Yes... and those people are not rich.
Uh...nobody is claiming $70k is "rich". $250k is. Try to keep up.
Guinness makes you drop mud.
Yea, those calculators are pretty nuts. $250K in NYC is = to $131K in Chicago.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
that is just a scale that shows you the percentage of people that you are better than.
I guess my point that wasn't very clear is that 250 may not really be that "rich" if you live someplace where rents can easily be in the 4-5k range for the space you need for a family in an area good for a family. Is it hard? Probably not but you're not Jay-Z either.
I'm equating upper middle class to a very good, comfortable lifestyle with restrictions. Once you start throwing around the rich or wealthy terms, I think it implies that these people generally have no restrictions on their expenditures. As mudjin stated, my family frequently goes on vacations at the mid level accommodation point. We're not running around in suites and yachts and that's for a HHI in the high six figures. I have friends that fly private every time they fly to palm beach or the hamptons and have homes in both. That's rich.
I can't speak to the accuracy of the calculator... I'm not a demographer or economics. I figured if I found two different ones essentially saying the same thing that would make it more legit.
Gotcha. I guess I was just responding to people who say, "I live XYZ and with $250 I'd be making it rain constantly, how can you say $250 might not be totally enough" Well here's how...
Well there's your problem. You don't have to make Jay-Z money to be rich. If you choose to pay $5k/month in rent that's on you. There are always alternatives. $250k is rich. It's ok. There's no shame in it.
Quoted the wrong person. Me and you are on the same page. I'm debating with the people that say if you're not middle class, you're rich. There's a lot of in between.
It's just a different scale of rich. Kinda like lower-middle, middle, & upper-middle. You can have rich, filthy rich, & obscenely rich.
Rich is another name for upper class. If you're not in the lower or middle class, then you're in the upper class. Upper class is not the 1%, but the 1% is part of the upper class. Get it?
hahaha I thought so but wasn't sure if I misunderstood.
Speaking of rich a buddy of mine got an offer from WIlliams and Connolly downtown and told me what they start their associates at. Based on that figure there have got to be some disgustingly rich assholes in that building.

$250k a year is absolutely nowhere near "rich". Period, the end. This is not a semantics discussion, either. That is solidly entrenched in upper middle class.

Just because you don't have "fuck you money" doesn't mean you aren't rich compared to 95% of the population. It might not be "rich" by your standard, but it's sure as shit not "upper middle class."

To the people saying that 250k a year, isn't rich.....

Nope. If you really think $250k is rich, you have no clue what real money is.
When I graduated law school it was 180. What are they up to now? Is this the Yale kid you've mentioned before? Doesn't get much better than Williams and Connolly if you're not clerking for the Supreme Court or one of the circuits.
Absolute bullshit. $250k is upper class. You might not consider it "rich," but it's not middle class. Not even in the slightest.
I think less than a million/yr is upper middle class.
Same here. People who are worth less than several million liquid lack a fundamental understanding of the world that is opened up to them beyond that - and how insanely difficult it is to get there.
We just have a different definition of rich. IIRC, you're also the guy who has trouble distinguishing between small, mid-size, & full-size luxury cars too.
No, it's upper middle class. Rich people do things like influence elections for major offices and try to change public policy.
Rich people treat people who make $250k a year the same way they do a bum on the street.
Yeah it is. He said its up to about 200. (recession hit hard....)
He's clerking for a federal court of appeals judge before doing that. Nice gig if you can get it I guess.
