I could argue that in basketball the big ten is actually quicker. Watch the way a B1G defense closes and recovers on D compared to other conferences.
while the article has a general dickish air about it, it does admit that we are the number 1 conference. Big ten scoring always goes up in the NCAA Tourney...so i would argue that a lot of this comes from the fact that we play D.

Your average UofM fan and I have something in common, neither of us went to UofM. Though we do share One major difference, I got Accepted.
Funny all of our local HS's scoring records were set back in the 70's without a 3 point line.
The comment about the size and the strength of the players are true. The players in Magic's era were beanpoles compared to the teams today. Shooting skills have decreased, but the size, speed and strength of the defenders has increased.
Way to use MSU / OSU as the poster children for the conference's slow play and stalling. That is called defense. Michigan/Wisconsin are the intentionally slow teams that drag the rest of the conference's numbers down.
Interesting that they surmise that Bobby Knight might be the culprit.
I seem to remember the opening minutes of the MSU/IU game this week being a gosh darn track meet.

"The Big Ten just doesn't have the 6-foot-6 athletic NBA player," Dakich said. "Those are the guys in modern day basketball that really score."
Remember 2009 tourney? Everyone dogged on MSU for being slow lumbering team from the boring Big Ten.
Then they ran the court against Kansas, Louisville, and Connecticut.
Let them keep thinking that stuff.
My Whiskey Blog
Lost me at 'leisurely dribbling." Appling and Craft will not allow for any leisurely breathing, let alone dribbling.
It's been said before, but I never get how people cum in their pants over good defense in other sports, but a good defensive performance in basketball = boring, bad game, etc.
So when Alabama and LSU play a low scoring football game, is it because the players are slow ?

Dakich has officially worn out his welcome. Saying Delvon "quit the team" was the absolute last straw.
And the B1G scouts. Read this in conjunction with the contender comments article on SI.com that is posted in another thread. You'll see why point totals are lower.
Interesting that this article doesn't go into shooting % stats.
The author seemed to contradict himself throughout. It was like he knew what he was saying was a farce but couldn't convince himself to stop.
I also recall us being called slow a few years back, then we ran UConn out of the gym.
Wait, what? When did he say that?
Sparty is our mascot, we are Spartans.
Dan Dakich @dandakich
“@spartychemist: @dandakich can you give a shutout to NCAA to let delvon roe suit up for senior night against OSU”..he quit the team
I just pulled up this hack's twitter feed. God, what a tool.
I found it interesting that the author implies Johnny Orr is still alive. Who knew?
Part of the reason is that officials let defenders dry fuck the shit out of guys when they drive to the hoop in league games for some reason.
I am gravely disappointed. Again you have made me unleash my dogs of war.
I actually think this reputation has died down a little in the past few years. Not sure if MSU's back-to-back Final Fours had an impact on that. I honestly think that any lingering sense that the Big Ten is slow is because of Wisconsin's high-profile shitfests. Not that MSU/Illinois did the conference any favors this year either.
There is one player in the top 40 scorers in the NBA that is 6'6", that is Kobe at the top spot.
Whoa...fuck that guy.
Does this guy even know what tempo-free stats are? He cites kenpom.com and never bothers to look at the numbers. Most B1G teams are very efficient on offense. It has everything to do with the Wisconsins and Michigans of the B1G grinding out the shot clock and not even trying for an offensive rebound (and thus sending five guys back immediately on defense) for fear of getting run out of the gym.
If everyone played at State's pace, nobody would notice the lack of B1G offense, but at the same time Wisconsin and their ilk would likely finish under .500 every year.
I know, right?
Excellent point. SEC football with no scoring = great athletic defense. B10 basketball with low scoring = lack of athleticism.
