You might find that to not be the case. Black dress shoes with gray jeans can actually look pretty good and class up your appearance considerably. In lieu of Sambas.

Do yourself a favor, by a copy of GQ or Esquire and read it cover to cover with a heavy concentration on the pictures. You have much to learn about fashion. With charcoal pants wear either black or cordavan colored shoes and belt. Brown shoes and brown belt with dark colored pants or suit are a fashion no no.

"I think the world is run by C students"
Wait, so you're going with brown belt, charcoal pants, brown shoes, and probably brown socks? What color shirt are you wearing? This could be good. I want pics of Mel's reaction to this getup, too.
White socks go with everything.
Whoa...a color palatte train wreck. Like I said before, ditch the jeans for some sort of brown pants, otherwise this will be the question you hear all day:

"It's not your job to be as confused as Nigel."
I went with a pair of cordovan boots, and it looked great.
Now an easier question, I assume that black socks are ok with dark blue jeans with dark brown or cordovan shoes. I'd prefer to go with a dark navy socks, but it seems like black socks work just fine in this situation too.

Why do you keep trying to wear every combination of black/brown/grey/navy?
I just don't think that dark blue denim, dark brown shoes, with black socks is pushing the boundaries of fashion.
If your denim pants fit correctly, really nobody should see your socks
If you're sitting and cross one of your legs over the other, you'll almost always see socks.
I never wear black socks with brown shoes and/or blue jeans
