The mystery to me is why you guys even care. A scenario has yet to arise where SOS has hurt Ohio State in the national picture, EVER. If OSU is good, they will get looked at; same for Michigan. This condescending bullshit where you pretend like the lesser schools are holding YOU guys back is hilarious. Talk about putting the cart before the horse; come back to us when you actually compete with the SEC on the big stage or when the conference actually holds you back and then we'll discuss this non-issue.
It might have this year....but wait........ they were effing cheaters so it didn't.
So 1 non-traditional power did it once roughly 30 years ago....and that means every B1G team should be expected to do it all the time now?
Can't argue with that line of thinking.
You obviously didn't study statistics. Or basic English. Or much of anything, really. Seems to be a common theme here among the infiltrators.
The point I was making is that it can be done. I just used one example but there are plenty more.
Right now there are a few B1G programs getting out recruited by MAC schools. Do you find that disturbing? I do.
As for the question on a time that OSU has ever been held back, no I can't think of a time but this year could be it. At year end, if Oregon, Bama and B1G champ go undefeated, can we say with 100% certainty that B1G champ gets the nod over Oregon?
And SOS will definitely impact the B1G champs once playoffs are implemented.
You guys beat MSU by 1 and needed OT to beat UW and Purdue. Stop acting like Alabama. The B1G being any better than it has been is just going to lead to you guys getting pelted off your self claimed pedastal and everyone else loving every minute of it.
Then so be it.
if anything, schools like MSU that are trying to get to the upper echelon (and then stay there) should be more worried about conference SOS than the teams already there.
You continue to fail at basic reading comprehension.
Explain in detail how Kentucky's class is better than MSU's. Go.
other then 2011 - tOSU handles msu every year...please stop thinking that you are now all of a sudden a top tier program. msu always will be average at the very best...your recruiting classes are indicative to this as well...but...hey...dont take Meyers advice & continue settling to be scUM's little sister
Should I point anything out, or just let it go?
No point. Some of the OSU fans here are just trolling. There are a few who are trying to engage in an actual conversation, but most are just trolling.
Doesn't matter how many times you ask - they won't answer. Because doing so truthfully would knock over their house of cards argument.
Check out my screen name and then take another shot at it.
Regardless, I'll respond to this. MSU is becoming a very good program...trending steadily up and routinely in the discussion for the B1G championship. Dantonio has shown himself to be a solid recruiter and an excellent game coach. I'm sure he doesn't want or need some self gratifying bullshit from a piece of shit who's sitting on a gold mine of talent that he can pluck from year in and year out, at a school that has resources and name recognition that is shared by few in college football. So he can kindly fuck off, and I look forward to the day when MSU and UW firmly plant a foot in your ass.

Yet here you are... spending your time here posting. On our board.
This thread BLOWS.
Exactly. They were very fortunate to go 12-0 in a "down year" in what everybody already describes as a weak football conference and now they are an unstoppable force already? It wouldn't surprise me at all to see the come back down to earth a little bit next year.
Was there some directive from the OSU board for OSU posters to copy and paste this statement on the RCMB?
If you hadn't noticed, this thread was perpetuated by a large quantity of OSU posters flaming away. Are MSU fans supposed to refrain from defending themselves? I think about 5 pages of outright flames were deleted from this thread.
The most laughable reoccurring theme in this thread was the constant mantra: "We came here for sensible talk and got attacked!" Rocky gave a good effort to try and have sensible talk, but the most common response was how MSU was out-recruited by Kentucky or that OSU shipped Le'Veon Bell to MSU via OSU private jet. Well, maybe the most laughable was that this thread was the most action the RCMB had ever seen.
You all could at least compliment MSU for taking on the SoS we have in an effort to improve ourselves and the Big Ten, or winning back-to-back bowl games, or facility improvements. I know it isn't a lot from an OSU perspective, but it is something.
