I'm sure it's also been said, but there's kind of some talent in states like Florida, Georgia, Texas, Alabama, etc. In the midwest we've got Ohio (shocking that OSU feasts on strong in state), Pennsylvania, and to a lesser extent Jersey.
Why can't these guys understand this?
Nuh uh, it's just that the B1G basketball coaches are working a hell of a lot harder at recruiting than the football coaches.
(yes, that's sarcasm)
The RANT is a Romper Room for Degenerates - jwe
Right on brother. If only the rest of my jackass fan base brethren took the steps that YOUR fanbase took toward becoming an elite recruiting machine would MSU get somewhere. Shit, I can't even imagine how proud you are at snagging all those 4 and 5 stars. I'm doing my best here to help us recruit better but these numbnuts just aren't on board and are far too fat and lazy to get in on the recruiting game.
I'd love to know the recruits Tressel so graciously handed to MSU. But I suspect we'd get that knowledge dropped on us as quickly as the detailed explanation for Kentucky's supposed recruiting superiority.
I just realized it, these guys would love Tanfan. He demands excellence like a gray haired crusty ole son of a bitch.
Want to come over and help me work on my recruiting room this weekend? I need to start tracking the travel habits of assistant coaches and setting up a bank of servers to track 15 year olds on Twitter.
I think you have way too low of a viewpoint on Midwest football. Illinois is one of the best football states. Michigan is top 10. It's not just Ohio and Pennsylvania. They are the flag bearers, but the Midwest is not all Ohio and Pennsylvania.
An OSU staff member vouched for a certain star RB to MSU who is gone after last year.. jussayin.
I came here to have a conversation with educated sparty fans, but its clear those have left the building. Night sparty.

Dude, you are attempting to psychoanalyze someone on a message board. You are just this side of crazy. I thought I had you straightened out with you finally understanding that your jock sniffing the football players wasn't important. I'm a bit disappointed that in the next post you've taken a step back. You're out of your mind bat shit crazy son. Was it the ass whipping your band guys got on the field last year when Michigan beat you? Saw that shit on you tube, that was funny as hell, some of those band kids looked damn scared. Hope you made it out alright. Were your parents there?
Finally, another fan willing to step up. I've already got the 15-year old information bro, but we have to think bigger. I'm working on charting the up-and-coming 12 year olds. When we finish that up, we can stake out Coach D's office and give him a copy of Urban's words; damn motivational stuff. Lastly, we'll take over opposing message boards and spew page after page of nonsense, because that also seems to help get top 10 recruiting classes.
How many times do you need to edit your shitty uneducated post?
Thought you were leaving?
I guess my issue is that you seem to be under the impression that the other Big 10 programs aren't working that hard.
It's not just that tOSU recruits itself; Meyer and his staff put in a TON of work. I don't think he's sitting with his feet up in his office, makes 1 phone call and 5-stars fall out of the trees.
What I am saying is that the same amount of work tOSU's staff puts in would not yield the same results at Illinois or Minnesota. Those staffs could be on the phone day and night, on planes, showing up at recruits front door at 4:30 a.m. ND style (the Ishaq Willliams recruitment . . . I really do follow this stuff) and it would not get them the classes on par with tOSU and maybe not even in the top 25.
Put it to you like this; I think the Ohio State "name" allows the tOSU coach to get his foot in the door with just about any recruit. What he does from there is totally dependent on his hard work and effort; something I think Meyer excels at. When you combine a top name with top recruiters, you get top results.
My problem with the whole "the Big 10 needs to step it up in recruiting" is that it assumes that the other Big 10 teams get their foot in the door close to as often as tOSU's coach. That's simply not the case.
Take Kizer, the 4-star dual threat QB from OH. He's one of 3 QBs nationally that MSU has ID'd as a "Plan A" recruit, the other two being Caleb Henderson and Michael O'Connor. Kizer was quoted last week as saying that he likes his MSU offer, but now wants to see who else is going to offer.
Translation: I think I'm too good to even consider MSU if any sort of more prestigious school offers.
Note:I don't get particularly offended by this: MSU is below tOSU, ND, Nebraska, PSU and UM in program prestige (though PSU's scandal stuff certainly could change that) in the region, and certainly below Bama, LSU, UF, FSU, UGA, TX, OK, USC and Oregon nationally.
Here's the point: No matter how much effort the MSU coaches put in with a kid like Kizer, nothing is going to change his mind that he sees certain schools as "above" MSU.
