Very interesting John Beilein stat

  • Coming into this season, Beilein had a losing record in B1G conference games.

Beilein was able to get above .500 for his career in B1G play early in the season, but after the Beatdown at the Breslin, he dropped back to .500. Since then, his team has won twice, and lost once. So, if MSU wins in Ann Arbor, Beilein will again drop back to .500. Assuming that UM doesn't sweep Purdue and IU, he would then be back to a losing career record in conference play.

There can't be many coaches who have broken through the .500 mark, only to fall back down, let alone do it multiple times. Assuming UM loses to MSU and IU, and beats Purdue, he'll be 1 game below .500 for his career. Depending on how the B1G schedule lays out next year, he could once again get to .500 (or better), only to fall back below yet again.

FWIW, Tom Izzo has never gone below .500 in conference play.

(* Stats taken from a blog post I saw earlier in the year when Beilein first achieved the milestone of .500 play)
