Based on the responses I have seen in this room I think I would not be alone :)
Sometimes I forget how amazingly douchey OSU fans are...and then I remember.
I think most people here feel the way about your inferior basketball program, so that probably isn't it.

No. He didn't have any interest and wouldn't of because that program is a three mile deep shit hole that you cannot recruit to. There are about three or four other programs in the league that are the same and anything contrary to that statement is not the truth. Zook was the best recruiter that Illinois ever and will ever have. Program had no history (which directly helps recruiting; see Michigan and Ohio State) and there was no way to sustain what decent classes he was getting without success. In addition, you actually have to coach said talent up which Zook did not do. They don't just fly up from the Under Armour Game and become Big Ten first teamers.
List three reasons why Urban wanted to coach at Ohio State and I'll bet the two reasons after "He's from Ohio" are directly related to the recruiting advantage over everyone else in the conference besides Michigan.

I've lectured at business colleges. I've never had any real contact with ROTC programs. However, I did make a few bucks off ROTC guys in my dorm back in the day, putting a shine on their dress uniform shoes before inspections.
I'd love to stay and let you keep trying to get a rise from me, but I've got to finish some stuff tonight.
Your bragging about almost being .500 vs OSU before he even got there. Nicely played.
Athletic mediocrity.. These are the kind of people that think Ohio State's basketball program is on par with MSU's..
+1. Favorite post ITT.
Need to punch out of night shift? Understand
But you certainly don't have one.

Listen, I understand the obvious shit talk necessary for this thread, but I too have met him in person. That, and all 'troll talk' aside, you really feel it's necessary to continue to bash someone who fought for your freedom? Classy dude.
Hey wags, i think he needs to see Izzo's numbers vs the field again.
because he is from Ohio, Ohio State pays more, has better facilities, and a large number of reasons.
and yes, Ohio has some built in advantages for recruiting. Yet it doesn't mean Big 10 teams should just say "well, we're screwed. We just don't have what it takes to be good, so let's accept mediocrity or worse." I can't believe you guys buy into such a loser attitude. Teams don't need to be top 5 like Ohio State, but Purdue, Indiana, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois recruiting is not very good. They should be better, and it should just not be accepted by the conference. It drags everyone down, and it does affect the whole conference.
Are you guys seriously saying recruiting at Purdue, Indiana, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Northwestern is good, even for them? Maybe Northwestern, but outside that do you really think recruiting at those other schools could not be improved? Why not address it and talk about ways in which the conference as a whole can improve recruiting? Everybody here talks about the individual school's problems, but if the conference as a whole it will bring more players to the conference. That will bring more revenue, and more exposure. It will also bring more wins.

I'll be more impressed by your overwhelming athletic superiority when you make the BTCG. Until then, you've got all the moral laxity of the SEC and none of the results.
Good thing the officials took that touchdown off the board for us this year, or it would've been two in a row. That must be grating, considering all those recruiting championships you've been winning lately.
I applaud your being able to put that out there.
I'd also love to have the discussion about what the other 10-11 programs could do to recruit better. However, I do have to run. I'll try to come back tomorrow, because there are things OSU is doing now (under Meyer) they weren't under Tressel that the others could do to improve their recruiting. Maybe they wouldn't be as successful as OSU. However, I suspect they'd do better than they are working the way they are now.
Again, props for putting out a realistic assessment that might be pretty unpopular among some of your board members.
Hey... I have no problem being honest. Izzo is a rock star coach. One of the top B-Ball coaches in the country...if not THE top coach.
I will admit when I see someone who is doing it better in his profession then the vast majority of others. Let's see if you can tell how that relates to the rest of this thread.
Urban Meyer is a very good coach who knows how to choose his jobs. BG to Utah State to FL and now Ohio State.
The ND job was open when he chose Florida. Why? Because Meyer picks jobs like Phil Jackson chose jobs. He turned down ND and took Florida because it was in one of the best states for HS players. We will never know all the reasons he took a hiatus from coaching but taking the OSU job wasn't a reach. HC job at the only Big Ten school in the state with one of the top 2 HS recruiting pools in the conference. PA HS football is strong too.
This is crazy like a fox by Meyer. He's no fool. He knows hyping the OSU/umaa stuff is good for him. It was also slick way to favorably compare OSU to upper division SEC teams.
Trey decommitted after Chizek was fired, Bell, Zeke or Clark were NEVER committed anywhere. Well EE was to us then reconfirmed. How can you poached kids who are not committed? Correction, Urban poached Ezekial Elliot from Ohio State, back o Ohio ST.
We lost Taivon Jacons to Maryland, our punter JohnnynTownsend was poached to UF and Lewis Neal decommitted to LSU.

How is someone working third shift "bashing"??? You need to get some respect for hard workers son. You have zero class. Oh, and until you know something about everyone on this board, you should keep your mouth shut.
Troll talk? Classy? WTF kind of idiot are you??
I see the point you are making, and I don't expect MSU to recruit on the same level as Ohio State.
The sheer level of intensity and countless hours the buckeye staff has put in to assemble this class is absolutely insane though. You say Ohio State recruits itself, to a certain extent, I agree.
Let me ask you a question though. How many times has a poster here said "I saw coach so-n-so at the airport on his way to 'whatever state' today' ?? I ask this because it literally happened more times than I can count on BN this year. This staff was RELENTLESS. They were recruiting every chance they had. Now, I am not saying this would lead MSU to a top 5, or even top 10 class. I am just saying, effort wise, I don't think anyone is on the level of what Urban expects his staff to be on.
It absolutely IS part of that 'SEC' mentality.
On a further note, "poaching", I think Urban says it best. When a kid 'commits' to you, it means you are in his top 3. Ultimately, it is that 17-18 yr old kid's choice on where he feels is best for him. It is not up to the fans, coach, friends.. it is up to him and his family. If a better opportunity presents itself, so be it. We DID have kids offered and teams attempted to 'poach' (in one case successfully) them. It happens, it's part of the recruiting process. Ultimately, aside from Mr. Kiffin, recruiting is the heart of CFB.
Dude, just stop. I don't think comparing Michigan State football success to Ohio State will work out well. You sound like a Michigan basketball fan.
How was OSU recruiting under Tressel?
MSU is recruiting as fine under Dantonio as they have ever been, really. Everyone makes it out as if we are now getting nothing but MAC players. OSU has always led the league in recruiting so I am not sure if things have really changed that much.
Our defense surely doesn't seem to suffer from a talent deficiency and our offense was fine except for this past season.