Anyway, despite this thread, I usually root for OSU as my ever-burning hatred for UM causes me to like what UM does not like. I enjoyed the Tressel-Dantonio relationship and the fact that Dantonio has a championship ring because of it.
SpartonRocky - I'd like to share my perspective on things with you. I was one of those guys that couldn't stand Urban Meyer before he was our coach. I wanted Luke Fickel to be given a couple of years to show what he could do once he had the reigns in his hands and could hire who he wanted to. There were plenty of 'Urban Crier' quips typed at my computer keyboard. Since he has been here, I have not seen anything from him that makes me think of him as anything but a straight shooter with a drive to win. He will go after your recruits, but he will let you know up front that he will do it.
Tressel was a great recruiter, and he had a great brand to sell. Urban Meyer is on an entirely higher level. The recruiting for a normal Tressel year was to get 15 guys that anyone in the country would have liked to have gotten, and then fill up the rest of the class with die hard Buckeyes, legacy kids, and projects. I would put to you that every one of the guys Meyer recruited this year is a stud in his own right. I don't think one of the kids is a reach. This year we pulled 3 out of the top 10 kids from Texas. Prior to that we had pulled 3 of the top Texas kids over the last 16 years. Next year is really going to be the year that everyone takes a step back and says wtf?!? Next years class is going to be off the charts.
Ohio State sells itself, but so does Meyer. We would not have had near this class without him. I can't remember exactly how many times I saw recruits say that they came to take a look at Ohio State just because of Meyer, but it was a lot. So it is in some part who the coach is. You can bring some guys to the midwest if you have a rock star coach. We need some more superstars in the B1G. Tressel would not have gotten Clark, Wilson, Johnson, or Bell in this class if he was still here. No way.
I have no problem with the way the Spartans have been playing. They bring it on the field and have been one of the few B1G teams to take it to the SEC. I don't even have a problem with the way they are recruiting. You seem to be able to evaluate players that fit you system and get some guys that are underated. You guys always seem to be up for a good game with us. But, it seems like the rest of the B1G is on cruise control. OSU had been just as complacent. We were so cheap when it came to paying out money get get the best assistants.
Well I'll sit back and wait for the drubbing.
That first O really loves America.
Thoughtful and on-topic posts like yours are quite welcome here.
I agree with you that most of the Big10 has been on cruise control for a bit. But you can start to see things change, for MSU at least.
Its often mocked by the scUM trolls, but MSU is starting to recruit nationally. They haven't had much success yet, but it takes time, but the effort is being made there. They are also recruiting guys earlier than ever. So changes are being made.
Now, is Urban and staff more effective and intense with recruiting? Probably, but they also have a better product to sell. As a MSU alum, it hurts to say this, but OSU definitely has more recent success and tradition to sell to recruits. That alone is a huge huge huge advantage. MSU is slowly working to that spot, but its not going to happen overnight.
Things I'd like to see changed for MSU recruiting:
-Every staff member needs to be a top notch recruiter. Its embarrassing that our OC is so inept at recruiting.
-More support and funds from the AD
-More east coast and Illinois recruiting. The Illinois recruiting issues are a result of our OC being terrible at recruiting. Now that Rutgers and Maryland are in the Big10, it should hopefully open up some opportunities to recruit there.
Just my uninformed thoughts and opinions. I'm sure those more educated on the matter will have more meaningful input.
Freedom of speech
Agree. And I would also agree that at first glance Meyer's comments sound arrogant but I really don't think that was his intention at all.
I think what he's getting at are things like, for example, if you want to recruit TX you'd better find out which high school coaches in TX are well connected and hire them (this happens in the SEC fyi, think Gus Malzahn), or find a TX college position coach and pay 'em enough to join your staff. This is a far better option than taking your Midwest guy and assigning him to recruit TX, or skipping the recruiting hotbed of TX altogether.
If Minny has a staff filled with guys who are good at teaching their position players but are only good at recruiting the state Minnesota, it should come as no surprise when they get nowhere with out of state recruits.
You can stay...