That's the biggest limitation facing Michigan State's recruiting, and the rest of the Big 10 outside of tOSU/UM. They aren't seen as good enough to get their foot in the door to the point where their coaches' effort can pay off.
As I said earlier, I'm not upset about the whole Pittman thing, or really poaching in general. I just think that it's a bit disingenuous for Meyer to say that the Big 10 needs to step it up in recruiting when he himself has drained some 4-star talent from the other Big 10 programs.
Recruiting in General
I do think recruiting is the heart of CFB. I also think recruiting judged solely by signing day rankings is NOT the heart of CFB.
I absolutely accept that 4-stars do better than 2-stars on a wide-basis, and a 5-star is more likely to make the NFL than a 3-star. A class full of 4- and 5-stars should generally perform better than a class full of 3 and 2- stars.
Where I run into problems with the "recruiting rankings are everything" crowd is the fact that there are so many prospects in a given year, that even if just 50% of 3-stars make it as good contributors at the AQ conference level, there's something like 300+ prospects that can make a difference from the 3-star ranks in every class. On the flip side, there are enough 4-star busts to comprise multiple 20 man classes built SOLELY from 4-star busts.
Think about that. You could quite literally have a team of 3-stars that turns out to be nothing but NFL stud after NFL stud, while another program with nothing but 4-stars that plays like Eastern Michigan.
Now that's the extreme in both cases, but it illustrates that there's enough error room that a program or two can way out or under-perform their respective recruiting rankings quite easily.
Case in point: the 2 teams that were closet to knocking off tOSU this past year were MSU and Purdue. Neither fall into the top 4 in the conference in terms of traditional recruiting. Purdue's raw talent is probably bottom 2.
Just some food for though; I'm going to turn in and no doubt read over all the responses during my morning coffee.
I think the discussion has settled down a bit, and that's good. As I said in one of my earlier War and Peace-style posts, I'm down to discuss how a non-power recruits and how they can improve; I just don't want to read a bunch of cheap shots at a school that's slowly fighting its way back to respectability in the CFB landscape.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
Coming from an OSU fan directed at an MSU fan, this is the most painfully ironic thing in the thread.
BCS started in 1998, right? scum is 2-3 in BCS bowl games. (Beat Bama in Orange in 99, 3 RB losses in the 2000s, beat VT in Sugar) Iowa got ass raped by USC in 2002 in the Orange but beat Ga Tech in 2010. Illinois is 0-2, got ass beat by LSU in Sugar (Kurt Kittner, lol) and by USC in the RB (joke they were there.) Purdue is 0-1 they played in the RB with Brees and lost. PEnn State is 1-1. They beat FSU in the Orange in like 2005 and lost to USC in the Rose in 2009 I think.
Wisky is actually 2-3 in BCS games, they won the RB in 1999 and 2000. The Big Ten actually went 7-1 in RBs from 1993-2000, lone loss NW to USC.
Hes a fat ass flute playing band dork. He's never stepped foot on an athletic field, court, rink etc past sixth grade. Ignore it, he's worthless.
"You have to be pretty athletic to be in the band" LMFAO!!!

I think they left waiting for an educated, rational OSU fan to show up. 25 pages later and we're still stuck with your dumb ass. Do you blame them?
How many white guys are there in your prized recruiting class?
Now wipe that retarded surprised look off your face.
Yea, that must have been it. Must have been OSU helping out. Not Dantonio's direct relationship with his high school principal.
Bell might have never gotten an opportunity to attend Michigan State had his high school principal, Donis Toler Jr., not taken him under his wing just as Donis Toler Sr. once did for Dantonio.
Again... being totally honest...not 100% sure what you are talking about.
Do you mean the football team got beat or the band got beat? Your sentence structure is a bit "off".
I've been out of the OSUMB for several years, so I wasn't out there. I was at the game (in the stands).
My mom was probably at home (Ill ask her if you need that info...I'm sure she watched the game, but not 100% sure where) and my father passed away several years ago...but thanks for asking about them...
That means we are back to being buddies
Just take a look at the top 100. Without counting, easily 70% are southern.
Where do the nation football recruits rank? Check out the player rankings on RecruitingNation.com
Right, because MSU couldn't have landed Bell on their own when he was going to Bowling Green. How fucking stupid are you
I don't see color in humans... I only see self-worth and the ability to improve oneself
Can someone let this guy know that he's just not funny? Either that or I just don't get band geek humor. Look bro, either give us some pointers on how to recruit better or kindly leave the board.
