There is no easy answer to this dilemma... When urban was at Florida everyone at OSU was calling him a liar and cheater, etc... Now that we have actually gotten to know him better we all realize that is just not the case... it is just easier to do the blame game than accept responsibility for your own success or lack there of... Urban Meyer has a degree in psychology and is a very good communicator... the first criteria he uses to evaluate a coach when he is looking to hire someone is not the Xs and Os but can he recruit... he has realized that you can be the best Xs and Os coach in the world but if you don't have the horses then you don't have much chance to win the race...
You understand that OSU has more non-revenue sports than any other school in the B!G? The problem for Wisconsin isn't that but rather they have a way of doing things and they don't feel a need to change. They recruit a bunch of 2 and 3 stars from Wisconsin hoping one of them turns into Abbrederis or JJ Watt. Then they go national and get a few guys if they can. You have to admit Brett mailed in the 2012 and 2013 classes. There's money in the state like Johnson and Johnson, Kohler, Kohls (who has been great for your program) so that's not the problem. I don't know if better assistant coaches/ head coaches would help Wisconsin. There would have to be a cultural change that I know they are not willing to do which isn't necessarily a bad thing for Wisconsin.
I am a Buckeye...proof there is a God in Heaven who loves me.
It's my belief that the Woody attack that caused Denny Stolz to leave was huge in disrupting MSU's winning tradition. Denny was on the right track in bringing the program back with winning years in his last two years here. Woody was nervous that State was on it's way and did whatever he could to shut the Spartan program down. He succeeded. The admin had a plan; it was sabotaged by OSU and extreme stupidity on the part of our own football culture. At least, that's what I remember.
I think of a hero as someone who understands the degree of responsibility that comes with his freedom. -Bob Dylan
44 pages and 1000+ comments on a remark that Urban Meyer made about recruiting....
Come'on people. This thread is pathetic. Some people on here are too obsessed with what OSU and UM are doing.
Not to mention recruiting budgets. UW/MSU/Iowa are all supporting all these non-revenue sports with 70-80k in the stadium. OSU/PSU/UM are getting over 100k. 20k per game x 7 games = 140k x $100/ticket = $14M more to spend on recruiting.
So these schools are fighting a in-state talent deficiency, with less money, and w/o national appeal.
You can't just say "recruit better".
80% of this thread is tOSU posters felating themselves and trolling our own site here....It really is remarkable that it went on for so long considering how the mods claim that visitors need to act like just that, and that trolling will be met with bans. Not in this case.
35,600 posts and counting since 09-09-2002. tRCMB Dead Pool Commissioner.
Make pulling a mod and ban these bucknut turds.
FYI you would probably get caught up in my tidal wave of bannings, but you already know that
Maybe you didn't notice this thread go from 47 pages to 43 . . . .
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
When we had Nick Saban we used to recruit really well. Solid OL, solid D, great players at skill positions etc.
Probably the best recruiting classes we've had and this was right after a few terrible seasons under Perles.
haha this thread lasted way longer than expected and the bucknutters were in full force. I could tell nobody gave a shit about them because everyone went to sleep and just let them jerk one another off.
To die in ann arbor is redundant
You're letting history cloud your memory. Those teams had almost no depth and he took multiple academic risks that wouldn't fly nowadays.

Just saw that. SpartyRocky doin work this morning!
The rcmb will go under before you become a mod.
These Buckeyes seem smart. I wonder if they've seen a certain missing canopy. I bet they have.
So where are all the links that the bucks were talking about? You know where this thread was going national and everyone was laughing at butthurt sparty?
Demetrius underwood, Boo Boo Thompson. When you're recruiting the sanitariums and prison systems they better come with some talent. For every Plaxico Burress there were 5 Marcus waters.
youngblood96/viggo martyr/jargon: tRCMB's answer to Vidkun Quisling and Fred Phelps.
It should have been flushed when it got to 21....Tons of trolling disguised as "discussion"
Jesus effing christ. Seriously, where is poster Jesus Effing Christ when you need him?
Listen, I'll try and break it down very clearly and easily for you.
1) Ohio State football GENERATES MORE MONEY THAN OTHER B1G PROGRAMS (http://www.bizjournals.com/memphis/news/2012/08/29/combined-revenue-of-15-richest-college.html?s=image_gallery) so they have more to spend on recruiting, facilities, head and assistant coaches, etc etc
2) Ohio State has a larger donor base that pumps gobs of money into the program and the hands of players, which can be spent on see #1
3) Ohio State is a college football blue blood, the school basically recruits itself
4) Ohio is a talent rich state, they have tons of five stars in their backyard and they own the state (Wisconsin has minimal talent)
5) ALL PROGRAMS RECRUIT THE BEST TALENT THEY CAN. If you think Bielema or Andersen had a plan to eschew 4 and 5 star guys to instead get 2 and 3 star guys hoping they turned into a 5 star, you're dumb. No other way of explaining it.
6) It's not about working hard. When fatboy was at UW, the assistant coaches were allowed one night a week with their families.
This is not that difficult of a concept to grasp. If you don't get it, you're dense, and a moran, and just dumb.
Man up, work harder, stop whining, butthurt, etc.
have you even read any of it? There have been some interesting discussions on recruiting and revenue and similar topics
Dude, even the sportscasters up here in Wisconsin were saying that his class in 2012 was a result of perceived laziness. That's the BADGER BASE saying that not me. Yes, we generate more but we also spend more. And let's not pretend that the Badgers are poor...they have cash. I never said they should be on par with Ohio State or michigan or LSU. I said that it's a cultural thing and FOR THE RECORD I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing for Wisconsin. Funny though you called me dumb while spelling MORON m-o-r-a-n.
Just to name a few:Plaxico, Mohammed, Coleman, Hawkins, Carter, Burke, Banks, Peterson, Reese, Irvin, Smith, Adams...
That's quite a list.
Lots of butthurt in this obvious troll of a post. Urban generates his own funding, he himself established OSU as a blue-blood, and he has 10 clones that all work just as hard as he does. This has nothing to do with any of the facts you just stated.
