree was that no one knew the NCAA would be hammering PSU. Now a year later, everyone can see what the sanctions are and most decent candidates will probably look elsewhere.
Oh gimme a break..you're really doing the math? OK, I was responding to the 1% of the fanbase comment. I'd bet it was higher than that. It is a wacked out fanbase, so yeah, I'm just throwing shit at the wall as far as numbers are concerned, but I'm pissed. I don't get how anyone defends them after what we've seen for the last year and a half.
Make no mistake, this stuff was "known" with a wink wink here and a hush hush there for over a fucking decade, by many many people. And we're supposed to believe that it was all magically covered up outside State College? I have friends who have told me stories. The disgusting culture there has been weird for a long time.
I'm also saying that the general attitude and shameful behavior and lack of any remourse shown by a HUGE percentage of the their fanbase, after the whole culture was blown up and exposed, is disgusting.
They put football first for decades, period. It is inexcuseable..and it permeated a lot of the fanbase. That was sort of the point of the sanctions-to purge the old thinking and make them pay.

Good point and this will impact them.
But they are one year into this mess and they know what they are up against....coupled with the fact they can pay a lot to get a new coach (who will be under no pressure for the first three years)....and they still have some brand equity...they will likely get another solid coach.

Most of this post is pure speculation with nothing to back it up
And to say their fans didn't show remorse is inaccurate. There were dozens of prayers and candle light vigils to remember the victims.
You act is if Sandusky ran around campus telling students and fans what he did and nobody did anything to stop him. I'm guessing there were a HANDFUL of people inside the athletic department that knew about it.
Yes, I'm doing the math, because your comment merited it. You want to say a lot of people knew what was going on? Fine - say that. Don't say 1% of people at PSU knew about it, because that's simply irresponsible. Moreover, you still don't get it - you're saying 1% of the fanbase knew what was going on. You're implying that at least 1K people knew, and probably closer 100K. To imply that even 1/10 of 1% of the fanbase knew is insulting to that fanbase. That fanbase doesn't deserve much right now, but to loop them in with Paterno and the administrators as in anyway culpable is disgusting.
Yes, we know that PSU football breeds a cult-like mentality in the valley. And yes, probably more people knew what was going on than came forward. And yes, we've seen their fans act incredibly poorly and self-centered in response to what happened. But I'm sick of people painting a broad stroke saying all PSU fans are nutjobs, or everyone knew what was going on.
There's a big difference between being upset and in denial with punishments that were handed down, and covering up a child sex scandal. The fans are morans for being in denial and being upset; but the vast majority (well over 98% by your shitty math) were in no way culpable, responsible, or knowledgeable for Sandusky raping those boys. That's on Paterno and the administrators.
tl;dr = People at PSU certainly knew about, but to assume that everyone associated with the U or the program knew is irresponsible and ridiculous.
